“The ‘Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony’ is truly music’s highest honor because we’re honoring artists that are generational,” says Joel Peresman, CEO of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. He also served as an executive producers for the live broadcast that aired on November 3, 2023 on Disney+. Watch our video interview above.
“They’re not one hit wonders,” he continues. “They’re not people that come and go. They’re artists that have had lasting impact on other artists, on society, on culture, their impact is immeasurable.” The 2023 honorees included Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Rage Against the Machine and The Spinners.
Elliott made history as the first female hip-hop artist inducted, and Peresman addresses critics who complain that certain artists inducted don’t fit the “rock & roll” mold. “Well, rock and roll is a broad tent,” he asserts.

Kicking off the start of Summer with the big Memorial Day weekend, a new documentary poses the question: What’s the “go-to” music for this season? Well, for the past 63 years, it’s been these pop icons out of Hawthorne, California, of course. Their signature songs invoke memories of ocean waves hitting the sand as eager athletes run through the foam with their trusty boards. Interestingly only one member of the original band surfed, though when watching a blonde adonis catching a “tasty wave”, you automatically, in your head, recall the sweet infectious harmonies of The Beach Boys.
After opening with glorious footage of an electric 1975 outdoor concert (naturally in the bright Summer sun), the doc springs back 15 or so years to the modest suburban home on 119th Street when the eldest Wilson brother Brian became fascinated by the careful vocal craftsmanship of the Four Freshmen along with other musical acts.

In early 1996, the three members of Sublime — frontman Bradley Nowell, bassist Eric Wilson, and drummer Bud Gaugh — were jamming in Willie Nelson’s Pedernales Studio in Austin, Texas, when they broke into an improvised, half-formed song that bootleggers would later call “Eireen.” Frontman Bradley Nowell, who would die of an overdose in May of that year, wasn’t taking the song entirely seriously, adding multiple lyrics about his “anus.” But there’s a striking moment when they hit a dub-influenced groove together and Nowell lands on a catchy refrain — “let...

We all agree that Michael Jackson is known for his enduring dance moves and infectious dance-pop songs, but one of his most poignant ballads, She’s Out of My Life, has a special place in his discography. This heartfelt song, produced by Quincy Jones, highlights Jackson’s emotional depth and vulnerability.
Written by veteran songwriter Tom Bahler, the song was released as the fourth single from Jackson’s 1979 album Off the Wall. Though the album gave the world, many upbeat songs, it also produced a breakup song (She’s Out of My Life) that made Jackson cry every time he tried to sing it.

A recent study has revealed a bump in planned drug usage at music festivals. According to the results of this year’s Drug Safety at Music Festival Study, conducted by research firm Innerbody, 84% of 2024 festival attendees are planning to use drugs on festival grounds, a 10% increase from last year’s survey.
Marijuana takes the crown for the third year in a row as the most consumed festival drug — this year, according to the data, 65% of festival-goers plan to enjoy their time with some form of cannabis. This is followed by cocaine, psychedelics, Mdma, and ketamine.
The poll also took specific festivals and gatherings into consideration: Wisconsin’s Rock Fest ranks as the top festival for drug use. While not a music festival, desert gathering Burning Man landed the second slot, with Coachella, Rolling Loud, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza all proving popular destinations for consumptions. The survey was conducted based on a sample of 900 respondents.

Willie Nelson wants more smoke in the kitchen, and he isn’t talking about pork shoulder or a beef brisket. On Nov. 12, the musician will share his favorite weed-based recipes in Willie and Annie Nelson’s Cannabis Cookbook: Mouthwatering Recipes and the High-Flying Stories Behind Them. “Over a lifetime of study, I learned that pot is more than pleasure. Its positive properties are limitless,” Nelson shared in a statement.
The Cannabis Cookbook pairs recipes for appetizers, main course entrees, and desserts with personal anecdotes from the Nelsons about their relationship with weed and food.

