The Movie: "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!"
Where You Can Stream It: The Roku Channel, Plex
The Pitch: John Waters was once quoted as saying that Russ Meyer's 1965 violence epic, "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!," was "beyond a doubt, the best movie ever made. It is possibly better than any film that will be made in the future." It's difficult to argue with him. "Pussycat" is, in many ways, the purest distillation of cinema. On what might be its most basic level, films serve as a reflection of our own prurient desires reflected back at us. They exist to indulge our appetites for life's simplest, most lascivious things. We want to see violence. We want salacious, soap opera-like stories and brazen,...

Varla, Rosie and Billy spend their days as gogo dancers for a night club, dancing for dollars in front of ogling screeching men. When they meet an old man and his two unstable sons, they decide to make themselves at home in their old farm when Varla learns the old man may be hiding a large cache of money. The Damage: Russ Meyer was a man who loved breasts. He surely enjoyed the female form, but mostly he loved breasts. He fetishized them, worshipped them, and centered his entire career making films that idolized them in some form or another. Russ Meyer is one of...

Between inventing pin-up photography, earning the nickname "Bernard of Hollywood" and discovering Marilyn Monroe, Bruno Bernard may just be the world's most famous photographer.
In her new book "Marilyn: Intimate Exposures," Bernard's daughter, former Playboy Playmate Susan Bernard, has released a collection of her father's most famous photographs of the one and only Marilyn Monroe--including 40 never-before-seen shots.
(Scroll Down For Photos)
In the collection are the first professional photographs ever taken of Monroe (then named Norma Jean Dougherty), intimate backstage shots throughout her career, original negatives, Bernard's work notes and letters from Monroe to Bernard, including one reading, "Remember Bernie, you started it all."
Bernard is presenting the collection at the San Francisco Art Exchange for its United States premiere during the 50th anniversary commemoration of Monroe's death.
"I chose San Francisco for two reasons," said Susan Bernard about the exhibition to The Huffington Post. "First, because this is where Marilyn was her happiest.

Marilyn Monroe, who died 50 years ago, created a wholly other version of herself, meant not to convince but to seduce. John Banville, who fell in love with her when he was 10, considers a new biography of this enduringly compelling icon
I first fell in love with her in River of No Return, in which she starred with Robert Mitchum and Rory Calhoun. The movie was released in 1954, and probably did not get to Ireland until the following year, so I was 10 when I saw it, at the Capitol Cinema in Wexford. The Capitol was a rather gaunt, barn-like picture palace, with a wooden floor and seats covered with balding plush that gave off a curiously doggy smell. But the glory of the place, at least in my memory of it, was the great scarlet curtain, fluted and fringed, that would open with a deeply suggestive swish as the house lights...

Fifty years after her death, Marilyn Monroe has never been more popular. From "My Week With Marilyn" (now out on DVD) to the TV show "Smash," to a new photo book written by the daughter of the photographer credited with discovering the future superstar, Monroe is still as hot as she was in her heyday.
Susan Bernard's "Marilyn, Intimate Exposures" features previously unseen images of Marilyn taken by her father, Bruno Bernard, including the iconic photo of the blonde bombshell in the white halter dress on the set of "The Seven Year Itch."
Before she became an author, Bernard was famous in her own right: She was a Playboy Playmate and starred in the '60s cult classic, "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!"
"We're a cult family," she told Moviefone with a laugh. She was once married to "The Exorcist" star Jason Miller and their son, Joshua, starred in two '80s cult films,...

Photographer Bruno Bernard took thousands of photographs of Marilyn Monroe -- including the iconic white dress images as she stood over a subway grate. However, in a new book, Marilyn: Intimate Exposures, his daughter Susan Bernard reveals that, at Monroe’s first ever professional photoshoot, she felt upstaged by a dog!
"Bruno first laid eyes on Norma Jean on Sunset Boulevard right after a dentist appointment," Susan told me. "He gave her his business card and she came the very next morning to do the test shots. Those shots were enough to book her on her first job which was a bandage advertisement, where Norma Jean would be bandaging a dog that same week."
For the shoot, Bruno borrowed his dentist's dog, Rolf, who happened to be the closest dog in proximity to the studio. Everything was great at the shoot and Jean even fed the pooch treats from the box,...

