This Blue Beetle article contains spoilers.
At the start of Blue Beetle’s second act, protagonist Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña) asks an important question: “Who the hell was Blue Beetle?”
A lot of viewers wondered the same thing when the Warner Bros. movie came to theaters earlier this year and they’ll likely be asking it again now that the movie is streaming on Max. People don’t ask that same question of Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman, but not because Blue Beetle is at best a C-lister in the DC Comics bullpen. Rather it’s because the man behind the Blue Beetle mask has changed several times since Charles Nicholas Wojtkoski debuted the character in 1939.
The big-screen adaptation introduces Blue Beetle as Jaime Reyes, who is a recent college grad forced to the superhero identity after receiving an alien scarab from Jenny Kord (Bruna Marquezine), the daughter of inventor Ted Kord,...

London, Aug 8 (Ians) Scientists have found that the hypothalamus, a key region of the brain involved in controlling appetite, is different in the brains of people who are overweight and people with obesity when compared to people who are a healthy weight.
The findings add further evidence to the relevance of brain structure to weight and food consumption.
Current estimates suggest that over 1.9 billion people worldwide are either overweight or obese. This increases an individual’s risk of developing a number of health problems, including Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke, cancer and poorer mental health.
What happens in our brains to tell us that we are hungry or full is not entirely clear, though studies have shown that the hypothalamus, a small region of the brain about the size of an almond, plays an important role.
“Although we know the hypothalamus is important for determining how much we eat,...

The eponymous team of fledgling vigilantes in The CW’s Gotham Knights has gone through a turbulent ride so far since the very first episode. After the death of Gotham’s protector, Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, his adopted son, Turner Hayes, was indicted for the crime by the secretive crime society comprising the city’s elites, named the Court of Owls. Along with Turner, genius in their respective fields yet small-time crooks Cullen, Harper Row, and Duela were also taken into custody on suspicion of Bruce Wayne’s murder, and the group escaped imprisonment thanks to Carrie Kelley, aka Robin’s interference. Later, Turner’s best friend Stephanie Brown joined the team as well, and to clear their names and bring Bruce’s killers to justice, Turner and co. resorted to vigilantism. Da Harvey Dent, best friend of Bruce Wayne, initially pursued the group but changed his stance after becoming...

After some pretty big revelations showcased in the previous episode, CW’s Gotham Knights brings the amateur team of crime fighters to the lion’s den for a final confrontation in the penultimate one. Previously, despite their wanted status, Duela and Turner went on their own to meet her deranged criminal mother, Jane Doe, who, unbeknownst to her daughter, drugs Turner by slipping pills in his drink and leaves him for authorities planning to get the bounty on his head. Turner was later saved by Cullen and brought back to the Belfry clock tower. Previously, Jane had falsified about Joker being Duela’s father so that in her absence, the supervillain’s reputation provides immunity to her daughter. In the last episode, Jane captured Harvey and revealed to Duela that he was her real father. Harvey realizes that his nefarious alter ego is responsible for this situation but is unable...

The upcoming season finale of Gotham Knights will be the last-ever episode of The CW's superhero drama.
After Gotham Knights was canceled after one season, there were questions about whether the series was being shopped to other outlets.
Showrunners James Stoteraux and Chad Fiveash have now confirmed a push to find a new home, but a deal could not be reached.
As a result, fans will be forced to say goodbye to the show on June 27, when the final episode airs.
"Since many of you have been asking about the possibility of Gotham Knights finding a new home, we wanted to let you know that, over the last few months, our producing partners at Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Discovery had been working extremely hard to get the show picked up or possibly even moved to a new network," they wrote on social media.

