The perils and plights of adolescence have long been a source of fascination for television audiences. That’s particularly apparent nowadays with Netflix, HBO, Hulu, Showtime, FX, and others vying for zeitgeist dominance with teen-focused dramas playing to a variety of creative strengths. As narratives have gotten more sophisticated overall across the TV landscape, it makes sense that the ways in which we look at stories about young people have also evolved. From “Never Have I Ever” to “Yellowjackets,” TV teens in 2023 are among some of the most rich ever written.

Back in 1998, the world saw the first season of That '70s Show, the Fox sitcom that became definitive for the whole generation of back-then teens. Following the tricky lives of a group of six teenage friends of the fictional Point Place, Wisconsin, it attracted millions of viewers until it concluded with the eighth season in 2008.
The sitcom was so successful that its showrunners came up with the idea of the sequel That '90s Show, 10 episodes of which were released on Netflix last January, focusing on the children of the original characters. Thus, the main characters of the follow-up were Leia Forman, the daughter of Eric and Donna, and Jay Kelso, Michael and Jackie’s son.
The parents’ actors reprised their iconic roles, making small appearances in the show. When That '90s Show was renewed for a second season, fans started to hope they will see their favorite characters one more time,...

The Church of Scientology has been accused of trying to “derail” actor Danny Masterson’s rape trials, according to legal documents filed in December 2023 and obtained by TheWrap. He was convicted in those trials for raping two women in 2001 and 2003 whom he had met through the church.
Masterson’s rape victims filed legal documents in December 2023, obtained by TheWrap, claiming the church launched a “campaign of harassment and intimidation directed at one of the prosecutors assigned to Defendant Masterson’s trial” in an effort to “derail Masterson’s criminal trial” as well as his second criminal trial.
The prosecutor’s name wasn’t revealed in the document, though the charges do match similar ones discussed in a speech by L.A. County Deputy District Attorney Reinhold Mueller last year, according to the Los Angeles Times, which also reports that a spokesperson for the church has denied the claims.

Leah Remini’s defamation and harassment suit against the Church of Scientology is far from dead, but it’s constitutionally wounded.
In a March 12 split final ruling from Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Randolph Hammock (read it here), the David Miscavige-led organization has prevailed on getting significant portions of the ex-Scientologist’s action stricken on First Amendment grounds. However, parts of Remini’s harassment claims, “allegations of surveillance” and the tortious inference claim remain in the case going forward.
Having issued a tentative ruling on these matters weeks ago, and overseen hearings in Dta on January 16 and February 6, Judge Hammock’s final ruling doesn’t really contain anything anyone in the case didn’t know what coming. Still, even with an October 27, 2025, trial start date on the books right now, it would be foolish to say that Remini hasn’t suffered a setback from Scientology’s successful use of...

Nickelodeon dialogue and acting coach Brian Peck got into many controversies after he was arrested back in 2003 on 11 charges of s-xual abuse on a minor. While this minor was unnamed before, it recently came to light that the one abused was actually none other than the American actor cum musician, Drake Bell.

Well, here’s a post that should come as no surprise to Tom Sandoval’s PR team, or the public relations folks at Bravo, or even Vanderpump Rules executive producer Alex Baskin: The widely reviled reality star went ahead and tossed out a half-baked comparison between the media attention garnered by “Scandoval” with that of the O.J. Simpson trial or the police murder of George Floyd in The New York Times.

It’s apology time.
Tom Sandoval, star of Vanderpump Rules, was the subject of a nearly 7,000 word profile in The New York Times, where he compared his recent cheating scandal to George Floyd and O.J. Simpson.
He has now apologized.
“My intentions behind the comments I made in New York Times Magazine were to explain the level of national media attention my affair received. The comparison was inappropriate and ignorant. I’m incredibly sorry and embarrassed,” Sandoval said.
When asked why Scandoval – which kicked off during the Bravo series during the end of last season – had got so big, Sandoval said, “I’m not a pop-culture historian really but I witnessed the O.J. Simpson thing and George Floyd and all these big things, which is really weird to compare this to that, I think, but do you think in a weird way it’s a little bit the same?...

