Poppy Z. Brite is one of the most successful and prolific horror
writers to emerge from the 1990's. The vast majority of her work
features blatant homosexual eroticism, references to modern gothic
culture and lush descriptions of American southern landscapes. She has
written four novels, one biography and a short novella as of 2000, but
her preference (and specialty) lies in the short story, of which
several collections have been printed in the past 10 years.
Her parents, Connie Burton brite and Robert Brite, are divorced.
Before gaining success as a writer, Poppy worked as a candymaker, a
laboratory mouse caretaker, an artist's model, a short order cook, and
a stripper.
Currently working on a new novel. Has claimed on her
official website that "an independent producer" has purchased rights to
her 1992 debut novel "Lost Souls" (Not to be confused with Winona Ryder's
2000 film).
Announced on her official site that the "Lost Souls" film
project was axed, and the film rights to the novel were on sale again.
