Based on the combined predictions of over 2,000 Gold Derby users, Lily Gladstone (“Under the Bridge”) and Walton Goggins (“Fallout”) are not generally expected to reap 2024 Emmy bids at this time. However, their chances of soon reaching predicted nominee status greatly improved over the past week thanks to their new category placements. The limited series actress’ odds jumped from 100/1 to 66/1 after she migrated from lead to supporting, while the dramatic actor went from 62/1 to 37/1 by making the opposite move.
Gladstone’s “Under the Bridge” cast mate, Riley Keough, joined her in switching from lead to supporting but still retains her original 100/1 odds. The other two performers who rose above their previous 100/1 odds this week are lead actress Julianne Moore (“Mary & George”) and featured actor Mark Ruffalo (“All the Light We Cannot See”), both of whom hail from limited series.
At this point, the non-continuing series races are proving to be the most dynamic ones overall.

Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello’s seemingly perfect romance wasn’t meant to last. But after seven years of marriage, the couple announced their separation in July 2023—citing irreconcilable differences.
While the split came as a surprise to many, reports soon revealed the main reason: Vergara’s decision not to have more children. Her openness about the reason for their divorce – her not wanting more children – brought attention to Manganiello’s desire to become a father.

The cast of Modern Family reunited at the SAG Awards to present the “Ensemble in a Comedy Series” category, which was won by The Bear.
Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Ed O’Neill, Sofía Vergara, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson bantered about what they have been up to after the series ended.
But there was a more serious purpose in the appearance for at least one cast member. Jesse Ferguson, who played Mitchell Pritchett on the sitcom, said during a Friday appearance on The Tonight Show that he talked Ty Burrell into attending the ceremony to ward off rumors among fans who thought he’d died.
“Honestly, on that night, we were all busy,” Ferguson explained about their SAG reunion. “Sofia Vergara was supposed to be doing press, I was supposed to be here in New York, Julie Bowen was shooting a show, Ed O’Neill had a glass of wine to drink.

Tom Sandoval of Vanderpump Rules was name-dropped on Saturday Night Live during the “Weekend Update” segment with Marcello Hernández making a reference to the Bravo star.
Hernández appeared during the weekly segment as a frozen embryo from Alabama after the state’s Supreme Court ruled that embryos are the legal equivalent of a child.
When Colin Jost asked the embryo who his parents were, they said, “No, but based on my accent and size, I’m going to guess Sofía Vergara and an oompa loompa.”
The reference to Sandoval came after Jost asked the embryo if it felt like a full human life.
“Does this look like a life to you Colin? I’m living at negative 200 degrees in liquid nitrogen, freezing my non-existent nipples off. I don’t got a brain, I don’t got a heart. I’m like Tom Sandoval,” Hernández said as the embryo.

Jennifer Lopez took on an enormous challenge with This is Me … Now: A Love Story, the “narrative driven, cinematic original” film that hits Prime Video this week. It wasn’t the singing, acting or intricate choreography featured in the 65-minute musical, as the multihyphenate can do all of that in her sleep. The real hurdle arose when the money disappeared and Lopez opted to open her wallet to pay for the whole thing.
“Everybody thought I was crazy when I said I would do it. We did have financing, and then that fell out. They pulled out at the last minute, and then it was that moment where you go, ‘Ok, do we just make a video or do we go ahead and do this thing?'” explained the 54-year-old entertainer during an interview at the Four Seasons Los Angeles in Beverly Hills while sitting alongside her Nuyorican Prods. producing partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas.

Will Ferrell and Steve Carell make unlikely, AI-assisted cameos in the Jon Hamm-narrated Super Bowl Lviii trailer for Despicable Me 4.
Universal Pictures released the trailer Sunday, and it is set to run on CBS prior to Reba McEntire performing the National Anthem for the NFL’s big game taking place in Las Vegas. Filmmaker Chris Renaud’s animated movie hits theaters July 3, and focuses on the problems that ensue after Gru (Carell) and his family welcome Gru Jr. to their brood.

Most remember Griselda Blanco as the “Black Widow,” a ruthless Colombian drug lord whose network flooded Miami with cocaine, brought in $80 million a month nationally, and who’s been personally implicated in a rumored 200 murders. Michael Corleone Blanco, her youngest son raised at the height of her drug-trafficking empire, admits she was a rigid, stern woman he affectionately called cariñosa — an endearing term given to loved ones.
“As a kid, you can’t really comprehend what is wrong, what is right, and what is the family business,” Blanco tells Rolling Stone.

