Some of the campiest WB teen soaps have taken inspiration from classic films, and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is no exception. The characters in this supernatural high school series rival the complexity of great cinematic figures from the films of acclaimed directors, and it's no accident — some of them were inspired by those very sources. In fact, one of Stanley Kubrick's most famous and terrifying films, "The Shining," had a big influence on one of the most formidable villains in "Buffy."
Jack Nicholson's leading performance in the 1980 psycho-thriller is not among the 12 in his career to bring him Academy Award recognition, and yet it remains one of his most celebrated. His role as the violent off-season inn-keeper of a remote haunted hotel has provided source material for a great many writers and actors alike, including Clare Kramer, who played the hell god Glorificus in "Buffy."

Writers who have worked with Joss Whedon have begun speaking out about their experience with the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” creator in light of Charisma Carpenter’s allegations earlier this week.
“‘Casually cruel’ is a perfect way of describing Joss,” “Firefly” writer Jose Molina wrote in a tweet Friday evening, adding the #IStandWithCharisma hashtag. “He thought being mean was funny. Making female writers cry during a notes session was especially hysterical. He actually liked to boast about the time he made one writer cry twice in one meeting.”
Molina, who went on to work on shows including “Agent Carter” and “Sleepy Hollow,” is credited with two episodes of the short-lived, cult-favorite Whedon series.
Marti Noxon, who served as showrunner on “Buffy” for its final two seasons, voiced support for Carpenter and the other actresses who have spoken out against Whedon.

Actress Eliza Dushku is the latest “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” alum to come out in support of her former co-star Charisma Carpenter, who on Wednesday accused the show’s creator Joss Whedon of “hostile and toxic” behavior on the sets of “Buffy” and its spinoff series “Angel.”
“Cc, my heart aches for you and I am so sorry you have held this for so long. Your post was powerful, painful, and painted a picture we’ll collectively never un-see or un-know. Thank you. I hadn’t known it and I won’t forget it,” Dushku said in a post to Instagram.

Charisma Carpenter accused “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel” creator Joss Whedon Wednesday of “hostile and toxic” behavior on the sets of the late ’90s and early ’00s WB television series.
In a lengthy statement tweeted by the actress, who played Cordelia Chase on both “Buffy” and its spinoff “Angel,” accused Whedon of “retaliatory” and “cruel” behavior while she was pregnant on the set of “Angel,” and said she supports “Justice League” star Ray Fisher’s claims against Whedon.
Carpenter also said she was part of WarnerMedia’s investigation into Whedon’s actions on the set of “Justice League,” following Fisher’s accusations of “gross, abusive, unprofessional” behavior against Whedon, who took over reshoots on the film when original director Zack Snyder had to exit due to a family tragedy.

Mark Ruffalo has confirmed that there have been talks about his Bruce Banner/Hulk showing up in Disney+’s upcoming She-Hulk show.
The actor dropped the info during a panel at C2E2 over the weekend, where he was on hand to chat about all things Marvel with host Clare Kramer, who you may remember as the evil, mind-warping god Glory from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, among other things.
LaughingPlace.com was present as Ruffalo sat down to answer some pressing questions, and he mulled how he was feeling about where we left Bruce in the closing scenes of Avengers: Endgame. The death of Iron Man in last year’s Avengers: Endgame was a big moment for the McU that left Marvel fans misty-eyed around the world, so it’s no surprise to hear that the loss of Tony Stark also came as a blow to Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo.
During a recent panel at C2E2 in Chicago, Ruffalo was asked who he thought delivered the best superhero performance, and after a bit of joking around with moderator Clare Kramer, the McU regular ultimately settled on his co-star Robert Downey Jr., saying:
“Robert. Robert’s my hero. His Iron Man is like definitive and he started all this. I always marvel at him when I’m working with him, so… I mean, he’s done it the longest and done it with the most class and grace and generosity so yeah, I’d say Robert and when he died, that broke me.

Though the future of the McU’s Hulk remains uncertain, Mark Ruffalo still has a few ideas for upcoming releases, one of which involves a fan-pleasing clash between two of the Marvel brand’s biggest stars.

