A few years ago the editors of Shadowlocked asked me to compile a list of what was initially to be, the ten greatest movie matte paintings of all time. A mere ten selections was too slim by a long shot, so my list stretched considerably to twenty, then thirty and finally a nice round fifty entries. Even with that number I found it wasn’t easy to narrow down a suitably wide ranging showcase of motion picture matte art that best represented the artform. So with that in mind, and due to the surprising popularity of that 2012 Shadowlocked list (which is well worth a visit, here Ed), I’ve assembled a further fifty wonderful examples of this vast, vital and more extensively utilised than you’d imagine – though now sadly ‘dead and buried’ – movie magic.
It would of course be so easy to simply concentrate on the well known, iconic,...

We’re back with the latest edition of the Indie Spotlight. Today’s feature includes a zombie short film, a new trailer for Cell Count, independent genre comics, zombie soap, and more.
Zombie Short Film “Spoiler”: You’ve seen Daniel Thron’s visual effects work on Zodiac, Tron: Legacy, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and many other films. He has also written and directed a short film which we have for you to watch:
“Ten years ago, a zombie-like infection almost tore our society apart — but the Cdc managed to bring it under control and in the process created a massive national infrastructure to prevent future outbreaks. Over time, the world has returned to near-normal — but people still live in fear; and many pay to live in ‘protected’ complexes, designed to quarantine and resolve any outbreak.
Coroner Tommy Rossman has one job — determine the strain,...

Sometimes I stumble upon information about movies by complete accident. This is one of those cases. Call it a happy accident. Why? Because the sight of a slasher movie called Panman about a maniac with a pot on his head decapitating cooking students with a frying pan makes me happy for some reason.
The self-described "passion project" of filmmaker Tim Pilleri, Panman is an offbeat horror comedy with a hint of romance about culinary students being stalked and killed by a mysterious killer called the Panman. A mysterious killer dressed in black with a pot on its head wielding either a frying pan or a butcher's knife. And you thought Gordon Ramsay was a killer in the kitchen.
Panman stars G. Larry Butler (Frankenstein vs. the Creature from Blood Cove), Talia Tabin, Tina Molina, Craig Frank, and Tim Pilleri as the titular killer.