Los Angeles, Feb 10 (Ians) Former couple Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello have reached an agreement to finalise their divorce.
According to a filing obtained by People.com, on Friday, the divorce case is proceeding as an uncontested action, meaning both parties appeared and “entered into a written agreement regarding their property and their marriage … which is being or has been submitted to the court.”
Manganiello asked the court to terminate spousal support for both parties and attorney fees will be ordered as set forth in the proposed judgment, per the docs.
The former couple announced their split in July in a joint statement. They tied the knot in November 2015 and had been married seven years when they shared the news.
Two days after the joint statement, Manganiello filed for divorce from the America’s Got Talent host, citing “irreconcilable differences.” He listed the date of separation as July 2 and noted they had a prenup.

Griselda is not the story of a hero. Inspired by the life of Colombian businesswoman Griselda Blanco, it’s a fictionalized dramatization in which “there are so many nuances to explore in terms of who she was as a woman, as a mother, and, of course, as a drug lord who created one of the most profitable cartels in history,” says executive producer and star Sofía Vergara.
The limited series recreates the early days of the cocaine craze — and new money — sweeping Miami in the late ’70s and early ’80s. Co-created and executive produced by Eric Newman and directed by executive producer Andrés Baiz, Griselda taps into a time when Griselda Blanco’s savagery and charisma helped her expertly navigate between business and family, to whom she was known simply as “the Godmother.”

According to Sofía Vergara’s makeup artist Todd McIntosh, three prominent and iconic features needed to be covered up when transforming Vergara into Griselda Blanco, also known as “The Godmother,” for her latest role in Netflix’s “Griselda“: her nose, her “white smile” and her eyebrows.
McIntosh, who worked closely with the actor, notes “Griselda was not a pretty lady. So, the idea was to take away the things that make [Vergara] pretty and to make her look average. On top of that, tell the story through traditional makeup.”
In the six-part limited series, Vergara’s transformation is remarkable. Completely unrecognizable, she plays the notorious and ruthless Griselda. The story charts Griselda’s move from Colombia to Miami in the 1970s and follows her into the 1980s as she builds her drug empire, fearlessly taking on the other cartels to run one of the biggest cartels in history.

Sofia Vergara, who plays famed Colombian drug kingpin Griselda Blanco in the new hit Netflix series Griselda, is facing a lawsuit from the Blanco family for using her likeness without consent. The show, which premiered on January 25, documents the rise of the infamous Medellin drug mogul, with Vergara playing the title role.
The lawsuit was filed just six days before the show premiered.
Griselda Blanco’s only living son, Michael Corleone Blanco, claimed that Netflix was not authorized to use his mother’s image and that they were not compensated for the images used in the show.
In an interview with Fox News, Blanco stated, “Sofía Vergara did not consult with any members of the Blanco family as a sign of respect or elicit family details in portraying my mother.”
Michael also claimed that he has been working on a series of projects that included interviews and stories since 2009, with...

While the real cartel queenpin Griselda Blanco’s reign of violence besieged ’70s and ’80s Miami, there was only one casualty on set of the new drama created by the team behind Narcos:Griselda’s nose.
Griselda director and co-creator Andrés Baiz and executive producer and star Sofía Vergara developed a special bond after shooting for 100 days together. “[For] six months, I was in every scene and he was in every scene,” Vergara tells Tudum in the video above. “I got super lucky that I was able to come to a show where I was new to everything: acting in Spanish, doing dramatic acting. To be able to find Andi and the group of people he put together, it was a dream come true.”
After working so closely together, Vergara had an idea to celebrate Baiz on the last day of shooting. “She gave me the honor — this might sound gross...

They say the truth is stranger than fiction, but in the real world of Griselda Blanco, the truth is more brutal.
Inspired by the true story of Colombian drug trafficker Griselda Blanco and starring Sofía Vergara (who also serves as executive producer) as the ambitious and murderous Miami cartel head, Griselda tracks the dramatized life, business acumen, and downfall of “the Godmother,” one of America’s highest earning drug traffickers in the ’70s and ’80s… and one of the most deadly.
She went by many nicknames: “La Madrina,” “The Black Widow,” “La Dama de la Mafia.” But for her foes, the name Griselda became synonymous with death.
With six hour-long episodes, Griselda was created by Eric Newman (Painkiller) and Andrés Baiz — who directs every episode — reuniting the team behind Narcos and Narcos: Mexico. Newman, Doug Miro, Ingrid Escajeda, and Carlo Bernard serve as co-creators and executive produced the series...