Sometimes the relationships we try to hold onto the most hold us back forever in the worst possible way, and it isn’t until we recognize that and decide to unshackle ourselves that we can truly be free. In this episode of CW’s Gotham Knights, the amateur crimefighters deal with some personal demons and past traumas by reevaluating their relationship with their respective parental figures, and while that may be liberating to some, others get even more entrapped in their deplorable existence.
In the previous episode, Rebecca March was revealed to be the true leader of the Court of Owls all along, as she murdered her own son, Brody, after knowing that he had learned too much about the Court from Stephanie Brown. The March couple contemplates tying up loose ends by taking care of Stephanie, and unbeknownst to Rebecca, Lincoln resurrects his dead son using the Electrum. Meanwhile,...

More often than not, the privileged ones of societal hierarchy use their nefarious instruments to keep their status quo intact and to do so, they incriminate the hapless downtrodden ones. The sixth episode of the CW’s Gotham Knights reflects on that aspect, as the titular team of amateur crime fighters learn that they weren’t the only victims of the Court of Owl’s conspiracies. In the previous episode, we saw Harvey Dent gradually sinking inside the quicksand of the Court’s schemes, and the team recovered the ledgers of the McKillen crime family, which can help them prove the Court’s involvement in Gotham’s corruption as well as clear their names in the process.

The team of amateur crimefighters discovers the fact that the worst lots of Gotham City’s criminal underbelly act as the secondary enforcers of The Court of the Owls, and Harvey Dent slips further into trouble – this time in the shackles of his own mind – in the fifth episode of CWs “Gotham Knights.” In the previous episode, we saw Harvey find the key to the deceased Mayor Hill’s limo in his pocket, and he has no recollection of the events that happened the previous night. Turner finds out about Cressida’s betrayal, and the elite members of the Court pay him a visit inside Wayne Manor. Later, with Carrie’s help, Turner barely survives the attack of Talon, who is later revealed to be Felix Harmon, a serial killer from the early 1900s who is still somehow alive. The Batman is dead. Long live … his previously unseen adopted son?
That’s the premise behind “Gotham Knights,” the CW’s latest (and last?) DC Comics-based TV series, potentially putting the pin in a remarkable 18-year run encompassing everything from “Smallville” to the expansive “Arrowverse” and the still-airing (for now) “Superman & Lois.” If this is indeed the end, it feels like a sad, destined-to-be-ignored footnote rather than a triumphant farewell.
Of course, the Dark Knight has always been a particularly sparkly gem in the DC crown, which probably accounts for why his solo exploits remain the dominion of feature films, leaving various television offerings to dig and scrape in the corners and crevices of the Batman mythos for storytelling opportunities. Just in the last 10 years we’ve gotten Batman’s city before Batman (Fox’s “Gotham”), Batman’s butler before Batman (Starz/HBO Max’s “Pennyworth”), Batman’s...

The CW's latest superhero effort begins with a thud.
A new trailer for Gotham Knights begins with Harvey Dent (Misha Collins) revealing some shocking news to Batman's son Turner (Oscar Morgan).
"It's your father," Harvey says. "He's dead."
What a hook, right?

A new trailer for Gotham Knights begins with Harvey Dent (Misha Collins) revealing some shocking news to Batman's son Turner (Oscar Morgan).
"It's your father," Harvey says. "He's dead."
What a hook, right?

While the last few weeks have seen several DC shows canceled at The CW — including Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, and Naomi — at least one new superhero series will hit the network next year: Gotham Knights. The new show follows the next generation of heroes to rise up in Gotham City after the death of Batman. Chief among these new vigilantes is Bruce Wayne’s adopted son, Turner Hayes (Oscar Morgan), who must take up his father’s mantle in order to keep his city safe from whoever is trying to frame him and a whole cavalcade of characters from the comics for Batman’s murder.
If the chance to see several characters from the Bat mythos in live-action for the first time isn’t exciting enough to get you excited, The CW has just dropped the show’s very first trailer, which promises lots of crime-fighting, a bit of Riverdale-style teen angst,...

