- Attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School (London) before obtaining minor movie and TV parts. Break came on BBC 1 soap opera EastEnders (1985) as "Wicksy", a young man with musical aspirations. Fiction turned to truth when "Every Loser Wins", sung by Berry on one episode, hit the top of the UK charts in 1986. Berry toured the club scene and cut an eponymous album before returning to the series. After leaving EastEnders (1985), Berry assumed a starring role in Heartbeat (1992) as a country constable. - He and his brothers Michael and Simon and sister Amanda were born to their parents Dick and Josie Berry and despite no history of acing in the family by the age of 8 he was acting in children;s theatre. He never finished schooling properly as when he was in O level class he was offered 3 months of touring in the musical 'Oliver' When he returned to school he'd dropped down to CSE grade due to being so far behind . He did manage to pass Metal Work, Drama English and Maths in between acting as a messenger and other minor roles and wishes that he had more experience behind him. - As well as being a hugely popular actor, he also enjoyed pop success. In October 1986, he spent three weeks at number one in the UK singles chart with "Every Loser Wins", a song he had performed in an episode of EastEnders (1985). In 1992, he reached number two in the UK singles chart with his version of the title song of Heartbeat (1992).