As you likely recall, Bruce Banner made the transformation into Professor Hulk, aka Smart Hulk, during the five-year time jump near the beginning of Avengers: Endgame, essentially resolving the hero’s internal battle with the Jade Giant offscreen.
When Kramer asked about the possibility of actually showing the emergence of Professor Hulk in a future film, Ruffalo seemed all for it, before quickly slipping in his suggestion for a Hulk vs. Wolverine showdown:

It’s been 20 years since Angel was on television and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff garnered a very loyal cult following. Since it has been two decades, it’s about time that we revisit the lovelorn vampire, right? David Boreanaz thinks so too.
The actor appeared on The Talk Tuesday and when asked about the show he teased that one of TV’s favorite vampires will be returning.
“We’re coming up on 20 years. I mean, that’s amazing to have been blessed with a show like that and that’s where I really started my gig — this acting world,” said Boreanaz.
“I love that character,” Boreanaz added. “So, I will say there may be something coming up. I don’t want to give away much. I can say, it’s 20 years coming up this fall and we may have something in the works.”

Joss Whedon fans were left stunned this summer when it was announced that the Avengers director was rebooting his seminal supernatural TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with Whedon exec producing and Monica Owusu-Breen on showrunning duties. We don’t know much about the new series’ approach to the original material just yet, but it’s said that the central Slayer will be African-American.
The idea of resurrecting a beloved show like Buffy obviously didn’t go down well with a lot of people, but stars of the original have since come forward to support the reboot and to wish Whedon and his team all the best. GeekNation — a digital destination launched in 2012 that serves as a hub for geeks and pop culture fanatics — is branching out into publishing by partnering with writer Lani Sarem to launch her debut novel Handbook for Mortals. It's the first of a planned young adult series that the company plans to translate into a feature film franchise.
Sarem's Handbook centers on a heroine with a gift for magic as she journeys "from small town Southern life to big-time Vegas show life," according to a release announcing the news. GeekNation, founded by actress-turned-producer Clare Kramer and producer husband...

Jason from Mnpp here - I think we can get away with some more Buffy love this week, right? It's 20th anniversary might have been a whole several days ago but seeing as how we made it to 20 years and the internet still cared, and cared deeply (I can't be alone in having had my timeline entirely flooded with Sunnydale Fever), what's a few days?
Thing is we have devoted more "Beauty vs Beast" competitions to the show than any other single piece of entertainment - we've already asked you to choose between Spike & Angel and then also to choose between Faith & Buffy herself. But if there's one thing the Buffyverse isn't lacking - besides quips, chokers, and Xander Harris in a speedo - it's an endless supply of loveable mooks from which to love. So I went with my two favorite villains - Mayor Wilkins (Harry Groener) from Season...

Grrr arggg! Into every generation an excellent TV show is born: One show in all the world. The Chosen One.
It’s been 20 years since Buffy Summers, Mr. Pointy, The Bronze, and Giles’ always-smudged spectacles graced our small screens, and the world has never been the same (mostly because she saved it… a lot).
There were plenty of quips (“Out. For. A. Walk. B**ch.”), tears (Spike’s undying devotion, sob), and frights (bunnies, plus demons and stuff), but Buffy the Vampire Slayer was so much more than that.
The Joss Whedon masterpiece created several feminist icons, spoke to addiction struggles, portrayed the first lesbian sex scene on broadcast television, showed that vampires were sexy long before Twilight and made it ok to wear pink leather pants in public… well, sort of.
Whether you were Team Angel, Team Spike or kind of just wanted Giles and Joyce to get together, the show had...

For many horror fans October is like Christmas come early, a chance to celebrate the macabre and scary. Many also have their favourite films that they watch every year without fail, and this year they have a new one: Tales of Halloween.
Even before watching Tales of Halloween, all you need to do is to look at the cast, directors and writers to see that this is special. Bringing together some of the more renown names of the genre, in one film, makes this movie something we’ve not seen in the genre in a while… an event movie!