Anna Lore has joined the “Gotham Knights” pilot at The CW.
Lore will play Stephanie Brown. Described as possessing sarcasm matched only by her intellect, Stephanie was raised on a steady diet of brain teasers and puzzles. She’s honed her skills to become a formidable coder. But her greatest talent may be hiding a less-than-perfect home life. In the DC Comics, Brown has fought crime under multiple monikers, including Spoiler, Batgirl, and Robin.
Previously announced cast members include Fallon Smythe, Tyler Dichiara, Olivia Rose Keegan, Navia Robinson, Oscar Morgan, and Misha Collins.
Based on characters created for DC by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, “Gotham Knights” takes place in in the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder. Camrus Johnson, who plays Luke Fox on CW’s Batwoman, also brought the character to the pages of Batman: Urban Legends #4 in a Batwing-focused short story. “I feel like I’m trying my best to corner the Batwing market as much as I can,” he jokes.
From the sound of things, Johnson isn’t done exploring Luke Fox in comics, teasing another Batwing project he has in the works right now.
“In the new comic that I’m writing, I actually wanted to show what his life might look like in his personal life because we don’t really get to dive into that,” he says. “That sort of influences me on the show because you don’t get to see where I am when I’m not in the Batcave, but you do get to see it in the comic books. Camrus Johnson made his “Batwoman” directing debut this week, putting him at the helm of a major moment for Wildmoore shippers. It was a moment he took just as seriously as the fans.
The end of “Broken Toys” saw Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie) and Sophie Moore (Meagan Tandy) finally give into their feelings for each other — or at least, Ryan finally gave in. Sophie was more than ready to be with her. In the final minutes of the episode, the two end up in bed together, and it was a moment that Johnson really wanted to get right.
“I have so many actor friends that have had to do scenes like this and they can be uncomfortable. So my biggest thing was no matter what, I want this to be fun, I want this to be short and I want you to enjoy it,” Johnson explained to TheWrap. “And I...

DC Comics' "Batgirls" #1, available December 14, 2021, is written by Meghan Fitzmartin, Sam Johns, Dan Watters and Tini Howard, with illustrations by Alberto Albquerque, Karl Mostert, Nikola Cizmesija, Christian Duce and covers by Jorge Corona, In-Hyuk Lee:
"...crime-fighting 'Batgirls' 'Cassandra Cain' and 'Stephanie Brown', are only able to navigate the dark, gritty and oftentimes scary city of 'Gotham' by leaning on the bright light that is their best-friendship. Mentored by 'Oracle', the Batgirls move to the other side of town where 'Barbara Gordon' can keep a better eye on them while the hacker 'Seer' is still invading their lives.
"They may be good at kicking ass, but they are just trying their best to be normal teenagers, who'll borrow the keys to a muscle car that belonged to a bad guy and perhaps give it a joyride around town then race to get back home to Oracle by curfew.

To be perfectly honest, considering everything that has happened this season, I'm not actually sure what sort of finale I was hoping for.
But Batwoman Season 2 Episode 18 served up a good dose of closure, provided ample fodder for future adventures, and tipped a [top]hat or two to memorable visuals from Batwoman Season 1.
There were the usual loose ends. What did they do with Bane, er, Tavaroff? With Alice locked away, who's going to release Safiyah from her Desert Rose dagger stasis?
Is anyone going to wonder where Roman Sionis went? Or why Kate Kane now looks like the cover girl for Janus cosmetics?
Ryan's insecurity was some of the most genuine emotions we've seen and that saying something considering everything Javicia Leslie has poured into this role.
We've always needed a hero, Gotham. But, in this moment, maybe that's not me.

It's hard to put a finger on exactly what Batwoman Season 2 Episode 15 is paving the way for, but there's definitely a multi-pronged game plan in play.
First and foremost, Luke's decision and subsequent survival are strongly reminiscent of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 6 Episode 1 when Buffy is resurrected, tearing her away from happiness in Heaven.
Will Luke remember his choice upon full recovery? Will he resent his friends for saving his life? How will that play out when he resumes his seat at the Batcave controls?
Speculation has been rampant about Luke's possible evolution into Batwing. It kind of depends on a lot of things falling into place, of course.
Batwing was trained up by Batman who not only had the physical prowess but the technological genius.
As Luke is the de facto techie on Team Batwoman, it's not like Ryan and Mary can really take on that mantle.

