The Flying Monkey debates which has the bigger gay fanbase: True Blood or Glee? Also this week: Ant on playing a gay teenager at age 28, the greatness of Jonathan Groff, and more anti-gay 'tude on So You Think You Can Dance?
Have a question about gay male entertainment or life? Contact me here (and be sure and include your city and state and/or country!)
Q: What has the bigger gay fanbase: True Blood or Glee? – Lisa, Los Angeles, CA
A: Glee has more total viewers than True Blood – their last season finales drew 10.9 versus 5.1 million viewers, respectively – so it stands to reason that it probably has more gay viewers too.
But ratings may not tell the whole story. Just as in the greater culture, I think there might be something of a generational divide – with younger gay men probably tending to prefer Glee, and older folks maybe gravitating toward True Blood.

Twitter updates were booming last night, which should come as no surprise since most comic book creators are nocturnal. Brian Michael Bendis tweeted a micro-review of the Facebook movie script he's seen, and Rob Liefeld couldn't hold back his excitement coming out of a Deadpool meeting.
Meanwhile, on the East Coast, everyone in comics with a Twitter account seemed to be either out to greet British visitors Andy Diggle and Jock or tweeting their RSVP. Then there was Geoff Johns, who set up his own in-home Mame emulator-powered arcade cabinet. But "Donkey Kong Jr." would prove to be his downfall.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and that mixtape of tweets is waiting for you below in the Twitter Report for September 23, 2009.
@Brianmbendis i read the facebook script. its great. really really great. sorkin might win an oscar great.
-Brian Michael Bendis, Writer ("New Avengers," "Ultimate Spider-Man")
Deadpool pt. 1: @robertliefeld Also excited...

Here's something that is going to take up most of your day.
Actually, it's not really new. It's an anagram site, and those have been popular on the web for years. But let's put a TV twist on it. As Whitney over at Pop Candy points out, David Letterman = Dead, Terminal TV. I don't happen to agree, but that's kinda funny. For the record, Jay Leno = Enjoy La!
Paris Hilton = In His Patrol
Jon and Kate = Ant and Joke (doesn't really make sense but somehow fits)
Keith Olbermann = I'm The Rank Noble
Katie Couric = Ciao! Irk Cute
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire = Oh Wow! I'm A Brain On Satellite!
What can you come up with? Bob Sassone = So Base Snob

Q: My friend and I were having a discussion about the word “faggot” after he saw the episode Kings where Silas calls Jack one. My friend was really shocked that they used the word on TV, but my reaction was "So what? Don't they say it on TV often?” Do they? – Mark, Queens, NY
A: Truthfully, no. It’s pretty rare.
I’m of mixed minds here: part of me gets annoyed when people react to specific words like they’re something other than just words, like they’re plutonium – so toxic that they can’t even be spoken out loud. This ends up giving these words far more power than they deserve.
Then again, a different part of me gets annoyed when screenwriters – usually straight male screenwriters – include things in...

Again, I’m still on vacation, but unlike me VH1 never rests, hence their new show, Celebrity Magic Club, in which various notables like that one Pussycat Doll, and That Woman From A Sitcom, Maybe learn magic for some reason. It’s not the David-Blaine, standing-on-a-block-for-two-days, or sitting-in-a-giant-water-globe-for-a-week kind of magic—which is unfortunate because it might be fun to see C. Thomas Howell buried alive. Instead, the show appears to be a chance for VH1 to burn through all of its leftovers—Ant, Hal Sparks, the candle-strewn interview room from The Pick-Up Artist—with a little pyrotechnics, and hidden mirrors. video.vh1.com...