15 years ago today, the Toros stepped out onto the football field and put some serious cheer back into the atmosphere. To steal a phrase from the film: Bring It On's the poo - so take a big whiff.
But what have Kirsten Dunst, Eliza Dushku and the rest of the squad been cheering about since then? To mark the movie's birthday, we put down the pompoms and find out what they've been up to since.
Kirsten Dunst
A Hollywood star from the age of 12 thanks to her breakthrough role in Interview with the Vampire, Dunst's star was burning brightly when she led the Toros as Torrance Shipman. Two years later, she went on to land her biggest role as Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi's three Spider-man films.
In recent years, she's reinvented herself as a critical darling, winning Best Actress at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival for Melancholia,...

June, starring Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers) and Kennedy Brice (The Walking Dead), tells the story of nine-year-old June (Brice), who has been shuffled in and out of foster homes for years. Though she tries to be good, no matter where she goes a trail of chaos and terror seems to follow.

(Cbr) On a rainy Friday afternoon at the 2014 Emerald City Comicon, fans crowded the Grand Ballroom of the Seattle Convention Center to express their love of Faith – which, in this case, refers to actress Eliza Dushku’s former character on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” At a panel moderated by another “Buffy” alumnus – actress Clare Kramer (a.k.a. Glory) – Dushku discussed her career, present endeavors and plans for the future. She also took time to answer some questions from the "Faith-ful." One of Dushku’s earliest roles was that of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s daughter in the James Cameron film “True Lies.” She indicated that this was where she discovered her love of “physical” roles. Even though she cracked her ribs while performing the infamous “Harrier Jet Scene,” Dushku realized she enjoyed this type of acting, much to her mother’s dismay. Her big break on “Buffy” came right as she was finishing high school.

Here at Dread Central we recognize that indie filmmakers are the lifeblood of the horror genre, and as a result we try to cover as much of them and their projects as possible. Back in 2009 director Jeremy Kasten came to us to let us know about his latest project, The Dead Ones. Now it's time to spread the word.
Sarah Harper, Brandon Wilson, Katie Foster, Torey Garza, Clare Kramer, and Muse Watson star in the film directed by Kasten from a script by Zach Chassler.
"Filmmaking is tough, dirty, hard, and mean--as well as other words that sound like they were ripped from the covers of 1960s pulp novels," writes Kasten. "It is also, in its purest form, a thrill. Because you risk everything doing something you love. And in entertaining people you hope, in some way, to change the world."
"Although an intensely personal, totally independent film, this is...

Although my three days as a glorified extra on the set of Big Ass Spider! were indeed grueling and it turns out I'm onscreen for just a blink-and-you'll-miss-it blip, it was fun. I just love being on set. Not only that, on Big Ass Spider! I was among friends.
My roommates were also extras (Andrew Kasch is Cocoon Victim #1 – below is a picture of us, snapped by Buz Wallick… not to mention Andrew’s cat, Frodo, getting more screen time than either of us).
I'd met the hero of whole shebang, Greg Grunberg, a number of times from the interview circuit when I worked for the Syfy Channel and covered "Heroes" endlessly. I made a new Bff in Lombardo Boyar, who is, in the film, my savior. So, in spite of driving the dreaded 405 freeway home each evening in peak traffic, covered in syrup and caked with dirt, every day was pure fun.

You never know what you're gonna find in Walmart. Among all the chicks with Wolverine-like sideburns and Nascar jackets, our own Foywonder came across the Blu-ray for Mike Mendez's latest flick, Big Ass Spider! (review), and noticed a pretty interesting (and senseless) change to it.
Apparently the retail chain (a.k.a. the 7th circle of hell) has taken issue with the word "Ass" in the film's title and changed the cover art via a family-friendly(!) graffiti font to read BigGEST Spider!. However, they did add the film's correct moniker under their bastardized title hackjob anyway.
This leads us to only one possible conclusion - Walmart fears the usage of Mike Mendez's ass. What we wouldn't do to see that written on an employee picket sign the next time the chain treats its workers like crap and they decide to strike! Say It Loud!
If that isn't enough,...
