The TV academy has honored voice-only performances since 1992, when six cast members from “The Simpsons” collectively became the first actors to receive Emmys for such work. The Best Voice-Over Performance category became an official non-juried one in 2009 and was then split into two categories in 2014: Best Character Voice-Over and Best Narrator. Harry Shearer (“The Simpsons”) was the former category’s first champion, having been nominated once before for the same series.
The 2023 Best Character Voice-Over ballot consists of 148 performances, which is down by 74 from last year. Seeking her third victory is Maya Rudolph, who plays Connie the Hormone Monstress on “Big Mouth.” Also in the mix are former winners Shearer, Hank Azaria (“The Simpsons”), Alex Borstein (“Family Guy”), and Seth MacFarlane (“Family Guy”).

Jimmy Kimmel is ready to “fight” Roy Moore, if that’s what he was challenging him to, that is. The host of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” got into a Twitter brawl with the Alabama Republican running for a seat in the U.S. Senate on Thursday after Kimmel set up a stunt with late-night writer Tony Barbieri at Moore’s rally in a church. Kimmel used his monologue that night as a platform to escalate things further. “.@jimmykimmel If you want to mock our Christian values, come down here to Alabama and do it man to man. #ALSen,” Kimmel said, reading the tweet Moore wrote.

Jimmy Kimmel and Roy Moore look like they’re gonna come to blows pretty soon, and comedian Tony Barbieri’s alter-ego Jake Byrd could be considered the main instigator. ABC late-night show “Jimmy Kimmel Live” recently sent the comic to disrupt a Moore rally in Alabama. “Byrd” really pulled off the mission, leading his boss and the former judge to feud — hard — on Twitter. No. 1-supporter Byrd was eventually booted from the rally’s church setting for being too enthusiastically in favor (?) of the candidate for an Alabama Senate seat, repeatedly shouting things like, “Does that look like the face of.

The Writers Guild of America has just announced the nominations for their annual awards for Best Screenplays (by writers who are guild signatories). That’s right, before you get nervous thinking that your favorite may have been left off the list, you must remember that the WGA is the group that is not all-inclusive and leaves out several of the top contenders each year due to them not being part of the guild or not following their very specific rules. For this reason, you won’t see Inside Out, The Hateful Eight, and Ex Machina in the Original Screenplay category or Room, Brooklyn, or Anomalisa in the Adapted screenplay category.
Taking a look at what’s left over for the nominations, we find many that were expected to make a showing, including Spotlight and Bridge of Spies for Original Screenplay, though they apparently had to sink to really low depths...

The Writers Guild of America announced the TV nominees for the 2015 WGA Awards on Thursday (December 4) morning and several new shows broke into the fields in a big way. And, of course, there were a number of big WGA Award nomination head-scratchers. Specifically, where the heck was FX's "Fargo"? The answer is below. Making perhaps the biggest splash was "Transparent," which earned three nominations and, since "Orange Is The New Black" earned two nods and "House of Cards" pick up one, that meant that Amazon Prime and Netflix are, at least for one award-giving organization, on equal footing as creators of original programming. The Jill Soloway-created "Transparent" is nominated for New Series, where it will go against "The Affair," "The Knick," "Silicon Valley" and "True Detective." "Transparent" and "Silicon Valley" are also up for Comedy Series, going against "Louie," "Veep" and "Orange Is The New Black." Lest you panic...

Well you don't have to tell me twice, after Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash were awarded the USC Libraries Scripter Award on Saturday I got a feeling the Writers Guild would be going the same way, and just that has happened. Last night the WGA awarded The Descendants for Best Adapted Screenplay while also awarding Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris for Best Original Screenplay. As a result I have had to change my Oscar predictions in the Best Adapted Screenplay category as it would appear all heat was on the adaptation of Kaui Hart Hemmings's novel and not on Aaron Sorkin and Steve Zaillian's script for Moneyball. You can see those updated predictions right here. In the Original category I have had Allen's script at the top since the beginning and I see no reason to change that now. Jimmy Kimmel Live! scored a bit of a coup last night with a Herman Cain interview just hours after a fourth woman came forward and accused the Gop candidate of sexual harassment. But Kimmel's biggest accomplishment of the day may have been inadvertently duping some news outlets into believing that a character on his show, Jake Byrd -- who was pretending to be an over-the-top Michael Jackson fan gathered for the verdict -- was an actual Jackson fan performing an over-the-top celebration.

As soon as we thought we could predict the outcome of the Oscars, here comes another surprise! This one's brought to you by the Writers Guild of America. Picked for Best Original Screenplay was Christopher Nolan's "Inception." The director, famously dissed for not getting a Best Director Oscar nomination, may just win the Best Original Screenplay come Oscar night. Oscar front-runner, "The King's Speech" was not nominated because it didn't quality under union rules which prompted Nolan to say during his WGA acceptance award that he looked forward to a time when he could accept the award "without qualification."
That could be the beginning of a great script Mr. Nolan, go write it :happy
For adapted screenplay, I'm happy to report that Aaron Sorkin's fantastic script won! Based on "The Accidental Billionaires" by Ben Mezrich, "The Social Network" was the only film last year that I predicted to win this very category.

"Phillip Morris" will be competing with awards-favorites "127 Hours" (screenplay by Danny Boyle & Simon Beaufoy), "The Social Network" (screenplay Aaron Sorkin), "The Town" (screenplay by Peter Craig and Ben Affleck & Aaron Stockard), and True Grit (screenplay by Joel Coen & Ethan Coen).
In the Original Screenplay category, critics-darlings "Black Swan" (screenplay by Mark Heyman and Andres Heinz and John McLaughlin), "The Fighter" (screenplay by Scott Silver and Paul Tamasy & Eric Johnson), "Inception" (Christopher Nolan), and "The Kids Are All Right" (written by Lisa Cholodenko & Stuart Blumberg) will be competing with "Please Give" by Nicole Holofcener. Getting plenty of company as her time behind bars draws close to an end, Lindsay Lohan welcomed three visitors at the Century Regional Detention Facility on Thursday (July 29).
Having stuck alongside their loved one the whole way through, Dina and Ali Lohan made the trip to the Lynwood lockup - where they toted huge bags of fan mail from an SUV for Lindsay to read through.
Also spotted at Century Regional was LiLo's ex-girlfriend Samantha Ronson, who covered her face as she ran by perched up paparazzi for her second visit during Lindsay's 10-day jail stay.
Not on the guest list but ever so present, the Lynwood site also brought out avid protester, Jake Byrd, who strongly shouted out, "Free the Lohan 1!" and "Lindsay's innocent!".
Joined by a few fellow Lohan fans, Byrd's peaceful protest also saw him holding up signs reading, "Stop Snitching" and "Free My Love Bug".

More amusing than yet another celebrity in court (now jail, as it were) is Jake Byrd: the loyal fan who supports our (in)famous entertainers -- no matter what the charge -- at each of their court appearances.
'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (weeknights, 12:05Am Et on ABC) reminded us of Byrd's consistent enthusiasm with footage of his vocal reactions following O.J. Simpson's arraignment and Paris Hilton's DUI hearing.
His most recent cause celebre was Lindsay Lohan's sentencing on July 6. Standing vigilant outside the courthouse, Byrd wore the actress' mug on his T-shirt, below the word "Linnocent!" As security rushed LiLo past the crush of journalists and photographers, Byrd stood in the crowd shouting, "Lindsay! Fight for your right to party!! Make me your one call!"
Later he spotted Lindsay's dad Michael and managed a hug from him. "Good luck to you,...
