Making the most of every moment in New Zealand, Prince William and Kate Middleton showed up at the Viaduct Basin in Auckland for a sailing adventure today (April 11).
Joined by Dean Barker and Team New Zealand, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge looked well-rested and in good spirits despite their jam-packed schedule and the inevitable jet lag they’re experiencing with their son Prince George.
Once on the water, Kate showed her competitive side as she raced against her handsome hubby while crowds of people cheered from the shore.
Furthermore, the Prince and his lady also visited military personnel at a nearby facility with one reporter tweeting, “William and Kate have arrived at Whenuapai Air Force base."
Auckland’s mayor Len Brown told press "It’s a huge honor to welcome William and Kate to Auckland. They’re a lovely couple and great Rnz Air Force crowd here at Whenuapai.

Chances are if you grew up creepy, you owned a fair share of Garbage Pail Kids cards. I know I had a ton of these, and most of my childhood belongings were also covered in their stickers. I never got into baseball cards or the various other attempts to lure kids to collect cardboard as if they were tiny squares of heroin. However, anytime I went out shopping with my Mom and my eye spotted a box of Garbage Pail Kids, my collection would grow a little larger. If you share such fond memories of this franchise as I do, then I have the kickstarter of your dreams!

Star Trek: The Original Topps Trading Card Series
By Paula M. Block and Terry J. Erdman
216 pages, $19.95, Abrams ComicArts
Few fans today recall that Star Trek has been the focus of several trading card sets through the years, beginning with the Leaf Brands series prior to the better known Topps cards from the late 1970s, launching just prior to the first feature film. The far better card series came much later, but as a part of Abrams ComicArts’ series of books focusing on different genre sets from Topps, that series is the one receiving the focus in this attractive book.
The series, which began with Wacky Packages and has included the legendary Mars Attacks and Bazooka Joe, is a worthy examination of the oft-overlooked time capsules of earlier eras. Topps produced cards based on numerous television properties alongside their popular baseball cards since the 1950s, notably their four amazing...

T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents #1
written by Phil Hester
Art by Andrea Divito
Idw Publishing
After the well-done but under-appreciated take DC Comics did on the classic heroes from Tower Comics, I was pleased, but rather surprised that a new company had secured the rights to them so quickly. Even more pleased that it was Idw, who’s been tearing up the landscape with both exemplary and licensed titles.
The new title does the one thing I suspected they’d have to do – they started over. It takes place in a new history, where NoMan and Lightning are in action, but no other members. There’s experimentation going on in the background of issue 1 for the technology for the Undersea Agent, and dozens of candidates have tried and failed to wear the Thunderbelt. Kate “Kitten” Kane is in charge of T.H.U.N.D.E.R.

Mars Attacks • Abrams ComicArt • hardcover $19.95, also available in electronic format. Publication date: October 1, 2012
There’s a seminal moment in every weirdo’s life where we experience something so outrageous our worldview is altered severely and forever. For Ray Bradbury and Michael Moorcock, it was Edgar Rice Burroughs. For nascent Nasa scientists, it was Ray Bradbury and Buck Rogers. EC Comics begat a generation of filmmakers, satirists, and cartoonists. I have no doubt we will be appreciating the influence of The Simpsons and South Park as its early adopters enter the creative workplaces.
For me, it was Mars Attacks.
I love to collect things. I suspect if comic books were unnumbered I wouldn’t have made it to the Marvel Age. So I would dutifully check out the counter-spaces at my local drug stores to see what the Bazooka Joe boys at Topps were offering in the realm of what we now call “non-sports cards.

For us old-school horror/sci-fi fanatics out there, Mars Attacks was one of the coolest and goriest properties we've ever seen! And, no we're not talking about the Tim Burton movie.
We're talking about a new book from Abrams ComicArts to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the highly collectible cards: the first ever hardcover collection Mars Attacks!
Originally a series of science-fiction trading cards produced in 1962 by The Topps Company, the controversial cards were thought too graphic by the general public but were loved by the series’ devoted followers and were later used as inspiration for the 1996 Tim Burton movie of the same name. Depicting the gruesome invasion of Earth by Martians, the story unfolds over the course of the fifty-five cards, showing futuristic battle scenes with Martians and their cruel, often bizarre methods of attack and torture.
Mars Attacks fans will obsess over the rare and never-before-seen material (sketches,...

Idw Publishing report they have teamed with Topps to offer new comic books based on "Mars Attacks", the 'space adventure' bubblegum trading cards created in 1962, then adapted into the 1996 feature "Mars Attacks!" by director Tim Burton.
"We are excited to be partnering with Topps on this classic brand," said Greg Goldstein, Idw’s Chief Operating Officer.
"Mars Attacks" was created by Len Brown and Woody Gelman, after Brown was 'inspired' by illustrator Wally Wood's 1950's cover to EC Comics' "Weird Science" #16.
The cards were illustrated by salacious, crime pulp magazine cover illustrator Norm Saunders.
Topps revived the franchise in the mid 1990's with a second card set, comic book series and toy line.
"When looking for a comics partner for Mars Attacks, we wanted a publisher with the right creative sensibilities and an appreciation of our brand’s fifty-year legacy," said Ira Friedman, Topps/VP, Global Licensing. "There’s...
