Melissa Gilbert had a ready answer when asked why fans of Little House on the Prairie always seem to burst into tears whenever they see her in person.
“Because I do! I think it’s just, you know … the show evokes so much emotion in people and made everybody feel,” Gilbert told the crowd Friday at the three-day Little House on the Prairie Cast Reunion and Festival in Simi Valley, CA. “So when they see us, they have the feels, and then the leftover feels from 50 years ago. Now they’re feeling it again through children and grandchildren. There’s this continuity and sense of family. This is a giant family reunion.”

Mary Ingalls actor Melissa Sue Anderson grew up in the spotlight on Little House on the Prairie. She was on the wildly popular show for seven seasons and made guest appearances in the eight. But what is she doing today, all these years later?

Anderson got the role of Mary Ingalls when she was just 11 years old. But before that, she was no stranger to acting. She’d been in various commercials and had scored roles in shows like Bewitched and The Brady Bunch.
In Little House on the Prairie, she played the character of Mary, Laura’s older sister. In the books, Mary didn’t have much of a presence. But the TV show gave the character of Mary some more meat, which Anderson is thankful for.

Former Little House On The Prairie star Sidney Greenbush has been hit by tragedy - her husband has committed suicide.
Veterinarian and horse breeder William 'Rocky' Foster shot himself in the head at the couple's Visalia, California home on 5 May.
According to America's Star magazine, Foster called Greenbush to tell her he planned to kill himself two days after the actress told him she wanted a divorce.
She called the police, but a neighbour had already discovered Foster slumped on the ground. He was taken to hospital but died soon afterwards.
Greenbush, who shared the role of Carrie Ingalls in the hit show with the twin sister Lindsay, had been married to Foster for nine years.
She had only recently quit acting to devote her time to the horse ranch she shared with Foster.
A friend tells the Star, "Even with all their problems, I know she cared so deeply for her husband."...

In the current age of modern action series like Heroes, its hard to believe that a simple show like Little House on the Prairie was once a mainstay of the NBC Monday night schedule. The series ran for nine successful seasons on the peacock network and starred Michael Landon, Karen Grassle, Melissa Gilbert, Melissa Sue Anderson and Lindsay and Sidney Greenbush. Landon was a co-executive producer of the series and directed many of the episodes.
Based loosely on the books by best-selling author Laura Ingalls Wilder (1867-1957), the series told the story of the pioneer Ingalls family and friends as they mad thie life in 1800s frontier Minnesota. One of the joys of the series was in watching young Melissa Gilbert as Laura grow through her early childhood into a mature teacher and mother. Now, 24 years after the series went off the air, Gilbert is returning to Little House on the Prairie.