Update, 8:30 Pm: After a very brief turn in Charles Manson’s old prison, Danny Masterson has another new home behind bars.
Serving out the opening months of a 30-year sentence, the convicted rapist has been moved to the cushier digs of California’s Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo. Unlike the harsher conditions and even harsher residents at the Golden State’s high security Corcoran State Prison, where the Helter Skelter leader spent his last two decades before dying in late 2017, the Men’s Colony is a medium and minimum-security facility.
Concerns for “the inmate’s well-being” begot the 47-year-old That 70s Show actor’s move in the last week or so, according to a law enforcement source. In custody since being found guilty on May 31, 2023 of two rapes in his second trial and held in Dtla and then North Kern State Prison, Masterson was moved to Corcoran...

An anti-Scientology protest erupted Saturday night outside a Franklin Village restaurant where convicted rapist Danny Masterson allegedly took one of his victims before assaulting her.
The Daily Mail reported demonstrators gathered outside La Poubelle Bistro and Bar on Franklin Avenue and urged patrons to steer clear of the eatery. The restaurant’s owner, Francoise Koster, wrote a letter defending Masterson’s character amid his rape trial. The restaurant is directly across the street from Scientology’s massive Celebrity Centre.
Masterson was handed a sentence of 30 years after he was convicted of raping two women, one of whom he allegedly drugged at the restaurant before taking her to his Hollywood Hills home.
Police have been stationed near the restaurant in the aftermath of the trial.

Danny Masterson, the former star of the TV series That 70’s Show, has been denied bail over concerns the actor would attempt to flee the country.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlaine Olmedo said she denied Masterson bail mainly because of he is a flight risk.
“If defendant’s conviction and sentence are upheld on appeal, he will likely remain in custody for decades and perhaps the rest of his life,” Olmedo said. “In light of the fact that defendant has no wife to go home to, defendant now has every incentive to flee and little reason to return to state prison to serve out the remainder of his lengthy sentence should his appeal be unsuccessful.”

A judge for the Los Angeles Superior Court has denied “That ’70s Show” star Danny Masterson bail pending appeal, stating the former actor has “every incentive to flee.”

(Editor’s Note – this story has been updated to reflect more information that has been presented about Leah Remini’s name on anti-Scientology websites) The Church of Scientology should be labelled a “criminal enterprise” due to its “pattern of racketeering activity,” say the plaintiffs in the civil harassment case against the David Miscavige-led organization and Danny Masterson. With three more rape claims against the incarcerated That 70s Show actor in a proposed second amended complaint, the accusers want the LA courts to allow mafia-inspired Rico charges to be included in the case now.
At almost the same time, in another lawsuit, the Church seems to have put forth weak evidence for its own argument that the one of the main reasons it harshly criticizes Leah Remini is because the former Scientologist has long been “inspiring violence” against Scientology and its leadership.

Taryn Manning’s audition for the Britney Spears starrer Crossroads was so good it made director Tamra Davis nervous.
“She was picking something on her arm, and it looked like it might start bleeding,” recalls Davis of a casting session for the 2002 road trip drama, written by soon-to-be TV mogul Shonda Rhimes. “I thought ‘Oh my, she’s too much, this girl.’ But at the same time, she was the girl.”
Manning was vying for the role of Mimi, a trailer park teen with dreams of moving to Los Angeles to make it as a singer. Manning so nailed the mannerisms and soul of a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who longed for stardom that Davis also felt confused. “I remember quietly telling [casting directors Kim Davis-Wagner and Justine Arteta] that while she was amazing, I needed a real actress. The judge who oversaw Danny Masterson’s rape conviction is demanding answers regarding what happened to nine firearms the “That ’70s Show” actor was supposed to surrender.
Masterson was convicted in May of raping two women and sentenced to 30 years to life in prison. Long before his trials began, Judge Charlaine Olmedo ordered him to relinquish his collection of 10 guns – but are still unaccounted-for.
Masterson’s lawyer told a judge Monday morning that one gun was destroyed years ago, while the whereabouts of the others are uncertain, legal affairs reporter Meghann Cuniff reported. The former Law and Crime and Orange County Register reporter tweeted news and quotes from court, where Kate Mangels was representing the actor.
“I can represent that they’re not in his possession, custody or control and have not been since prior to the 2020 order,” Mangels said. “In 2020, Mr. Masterson surrendered all firearms in his possession to...

Hanging out down the street, you could find the cast of That ’70s Show, Fox’s go-to sitcom from 1998-2006. Lasting eight seasons and even 200 episodes, That ’70s Show had an ensemble that found a charismatic group of characters in the Wisconsin burbs and making the most out of that basement. Making its debut on Fox in the fall of 1998, the show quickly became a cultural phenomenon. It made superstars out of much of its young cast, including Ashton Kutcher, Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Danny Masterson, Wilmer Valderrama, and even the adult leads, Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith (with Red Foreman a far cry from this role in Robocop).

