Chris Rock was forced to work overtime at the Cannes Film Festival in France after a writing deadline was reportedly pushed forward.
The funnyman agreed to pen the foreword to a book called Make 'Em Laugh, about the history of New York City comedy club Comic Strip where Rock began his stand-up career.
However, the publishers moved the deadline and asked Rock to hand over his work early, according to New York Post gossip column Page Six.
Rock was at Cannes to promote his new animated film Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted when he got the news, and had to spend all his free time working on the piece.
A source tells the publication, "He got word that the publisher moved up the production schedule and needed his introduction right away. Chris was kind enough to write it while he was in Cannes, and sent it right over to make the deadline."
The book by Richie Tienken and Jeffrey Gurian is due for release on 1 October.

We just discovered that comedian Kevin Hart and Tony Rock are two comics who are about to step up to the plate for a cause- and this one cause is for Haiti.
After the devastation of the Earthquake that hit Haiti last month, there have been several known organizations that have had benefits to raise some financial support for Haiti, and comedy is one of the avenues that have also contributed.
With tons of benefits across the country for Haiti, there haven't been too many comedians of the stature of Hart or Rock who stepped up to donate their time to do a benefit show; until now.
We hear that Hart and Rock are going to perform in New York at the Theatre at Westbury on Long Island, NY on Feb. 20th. As we stated, there will be donations as one dollar of every ticket sold will go to relief efforts in Haiti.
