Baywatch is splashing back into Hollywood with a new movie reboot and an all-star cast, but the beloved franchise never would have breached the surface in the first place if it weren’t for the TV show’s original star, David Hasselhoff, coming to the rescue.

But when the show was canceled after its first season, the actor invested his own money to give the series another chance in 1991.

David Hasselhoff has claimed he has less than $4,000 to his name.
The 63-year-old star and Pamela Bach divorced in 2006, and the 52-year-old had been receiving $21,000 a month in spousal support from her ex-husband.
However, David filed legal documents last month (Apr16) to reduce this amount and now TMZ.com have revealed details of his reasoning behind requesting to cut the payments.
According to the website, the former Knight Rider star grosses $112,000 (£76,845) a month, but spends $66,000 (£45,283). When Bach's spousal support is taken out of that, as well as having to pay his taxes and other bills, Hasselhoff is said to have told the court he is able to save virtually nothing.
The documents detail that Hasselhoff's European tour was cut short due to poor ticket sales, and his reality show Hoff the Record is unlikely to be as successful as he originally hoped.

Actress Pamela Anderson left fans stunned after making a live, unannounced appearance on Britain's Big Brother reality TV show on Thursday.
The former Baywatch star showed up alone in the empty house just moments after the latest series of Celebrity Big Brother had wrapped up and all the contestants had left the building.

She replied, "I'm going to give them the ride of their lives. I'm going to leave a skid mark on every one of them... See you tomorrow. Watch out!"
Fourteen contestants will meet special guest Anderson on Friday as part of the new series of Big Brother, in which competitors are 'locked' in a house together.
Anderson was not part of the recent series of Celebrity Big Brother, which featured Tara Reid and David Hasselhoff's ex-wife Pamela Bach.

Pamela Bach has taken aim at her former husband David Hasselhoff, accusing him of snubbing her in public and dating more than one woman.
The actress split from the former Baywatch star in 2006 after 16 years of marriage, but they've struggled to remain on friendly terms since their divorce.
Now Bach has hit out at her ex, claiming he has "other" women apart from his Welsh girlfriend Hayley Roberts and accusing him of ordering his aides to keep Bach away from him at public events.
She tells Britain's Ok! magazine, "We should (speak) because (our daughters) shouldn't be put in the middle. At their recent T4 On The Beach concert (in the U.K.) he didn't even say hello.
"I ran up to see my girls but before I got to them a woman who works with David stopped me and said: 'David doesn't want you around.' Asked her opinion of Roberts, Bach replies, "Which one? She's the girl he's showing to the press but I know there are others in America. It's funny he did those Baywatch pictures with her, maybe he should do a shoot for something more current - Baywatch ended eight years ago (sic)."...

David Hasselhoff has admitted that he wanted a relationship with girlfriend Hayley Roberts from the moment he first saw her in Wales. The Britain's Got Talent judge, who divorced Celebrity Big Brother contestant Pamela Bach-Hasselhoff in 2006, has been dating Debenhams shop assistant Roberts since April. "Hayley is proof that Britain really does have talent," Hasselhoff told The Sunday Mirror. "I was walking into the St David's Hotel in Cardiff when we were in Wales for Britain's Got Talent and she came up and asked for a photograph. The Celebrity Big Brother housemates have passed their Wizard Of Oz-themed shopping task. The famous inmates were transformed into characters from the classic fantasy tale yesterday and set a series of tasks relating to their new alter egos. Big Brother tonight gathered the group in the living room to reveal the outcome of the task, first confirming that Darryn Lyons - aka the Tin Man - had proven himself to have a heart and Pamela Bach-Hasselhoff - the Cowardly Lion - had shown her courage. As Lyons was awarded his 'heart' to a round of applause, Bobby Sabel sniped: "Now you've given him a spare and he can be an arse again." Big Brother then revealed that Amy Childs - the Scarecrow - had proven herself to have a brain and Lucien Laviscount, who became the Wicked Witch, had (more)...

Pamela Bach-Hasselhoff and Darryn Lyons have won their respective Celebrity Big Brother Wizard of Oz tasks. Bach-Hasselhoff, dressed as the Cowardly Lion, passed her test of courage by allowing her hand to be slammed on a number of plastic cups - one of which had a sharp spike inside it - by Britain's Got Talent magician David Penn. Meanwhile, Lyons - as the Tin Man - also reigned victorious after proving he had a heart. The paparazzo was given the chance to have his favourite meal, a glass of white wine and quality time with his pet parrot Mr P. However, he decided to forego the three 'selfish' desires to bag a Chinese takeaway for the rest of the housemates, (more)...
