Lale Andersen was born on March 23, 1905 in Lehe-Bremerhaven, Germany. She was an actress and writer, known for Underground (1995), G.P.U. (1942) and Lili Marleen (1981). She was married to Artur Beul and Paul Ernst Wilke. She died on August 29, 1972 in Vienna, Austria.
Being a close friend of Rolf Liebermann and other Jewish artists,
Joseph Goebbels didn't allow her to perform publicly for nine
months. Due to her popularity, the ban was lifted on several conditions
(1943).
Made a comeback with a cover version of Melina Mercouri's song "Never On
Sunday" (1959).
