We've all seen our fair share of horror movies with kids in them. Sometimes they're creepy and sometimes they're innocent victims but they're always just a little bit out of place in such dark films. After all, children are young and innocent, and our instinct is to protect them from violence and things that go bump in the night. To be fair, most horror films do a great job of shielding their child actors from the scarier elements of the narrative, which often means filming their reaction shots separately so that they don't have to look at gruesome makeup or actively participate in age-inappropriate set pieces, or giving them only an abbreviated version of the story so they don't quite know what their character is experiencing.
Still, some horror movies, particularly ones that have received an R-rating, contain content that makes it hard to support hiring a kid to take part.

Sydney, June 14 (Ians) Researchers have used heart and lung stem cells infected with the virus that causes Covid-19 to better understand how the disease impacts different organs, paving the way for more targeted treatments.
The research, co-led by Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity (Doherty Institute) in Australia, found the responses to Sars-CoV-2 varied significantly depending on the cell type, allowing the team to identify effective antiviral drugs to treat infection in heart and lung cells.
To understand the impact of Sars-CoV-2 on different organs, the team engineered human stem cells in the lab into lung and heart cells and infected them with the virus.
The findings, published in the journal Stem Cell Reports, showed that the heart and lungs exhibit distinct antiviral and toxicity profiles that could inform better Covid therapies and treat its complications.

2023 marks the 45th anniversary of the release of Jaws 2 (watch it Here), the most well-regarded of the Jaws sequels – and Universal is celebrating the occasion by giving the film a 4K Uhd release! The Jaws 2 4K Uhd will be available on July 4th, which seems like a fitting date since the first Jaws is a Fourth of July classic. Copies can be pre-ordered at This Link.
Directed by Jeannot Szwarc from a screenplay written by Carl Gottlieb and Howard Sackler, Jaws 2 has the following synopsis: It’s been four years since that marauding great white shark terrorized the small summer resort of Amity; but the shark that Police Chief Brody destroyed wasn’t the only one in the ocean! The same heart-stopping suspense and gripping adventure that enthralled movie audiences throughout the world in Jaws returns in this worthy sequel to that film classic.

2023 marks the 45th anniversary of the release of Jaws 2 (watch it Here), the most well-regarded of the Jaws sequels. So it seems quite appropriate that a cool Jaws 2 discovery had been made this year: The Daily Jaws has found a long-lost scene from the film, and the only known footage of this scene comes from a Brazilian VHS! This leads me to believe that the scene was probably always included in the Brazilian home video release of Jaws 2, but that’s not completely clear from the report on The Daily Jaws.
What we do know is that Jaws 2 begins with a pair of divers being attacked by a shark while checking out the sunken wreckage of the Orca boat from the first movie. Later in the film, Deputy Hendricks (Jeffrey Kramer) is shown to have retrieved the underwater camera that was dropped by the divers. In this lost footage,...

Despite Mockingjay and Interstellar muscle, the current frame was down more than 30% on last week, but very close to last year’s comparable weekend for the Top 10 studio titles. Indies and local films that factored big this session included Women Who Flirt ($11.5M) and Rise Of The Legend ($5.5M, cume $18M) in China; along with Paddington‘s $8.5M bear hug to the UK, Mexico and Peru.
Last year this time, Catching Fire was the big game globally, while Gravity, much like Warner Bros’ Interstellar this year, was still exerting force in China in the similar period. Also last year, Frozen was just getting its skates on for what would go on to be a record breaking run.
Next week, Korea will be the among the first overseas territories where Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods And Kings heads into action along with Mexico, Australia, Argentina, Spain and...

There have been a lot of small, brilliant pieces of movie news lately. Cool ideas and interesting people attached to projects with potential. That’s why it’s particularly bitter to hear news that feels a lot like gargling acid. This specific swallow comes from Deadline Fredericksburg who report that Universal is back to mining their own library to come up with Midnight Run 2. Maybe a sequel would be a good idea. Who knows. Martin Brest had his own sins as a director, but Beverly Hills Cop and Midnight Run were his best. It’s tough that he ended his career on Gigli, but it might be even tougher that Universal is working with Brett Ratner to direct a sequel to the Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin-starring flick about an accountant trying his best to keep breathing while the FBI, some bounty hunters and the mob are on his tail. What...

It's been nearly two years since we reported anything on Midnight Run 2. Last we heard, Charles Grodin, who played Jonathan Mardukas in the original was out since Martin Brest would not come out of his cave to direct. Brest hasn't gone anything since Gigli. I don't blame him for not taking a chance on this one. Robert De Niro is still attached to reprise his role. Originally, Timothy Dowling (Role Models) was set to script, but now new writers have been brought in. David Elliot & Paul...

1949: The radio version of The Brighter Day aired its final episode on NBC Radio. It moved to CBS Radio the following Monday. Typical of an Irna Phillips soap, the show opened with an epigraph: Our years are as the falling leaves -- we live, we love, we dream, and then we go. But somehow we keep hoping, don't we, that our dreams come true on that brighter day.
Celebrating a birthday today are:
Kevin Bacon (ex-Tim, Guiding Light; ex-Todd, Search For Tomorrow) - 53
David Elliott (ex-Billy, The Doctors) - 52
Valarie Pettiford (ex-Shelia, One Life To Live; ex-Courtney, Another World) - 51