London, Aug 26: Actress Lindsay Lohan has compared herself to the 'beautiful bad girl' Marilyn Monroe and revealed that just like the late screen icon she wants to be known for her talent rather than a troubled personal life.
The 25-year-old talked about the blonde bombshell in a foreword for Susan Bernard's new book 'Marilyn: Intimate Exposures', and insisted she doesn't want to be a 'celebrity'.
"People in their mind have created who I am and act as if there is no real person inside of me. Just like Marilyn," the Daily Mail quoted her as saying.
"Marilyn never wanted to be just a celebrity. Neither.

The troubled actress – who has had several stints in rehab and a string of legal problems, most recently serving 35 days house arrest after breaching probation by stealing a necklace – insists she doesn’t want to be a “celebrity” and believes people no longer view her as a “real person”.
Comparing herself to late screen icon Marilyn Monroe, she said: “People in their mind have created who I am and act as if there is no real person inside of me. Just like Marilyn.
“Marilyn never wanted to be just a celebrity. Neither do I.
“I had always thought that movie stars were in films that would last forever in your mind. But now the films don’t. I don’t want to be remembered as someone who just wanted to be photographed, who goes out at night, and gets in trouble.
“Heath Ledger once said to me, 'It’s built...

This isn’t the first time the Lindsay Lohan Marilyn Monroe comparison has been made: they’re both troubled, blond (usually) and didn’t star in Mean Girls 2. In case we weren’t putting the pieces together on our own, however, Lilo has taken the time to spell it out for us…in the book Marilyn: Intimate Exposures. “I can understand the photographer Bernard of Hollywood’s [Bruno Bernard] statement, ‘it took a superhuman effort to be Marilyn.;” Lindsay writes, providing the forward for author Susan Bernard‘s book. “I identify.” Jeez, Lilo, you might as well go ahead and paint us a pict…oh right, those Lindsay Lohan Marilyn Monroe photos. Girl is on her Monroe game!
“Marilyn never wanted to be just a celebrity,” Lindsay continues. “Neither do I … I had always thought that movie stars were in films that would last forever in your mind. But now the films don’t.

It is no secret that Lindsay Lohan has been trying to channel Marilyn Monroe for a long time -- she even recreated Bert Stern's ‘Last Sitting’ for New York magazine back in 2008. But now the young actress is actually comparing herself to the screen legend in a forward she wrote for Susan Bernard’s new book, Marilyn: Intimate Exposures.
“Marilyn was the beautiful bad girl in that tight, rose-colored dress. The character she played was strong and taking control, which I unconsciously knew at that young age [12] was a necessary quality for a woman.” Lindsay writes. “I can understand the photographer Bernard of Hollywood’s [Bruno Bernard] statement, 'it took a superhuman effort to be Marilyn.’ I identify."
But Lohan doesn't stop there when it come to drawing the similarities between herself and the bombshell icon.

I don’t know about you, but when someone mentions the term “Cinematic Female Badass”, I think if Tura Satana’s role of Varla in Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! Sure, there have been recent female badasses that have graced the silver screen, but no one was as seductive and menacing as Varla. I had the chance to meet her a few times back in 2008 in Toronto and here in St. Louis. My friend Tom Stockman even helped bring her to the Way Out Club to hang out, watch Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! and even judge a burlesque contest. I’m truly saddened to give you the news that Tura Satana has passed on. The star of Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! and Astro-Zombies died yesterday at 5pm in Reno, Nv at the age of 75. When I met her 3 years ago she was still full of spunk and didn’t take shit from anyone.