The trailer and promos of Dune: Part Two have stirred enough curiosity among the audience to see what Timothee’s character, Paul Atreides, will do to avenge what happened to his family. It's been 14 years since Illumination entered the movie scene with "Despicable Me," and in that time, the film series has become the highest-grossing animated franchise ever. It has done so on the back of catchy tunes, memorable characters, a fun story of a villain accidentally (and reluctantly) finding redemption, and also the cultural phenomenon that is the Minions.
After the second movie in the franchise, we've also seen a new spin-off movie in between each new "Despicable Me" film that's centered on the Minions and their adventures before they met their best friend and overlord Gru. Now, after a seven-year absence, Gru is finally back -- and this time, he encounters an even greater challenge than when he tried to steal the moon. Now, he's a father.
That's right, following the monumental success of "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," Illumination is taking the "Shrek" route with Gru and the Minions by giving Gru a family.

Of the dozens of people introduced in Netflix's Griselda, only one remains alive: Michael Corleone Blanco, the youngest son of notorious drug trafficker Griselda Blanco (played by Sofía Vergara). As the docudrama reveals in its finale, Griselda had her husband Darío Sepúlveda (Alberto Guerra) assassinated when he fled to Colombia with Michael, while her three eldest sons, Dixon, Uber, and Ozzy, are suspected to have been murdered by her rivals. The "cocaine godmother" faced a similar fate in 2012, when, after her release from prison, she was gunned down in Medellín by an assailant on a motorcycle — a style of killing she's often credited with bringing to the streets of Miami.

Reformed supervillain Felonius Gru (Steve Carell) has come a long way since "Despicable Me" released back in 2010 -- the billion-dollar box office hit that put brand new animation studio Illumination on the map. In the first film, Gru adopted three orphan girls as part of a plot to steal the Moon, intending to discard them when they were no long of any use to him. But Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier), and Agnes (Elsie Fisher) melted Gru's villainous heart and he ended up keeping them.
In "Despicable Me 2," Gru turned away from his former life of crime and began working as an agent for the Anti-Villain League. Gru's family grew a little bigger when Felonius married fellow Avl agent Lucy Wilde (Kristen Wiig) at the end of the sequel. Now, the trailer for "Despicable Me 4" has introduced Gru and Lucy's baby son, Gru Jr., who seems unimpressed by his infamous father.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for “Adios, Miami,” the series finale of “Griselda,” now streaming on Netflix.
When viewers arrive at the end of Netflix’s new limited series “Griselda” — about the life and crimes of feared drug lord Griselda Blanco — they might be surprised to learn there is a lot more to the story.
The series doesn’t follow Griselda into her post-prison twilight years. Instead, it ends with the so-called Cocaine Godmother of Miami on the worst day of her life –– a scene that tested Sofía Vergara, the woman playing her.
“It was very emotional for me,” Vergara tells Variety of filming the sixth and final episode. “But I think with the help of [series director Andrés Baiz], I was able to tap into the things that, from the very beginning, made me believe that I could play her.”
In the finale, Griselda is arrested in California and sentenced...

Griselda Blanco, a formidable criminal mastermind, instilled fear throughout the 1970s and 80s Miami.
Recently, the infamous drug lord has undergone a Hollywood transformation, with Sofía Vergara of Modern Family fame teaming up with the creators of the crime drama Narcos to portray the leader of the criminal underworld.
The six-part Netflix series Griselda unfolds with intense shoot-outs, portraying the notorious criminal as a relatable yet ambitious and ruthless woman.
However, the authentic narrative of the woman nicknamed the “Cocaine Godmother” and linked to the deaths of her three husbands is considerably more complex.
As the mid-1980s approached, Blanco’s criminal empire began to crumble, and her reign of terror abruptly concluded with her arrest in Irvine, California.
On February 17, 1985, Blanco was apprehended in her residence by DEA agents, facing charges of manufacturing, importing, and distributing cocaine. Subsequently, Blanco spent two decades behind bars, marking the end of her tumultuous and notorious criminal career.

While Sofía Vergara was delighting millions of viewers for more than a decade as Gloria Pritchett on Modern Family, she was thinking about Griselda Blanco.
For 15 years, Vergara pored over the life of the woman known as the cocaine trade pioneer — who also earned the nicknames “The Godmother” and “The Black Widow” — for transforming the drug trade from Colombia to the United States, making her biggest mark in Miami, in the 1970s to the early 2000s.
Narcos boss Eric Newman had also spent time thinking about Blanco. The executive producer behind Netflix’s hit drug cartel franchise says he always wanted to tell the Colombian queenpin’s story and even considered bringing her into the Narcos fold while working the flagship series and spinoff Narcos: Mexico.
“The challenge that I found immediately with Griselda [Blanco] is that her story is so compelling; she’s such an anomaly,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter.

