After last season’s controversial decision to include a disgraced politician who is the target of a criminal investigation involving the attempts in 2020 to overthrow the democratically-elected President of the United States, “The Masked Singer” returns next month with a new crop of contestants — and Variety has a first look at one of the costumes.
“Bride,” the dragon-esque character as seen above, reps the first character to be introduced so far for the Season 8 of “Masked Singer.” Bride was created by costume designer Tim Chappel, who has also designed creations for the Australian version of the series.
Fox has so far not revealed any other characters. But the show is having some fun with speculation on social media (and on the Fox-owned TMZ website) that NFL superstar Tom Brady may appear on the new season, since he’s been missing from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp.

The teaser introduces celeb contestants who will perform “unique dances, while covered from head to toe in elaborate costumes and face masks, leaving audiences to guess their identities.” According to the promo, there will be “clues everywhere” to identify the mystery dancers, from their costumes to their moves. “That is the TikTok sign,” judge Ashley Tisdale says as The Tulip throws up their arms.
“Look how athletic he is,” judge Paula Abdul says as The Shark rips off their shirt.
The judges will also have the opportunity to hear the contestants say one word in their real voices, a hint that wasn’t available in the original installment.

For “The Masked Singer,” this is the way. The smash hidden celebrity music competition has just revealed another first: “Baby Alien,” a puppet character sitting in a rocket — which is all, of course, a costume for one of this season’s contestants. Not only will the celebrity behind “Baby Alien” have to sing as usual, but the person inside the costume will have to operate the puppet as well.
Take that, Baby Yoda.
Fox aired a sneak preview of “The Masked Singer” Season 4 on Sunday night, and the show revealed all 16 of this year’s costumes — including Baby Alien, Crocodile, Broccoli, Gremlin, Mushroom, Jellyfish, Whatchamacalit, Lips, Squiggly Monster, Popcorn, Sun, Dragon, Giraffe, Seahorse, Snow Owls and Serpent.
As previously announced, Snow Owls represents the first duo in competition, under a two-headed costume.

The fate of The World’s Best, CBS’ high-profile entertainment format hosted by James Corden, remains up in the air but if it did get picked up the broadcaster would “tweak the format”.
The global talent competition, which featured RuPaul Charles, Drew Barrymore and Faith Hill as judges, launched after the Super Bowl but struggled to keep hold of much of this audience over its subsequent 11 episodes.
Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment, speaking at summer TCA press tour, said that it had not made a decision whether to renew the show, which hails from reality TV heavyweights Mark Burnett and Mike Darnell.
“We really enjoyed the show creatively, we thought it was really well done, we thought James was amazing in it, the acts were fantastic and James got an Emmy nomination for it,” he said.
However, he added if it was to return, it would be a slightly different show.