No. Freaking. Way.
The most horrifying moments in fiction are always rooted in bitter reality and Batwoman Season 2 Episode 14 shines a spotlight on the cruel truth of the disproportionate numbers of black men shot by law enforcement with Agent Tavaroff shooting Luke three times for pulling out his cell phone.
There's something surreal in capping a narrative that had already seen the systemic racism of the Gcpd put Ryan, Luke, and Sophie under arrest, And Tavaroff and his Crows gun down an entire church of homeless and drug addicts with the brutal shooting of a beloved character like Luke.
But it's a cold slap of reality in the Gotham cityscape. It only feels surreal because the convention of a television procedural is that bad guys don't get the last word. Or last shot.
Ryan: I'm sorry I got hated.
Sophie: We're all hated, girl. But that's how we burn it down.

Batwoman introduces us to a new villain this week, Cluemaster, and while he is nothing more than a knockoff version of Batman’s nemesis, the Riddler, he does help get the series back on track after a rough episode last week. I’m guessing Batwoman didn’t have the rights to show the Riddler character (he is mentioned though!), so they made the best with what they could. The positive is that another fan-favorite from the comics is introduced this week, which opens the possibility for another hero joining Team Batwoman in the future.
Update from last week: After several episodes of not calling the villain by his name of Black Mask and even calling him False Face, it seems the series is back to calling him Black Mask. I give up.

I admire a well-thought-out and implemented theme, and Batwoman Season 2 Episode 13 impresses with not one, not two, but Three father storylines that, ironically, aired on Mother's Day.
The other theme is that of unmasking and revelation. We get Sophie and Ryan coming clean with each other, Jacob's secret being thrust into the light, and Alice's sudden realization that "Circe" is Kate.
And yet, with all the developments in terms of long-term plots and character relationships, the highlight of the whole hour for me was Luke and Stephanie's sweet little kiss.
The kicker is that, with only five episodes left in the season, I can't imagine we'll be seeing Stephanie Brown again soon.
Ryan: So you woke up to discover you were covered in some coded message?
Stephanie: You say that like your dad doesn't write cryptograms on you while you're unconscious.

When it comes to the character of Robin, I’ve always been ready to be annoyed whenever a new kid takes over. When Dick Grayson became Nightwing so Jason Todd could become Robin, I was a bit irritated. When Jason died (though he did of course get better) , who I had come to like, and Tim Drake became Robin, I was irritated yet again. Then I found I liked Tim as well. So DC of course, on their legacy kick as they are, replaced him with Damien Wayne. Yes, I know Stephanie Brown (The Spoiler) had a little stint too, but that was always just a storyline that was going to see Tim return. So, Damien. Him I genuinely haven’t really taken to. Two years is a long time, especially for a place like Twitter that tends to have the collective memory span of a goldfish, but fans of Johnny Depp are sticking to their guns and remaining adamant that they’ll boycott Fantastic Beasts 3 when it eventually hits theaters. The last thing the Wizarding World prequel series needs is another huge drop in box office takings, but Warner Bros. would have known exactly what they were getting into when the decision was made to ask the actor to step down from his role as Grindelwald.
Almost as soon as the news of Depp’s dismissal broke, Mads Mikkelsen was installed as the frontrunner, only to deny that he was going to become the former Pirates of the Caribbean star’s replacement. But to prove that you should never take anything at face value in Hollywood, TV’s Hannibal Lecter was officially confirmed as the new Grindelwald yesterday.