Danny Masterson’s “grapes and wine” farm is the primary source of his income, which is still considered “stable” despite monthly lawyer bills, credit card payments and a mortgage, according to a document prepared by his parole officer.
The “That ’70s Show” star was convicted of raping two women and sentenced earlier this month to 30 years to life in prison by a Los Angeles judge. Before that hearing, his interim probation officer prepared a document recommending state prison that included the details about his life and finances that was obtained by journalist Meghan Cuniff and published Wednesday on the Scientology blog Underground Bunker.
“The defendant reported he is an actor and producer,” the document reads. “He related he began acting and modeling at age four. However, he noted he last worked as an actor/producer in 2018. He added he started a farm in 2018 and continues to earn income from the farm.

Danny Masterson and the Church of Scientology will come before the court in September 2025 – two full years from now – to face a civil lawsuit filed by three victims who say the organization viciously harassed them for reporting the “That ’70s Show” to authorities and ultimately leaving the church.
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge on Tuesday lifted a stay on the civil case that was in place until the criminal trials played out, and set the September 22, 2025 start date. Masterson was convicted of raping two women and sentenced earlier this month to two successive 15-year sentences.
The Jane Does, all former church members, originally filed their civil complaint in 2019, seeking unspecified damages for what they say was a harrowing and cruel harassment campaign. Each described incidents of stalking, surveillance, vandalism to their cars and property, and even the poisoning of pets.

That 70s Show was a popular young-adult sitcom that ran from 1998 to 2006. The show starred Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, and Topher Grace, among other actors, and followed the lives of teenagers who spent a little too much time in their parents’ basement.
Lisa Robin Kelly played Eric Foreman’s older sister, Laurie Foreman. However, Kelly only spent the first three seasons on the show before she left; she reappeared briefly but was later replaced with another actor for a guest appearance in season 5. Why did Kelly leave the show?

That 70s Showuplifted careers of ultra-famous actors, but for Kelly, her life behind-the-scenes took a devastating turn when she lost a baby. She revealed to ABC News years after the show ended that this was the reason she had to step away.

Paramount+ has removed Russell Brand’s stand-up special, “Russell Brand in New York,” following the sexual assault allegations against him.
The comedian’s 2009 special is no longer available to stream on the platform. Search results for “Russell Brand” on Paramount+ now only produce two results: “Katy Perry the Movie: Part of Me” and the “Roast of David Hasselhoff.” The former includes scenes of Perry dealing with the collapse of her marriage with Brand. The comedian appears in background footage in the latter.
As for other stateside streamers, another one of Brand’s specials — “Russell Brand: Re:Birth” — is still available to stream on Netflix. It’s rare for Netflix to take down original specials, movies or shows after creators land in hot water. Kevin Spacey’s “House of Cards,” for instance, is still available to stream on the platform. Louis C.K.’s “2017,” “Hilarious” and “Live at the Comedy Store” stand-up specials are also available,...

On Monday, Bijou Phillips filed for divorce from Danny Masteron in a Santa Barbara, California, court. She cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason to end almost 12 years of marriage.
In May, a Los Angeles jury found Masterson, the former star of That 70s Show, guilty of two counts of rape. Phillips, along with other family members, was present when Masterson was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison. The actor was seen blowing a kiss to his wife before being taken away.
In court documents, Phillips has requested to receive spousal support and to “terminate the court’s ability to grant support” to Masterson, with whom she shares a 9-year-old daughter. She also asked for full legal custody of their daughter, and that the couple’s assets be divided up by the court.

Less than two weeks after Danny Masterson was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for the rape of two women, his wife Bijou Phillips has filed for divorce.
In a statement to THR, Bijou Phillips’ lawyer Peter Lauzon said, “Ms. Phillips has decided to file for divorce from her husband during this unfortunate time. Her priority remains with her daughter. This period has been unimaginably hard on the marriage and the family. Mr. Masterson was always present for Ms. Phillips during her most difficult times of her life. Ms. Phillips acknowledges that Mr. Masterson is a wonderful father to their daughter.” Bijou Phillips stood by her husband throughout his legal battles, and insiders had claimed that she had no plans to file for divorce after sentencing, so this news has come as a surprise to many.
