Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi are taking their show to the NBA.
The two WNBA stalwarts will host their first NBA game together on ESPN, bringing back a programming concept that has proven popular during the network’s coverage of the NCAA women’s final four tournament. “The Bird & Taurasi Show,” seen six times over the course of 2022 and 2023, has gained notice for the duo’s rapport and rogue energy. The program will be produced in conjunction with Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions, which is the backer of the so-called “Manning-cast” that airs alongside ESPN’s “Monday Night Football.”
The pair will call a noon game on Christmas between the Milwaukee Bucks and New York Knicks and can be seen on ESPN2 and ESPN+. Scheduled guests include Jason Sudeikis, Tyrese Haliburton and Breanna Stewart.

Some people who tune in ESPN2 for an April 6 NBA match-up between the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks may think they’ve gone back in time.
The game will open in black and white and use graphics that evoke ABC’s 1960s coverage, then shift to a look that mirrors CBS’ NBA telecasts of the 1970s and 1980s. Look for a presentation that emulates NBC’s 1990s telecasts as well, complete with that network’s signature music. Viewers may even hear a snippet of the theme from ABC’s “Wide World of Sports” before all is done. Guests will include several top players. coaches and broadcasters who have been central to the game throughout the years, all part of a tribute to the NBA’s 75th anniversary. Did you see the game? Then you probably heard Dick Stockton. The man who has called more major U.S. pro sports games for television than anyone in history announced his retirement today after 55 years in the business.
Stockton, 78, began his career at CBS in the late 1960s and spent 17 years at the network. He also covered the NBA and Major League Baseball playoffs for Turner Sports for nearly two decades and had been working at Fox Sports since 1994. The latter said he covered at least 1,545 network TV games across the big four U.S. professional sports leagues: NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL.
“Working alongside former players and coaches, many of whom are still in the Fox rotation, has been a particular joy,” Stockton said in announcing the move. “But I feel there is a time to call it a day and allow the many younger broadcasters the chance to develop their careers,...

Billy Crystal has landed his next role, but he won’t need a script this time around.
The award-winning comedian and nine-time Oscar host has been tapped to serve as color commentator for the entire Jan. 31 game between the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers and the team’s crosstown rival Lakers.
A diehard Clippers fan and courtside fixture at Staples Center since 1985, he will join Ralph Lawler during the legendary announcer’s final season on the air on Fox Sports Prime Ticket, the team’s pay-tv home.
The “Analyze This” star tells Variety that he approached the Clippers with the idea as a tribute to Lawler, whose 40 years as the voice of team he deemed “Hall of Fame worthy.” But Crystal also warned he may have trouble matching Lawler’s knack for trademark catchphrases.
“Mine are all in Yiddish, which may be difficult,” he joked to Variety.