“I’m going to be very honest here. Because I’m Colombian and had been working in ‘Narcos’ for seven years, I was a little bit over [the subject matter]. I wanted to do something different,” Baiz, who has also directed episodes of “The Sandman,” told TheWrap.
But when he was given the opportunity to guide Vergara through her prestige drama debut by directing and producing all six episodes of “Griselda,” Baiz changed his mind.
“It was less about the character and more about the opportunity to work with somebody and getting her to reinvent herself as an actor. That was what really drew me,...

If you’re going to strut como La Jefa, then you’re going to need a backing track.
The new limited series Griselda stars Sofía Vergara as devoted mother and savvy and ambitious businesswoman Griselda Blanco. Inspired by the real-life “Godmother,” the story follows her rise through the Miami crime world to create one of the most profitable cartels in history. And that smoky setting needed music to match the allure of ’70s and ’80s Miami. “There’s such a wealth of great music from this period, and to be period accurate in this case was pretty easy because a lot of these songs are incredibly well known,” said creator and executive producer Eric Newman.
From David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” to Donna Summer’s “Hot Stuff,” the music in Griselda is meant to feel very much of a recognizable time and place. In addition to Latin and Caribbean music,...

You’ve never seen Sofía Vergara like this. In the new drama series Griselda, the veteran comedian (Modern Family) is La Jefa (“The Boss”) through and through. Vergara stars as the eponymous Griselda Blanco and also serves as an executive producer on the project, streaming now.
With six hour-long episodes, Griselda was created by Eric Newman (Painkiller) and Andrés Baiz — who directs every episode — reuniting the team behind Narcos and Narcos: Mexico. Newman, Doug Miro, Ingrid Escajeda, and Carlo Bernard serve as co-creators and executive produced the series alongside Baiz, Vergara, and Luis Balaguer with Latin World Entertainment. Escajeda and Miro are the series’ co-showrunners.
“From the earliest days of my research for what became Narcos, [Griselda] leapt out at me as a fascinating character,” Newman tells Tudum. “I have always endeavored to humanize complicated people, many of whom have been considered evil, and Griselda offered both the greatest...

Sofia Vergara and Netflix are at the center of a new lawsuit filed by late Griselda Blanco’s children over upcoming limited true crime series “Griselda.”
Lead star and executive producer Vergara is named in the suit that alleges the series uses Blanco’s family’s images and likenesses without proper authorization. TMZ first reported the legal filing. IndieWire has reached out to Vergara’s representatives and Netflix for comment.
Vergara responded to the pending legal claim in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, saying of playing Blanco, “I’m trying to understand her from the beginning. I started from being fascinated by her, because she achieved many things that it was impossible for a woman to achieve, even though they were horrific.”
“Griselda” creator Eric Newman added, “It’s not my first rodeo. The Escobar family made similar claims [for the TV series ‘Narcos’]. We had a very specific story we wanted to tell. I believe we told it,...

Even with 67.6 million followers, Karol G’s Instagram bio remains simple: Bichota Season.
Coining the term in her seductive 2020 track “Bichota,” the multiplatinum musician puts her own spin on the Puerto Rican slang word bichote, which refers to a man who’s an influential drug trafficker. But Karol G’s track is less about drugs and instead focuses on empowering women to influence the world with their hard work — while, of course, looking good as they do so.
The Colombian singer’s anthem created a movement with its lyrics, but long before bichota was even a word, Griselda Blanco was already living that lifestyle. Sofía Vergara steps into the titular role in Griselda (she also serves as executive producer), and it’s only fitting that Karol G plays one of her trusted confidants.
In the new limited series, Karol G trades her signature pink hair for retro bangs as the character Carla.

La Jefa has arrived.
In the first 10 minutes of the upcoming drama series Griselda, a woman rushes through the door of her palatial home, running up the wrought iron–lined stairway toward the bathroom. At the top of the stairs, she winces in pain and grabs her abdomen. She looks down. There is blood on her hands.
And so we are introduced to Sofía Vergara’s Griselda Blanco, the central character of the upcoming series Griselda, which debuts on Netflix Jan. 25 and follows the exploits of the ambitious Colombian businesswoman who created one of the most profitable cartels in history.
As the preview clip continues, Griselda stumbles inside the bathroom, rummages through toiletries, then presses a menstrual pad to her side wound. She affixes it with children’s Band-Aids, chomps a handful of painkillers, and looks intensely into the mirror. Violence has truly come home…