Fans and supporters of Johnny Depp have reacted with outrage over the controversial decision to recast his role of Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3.
For folks not aware, Depp, having recently lost his libel case against a British tabloid, revealed that he would no longer be playing the Dark Wizard in future installments of the spinoff Harry Potter series, following Warner Bros.’ request that he stand down. The shocking revelation came earlier this month in an open letter penned by the actor, in which he also confirmed plans to appeal the unfavorable ruling handed out by the court. The Joker War rages on in Gotham, and ahead of the release of Batman: The Joker War Zone, DC shared new information about the tie-in book’s contents. Guess what that means? If you guessed “James Stokoe drawing a Clownhunter story”, please leave next Wednesday’s Powerball numbers in the comments.
The 48-page book has five announced stories. The first looks at Poison Ivy’s return to Gotham (which happened in Batman #98). It’s called “Ashes of Eden,” written by Sam Johns and drawn by Laura Braga (Harley & Ivy Meet Betty & Veronica). As you can see from the preview pages, Braga has a vaguely Amanda Conner feel to her art that should play well in such an exaggerated setting.
The second story is the aforementioned Clownhunter feature, by regular Batman writer and Joker War mastermind James Tynion IV and world renowned Xenomorph artist James Stokoe, and it’s just ridiculous.

I’ve written elsewhere that I seem to have reviewed a whole lot of these over-sized DC Special’s of late. Not a complaint, mind you, far from it. DC could have quite easily stuck out a load of old reprints and hastily cobbled together inventory stuff and put it out and a lot of people would probably have picked it up anyway. They went the other way though, and have curated a lot of nicely done tales, by a mixture of legendary creators and more recent fan favourites. The recent Flash 80 pager I reviewed was especially good. Scanning down the creator list on this Robin book, straight away names like Marv Wolfman, Devin Grayson, Tom Grummett, Dan Jurgens, and Chuck Dixon jump out. I like the fact DC try to get creators particularly associated with the different incarnations of Robin to recreate their magic.

After getting his start in comics drawing Airboy and Strike! for Eclipse Comics, Tom was poached by ComicMix contributor Robert Greenberger to become the penciler on DC Comics’ Starman with writer Roger Stern. Throughout the years, Batman has allowed for a variety of young folks to take up the mantle of Robin on the comic book side of things. Whether it be Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Carrie Kelley, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown or Damian Wayne, it goes without saying that each have a rabid fanbase to call their own.
Actually, most of those heroes I just named went on to adopt other personas such as Nightwing, Red Robin and Batgirl, but today’s discussion will center on Jason Todd, now known as the Red Hood.
Originally murdered by the Joker back in A Death in the Family during the 1980’s, the second lad to adopt the moniker of Robin was resurrected in the controversial, yet legendary, Under the Red Hood nearly twenty years later (time passes differently in comic book land). Throughout the years, Batman has given several young folks the opportunity to take up the mantle of Robin in the comics. Whether it be Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Carrie Kelley, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown or Damian Wayne, they all have supporters and a rabid fanbase backing them. If there’s one that folks have wanted to see up on the big screen perhaps more than any other, though, it’s Todd and more specifically, his persona of Red Hood.
For those unfamiliar with the character, Jason Todd was killed by the Joker back in A Death in the Family during the 1980s, before being resurrected in the controversial, yet seminal, Under the Red Hood nearly two decades later (time passes differently in comic book land). Usurping the Red Hood alias from the Clown Prince of Crime’s days predating his (more) flamboyant stage, Todd has since become one of DC’s most popular anti-heroes.

Last week it was confirmed that Robert Pattinson would be the actor to take on the role of Bruce Wayne a.k.a. Batman in Matt Reeves’ The Batman trilogy. Batman obviously won’t be alone in the movie as he is sure to be joined by several familiar characters from the comic book series.
We’ve already heard that there might be half a dozen villains in the film and that could include the likes of Catwoman, Penguin, and Riddler, just to name a few. Well, thanks to a recent report from Forbes, we’ve learned that Robin might also be showing up in the movie along with characters like Commissioner Gordon and Alfred.
While Gordon and Alfred are no surprise because they show up in every Batman adaptation, seeing Robin back up on the big screen alongside Batman would be interesting. We haven’t seen Robin and Batman...
