Cheerleader Camp (1989)
Directed By: John Quinn
Written By: David Lee Fein, R.L. O’Keiff
Starring: Betsy Russell (Alison), Leif Garrett (Brent), Lucinda Dickey (Cory), Lorrie Griffin (Bonnie), George Buck Flower (Pop), Travis McKenna (Timmy), Teri Weigel (Pamela), Rebecca Ferratti (Theresa Salazar), Vickie Benson (Ms. Tipton), Jeff Prettyman (Sheriff Poucher), Krista Pflanzer (Suzy)
“Cheerleader Camp”, which has the alternate title “Bloody Pompoms”, is much better than some of the later slasher fare I have seen. The slasher boom was in the early 1980s but by the time the late 80s came around it seems the ideas were thin.
“Cheerleader Camp” feels like a strange version of “Friday the 13th” in many aspects. While I do like the movie as a whole, it does have its issues. It could also be that I have a soft spot for slasher films as they were the first...

Cheerleader Camp Over the years there has been plenty of annoying horror film characters for various reasons. You had Katherine Kamhi in Sleepaway Camp. She played such a good something that rhymes with witch that you would think she was one in real life. So when she got hers in Sleepaway Camp, it was well deserved! And wouldn't you be tempted to knock off someone that treated you like that? Or how about Giallo from Dario Argento. That woman, who was being held hostage, had so many opportunities to escape and get away, that she eventually became downright annoying. So much so that I would knock her off myself and end the pain that viewers sitting through that film had to endure. So c'mon, admit it, there's definitely been a character you wish you could go knock off yourself. That special someone you was rooting against. My pick goes to.