Willie Nelson was forced to quite smoking marijuana a few years back due to breathing issues. However, that doesn’t mean the country legend has cut down on his cannabis consumption; he still vapes and eats edibles. He’s also picked up more than a few cannabis recipes over the years, which he and his wife Annie have now collected in a new cookbook.
Willie & Annie Nelson’s Cannabis Cookbook is set for release on November 12th via Gallery Books (pre-orders are now ongoing). Spanning 256 pages, the recipe book draws from the couple’s “favorite meals on nationwide tours, at the ranch, at home, and in their favorite cities along the way.”

Chris Stapleton took the stage during his recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show for a special performance of “Loving You on My Mind.” The song, which appears on the musician’s latest studio album, Higher, was elevated to the next level as Stapleton was joined by Hudson herself and the country duo the War and Treaty.
Stapleton kicked off the song with the War and Treaty, singing alongside his band. About halfway through, following one of the singer’s soulful guitar solos, Hudson emerged from side stage to bring the performance home.

Country star Jason Aldean is one of the biggest names in the game today. Recently, Aldean talked about the two things that would make him quit music for good. So, what did he have to say?
Jason Aldean Ís One Of The Biggest Names In Music Today
You can’t talk about the biggest names in country music right now without adding Jason Aldean to that conversation. He is one of the first people many listeners think of when they think of industry leaders putting out the best music. In addition to putting out some killer tunes, Jason Aldean has the hardware and accolades to back it up.
Along with five Grammy nominations, Jason Aldean also has CMA and ACM awards to his name. With the level of success that he has achieved, Aldean could easily retire right now and live comfortably for the rest of his days. However, according to Aldean,...

Following the postponement of his 2023 tour for health-related reasons and his departure from Columbia Records, Orville Peck attempts something of a reset with Stampede: Vol. 1. A seemingly straightforward project consisting of seven duets, the album reflects both the gay South African country singer’s dedication to the genre and his desire not to be confined by it. And as a symbol of this newfound sense of agency, Peck altered his trademark leather mask to reveal much more of his face (though still covering his eyes) in his live performances and videos.
While Peck’s vocals drew comparisons to that of an Elvis impersonator when he emerged on the scene with 2019’s Pony, he’s smartly chosen guest artists on Stampede: Vol. 1 whose voices effectively complement his own. On “How Far Will We Take It,” for instance, Noah Cyrus’s higher range provides a nice contrast to Peck’s deep, husky tone.

While we absolutely love scripted movies and television here at /Film, we also have a deep appreciation for documentaries — series and films alike. With so many streaming services available, it feels like there are more documentaries out there than ever before, which can make finding the right one to watch a bit intimidating. Thankfully, I'm here to help recommend some of the best docs streaming this May, from remastered versions of music classics like "Stop Making Sense" and "Let it Be" to new docs with a fresh perspective, like the shocking "Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV" and "Stormy." There has honestly been a massive influx of showbiz docs lately, with a couple more great ones dropping fresh this month. The entertainment industry has always been rife with controversy and chaos, so there's sure to be no end of these docs anytime soon. Still, this latest crop is a real doozy.

Country star Eric Church has responded to criticism he received for putting on an unconventional, polarizing headlining set at the Stagecoach Music Festival.
Taking the festival’s main stage for its closing slot on Friday night, Church transformed Stagecoach into a literal church of sorts, projecting dramatic stained-glass art behind him and enlisting a gospel choir to fill-out the sound. Though his performance began later than scheduled, it opened with quite a statement: a five-minute organ intro followed by a cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” (but don’t tell St. Vincent that).

Tickets sold out in less than a month after going on sale last September — hitting that mark months before sister festival Coachella — and giving Stagecoach its biggest sales ever. Credit that to the current country music boom and to a stellar lineup put together by Stacy Vee, EVP of festival talent for Goldenvoice, the promoter behind Coachella and Stagecoach.

Dolly Parton honored Tom Petty with a gorgeous cover of his 1985 song, “Southern Accents,” which will appear on the upcoming tribute compilation Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty.
“Southern Accents” is a tender ballad about Southern roots and a down-on-his luck Florida orange-picker. Parton stays faithful to the original, adding her own country twang, and juicing the poignancy further with a music video filled with old archival footage of Petty.
“I was fortunate enough to get to know Tom over the years,” Parton said in a statement.
