In a world where feature film adaptations of hit TV shows are extremely common, a film like Andrew Davis' "The Fugitive" might not look all that unusual, at least at a glance. The 30-year-old film, based on one of the highest-rated television series in history, was a "wrong man" thriller in the classic Hitchcockian mold, starring one of the industry's most successful action heroes, Harrison Ford. It's got a series of thrilling set pieces with epic stunts and derring-do. The director also wasn't a festival darling — he was a genre guy whose biggest claim to fame before "The Fugitive" was two Steven Seagal movies.
"The Fugitive" was financially successful, and even the contemporary reviews were good. But if you haven't seen it — or if you haven't seen it lately — you could be forgiven for wondering why "The Fugitive" wasn't just a hit, but was also nominated for the Academy Award...

When Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert sat down at the end of 1993 to pick their 10 favorite movies of the year, they largely selected prestige, Oscar-bait films like The Piano, The Age of Innocence, The Joy Luck Club, and Schindler’s List. They skipped nearly all of the big multiplex hits of the year, including Jurassic Park, Sleepless in Seattle, and Mrs. Doubtfire, making an exception only for The Fugitive. It’s an honor they didn’t give to Die Hard in 1988, The Terminator in 1984, Aliens in 1986, or many other great action movies of the VHS era.

Lost fans are preparing to go back.

The film, titled Getting Lost, will tell the entire story of how Lost became the biggest cult show on the planet, generating intense fan discussion and theories on the internet throughout its six seasons on air.
Getting Lost is also set to address – and hopefully put to bed – the furore surrounding the show’s finale, which has gone down in history as one of the most misunderstood endings of all time.
Find The Independent’s deep dive on the finale, featuring words from co-showrunner Damon Lindelof, Henry Ian Cusick (Desmond) and L Scott Caldwell (Rose), here.

Bingo Hell is a movie directed by Gigi Saul Guerrero starring young upstarts called Adriana Barraza, Richard Brake, L. Scott Caldwell and Bertila Damas among other promising cast members.
The screenplay was written together by Shane McKenzie, Gigi Saul Guerrero and Perry Blackshear. And, apparently, they had a blast writing this.
Plot
Some seniors live a peaceful life caring for their community and spending hours playing bingo until things change: a new owner, with greater and more infernal prizes has arrived at the district to change the way this entertainment is experienced from now on.
About the Movie Bingo Hell (2021)
I was recommended this film as one of the worst films to write about and I will disagree: Bingo Hell is infernal entertainment, and very well made visually (at least the choices they have made). It is tacky, kitsch or whatever you want to call it, it has a neon...

Kerry Washington, Zoë Kravitz, Rosario Dawson, Don Cheadle and Niecy Nash-Betts were among the 160,000 SAG-AFTRA members who urged Congress to pass the Crown Act, which prohibits discrimination based on hair style and texture.
In a strongly worded letter sent to the U.S. Senate, SAG-AFTRA encouraged Congress to pass the bill, as it is an essential step to making all workplaces safe for people of color, and it is consistent with the Guild’s efforts to advance equity and inclusion in the media and entertainment industry.

Amanda Mackey, the casting director behind such films as Best Picture Oscar nominee The Fugitive and A League of Their Own and who earned an Emmy nom for The Normal Heart during a nearly four-decade career, has died. She was 70.
Her longtime friend and business partner Cathy Sandrich Gelfond told Deadline that Mackey died August 27 in her sleep of myelodysplastic syndrome, a form of blood cancer, at Calvary Hospital in Brooklyn.
“Amanda was a singular force — fiercely intelligent, impeccably stylish, wildly passionate about ideas, the state of the world and her work,” Sandrich Gelfond told Deadline. “She loved her daughters profoundly and was an unwaveringly steadfast friend and champion in a time when women weren’t as supportive to other women as they are now. She believed in me, lifted me up and gave me a career. She was the sister I never had and changed my life in countless ways.

The made-for-tv movie was a programming staple for the broadcast networks in the 1970s and 1980s. While it fell out of favor in the 1990s and was even dropped as an Emmy Awards category for three years beginning in 2011, it has been on an upswing as of late. This year, 48 telefilms are in contention for the five nominations that will be revealed on July 12; last year, only 41 TV movies were submitted.
All 22,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 27 to cast their 2022 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for their favorite TV movies. In the past, voters were limited in the number of telefilms that they could put forth. In 2017, that cap (which was usually 10 per category) was lifted. And, as opposed to the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.

Leonard Robinson has a warm and inviting smile, but that’s something fans of Insecure haven’t been able to see, because his character Taurean is always scowling.

Condola Rashad considers herself a casual admirer of HBO’s hit comedy series Insecure. She’s watched it now and again and thinks it is funny. And then series co-creator Issa Rae named a character after the Billions star, and things started getting a little weird on social media.
Fans of the show from the #LawrenceHive and #IssaHive got so angry at the end of Season 4 when it was revealed that the show’s Condola (played by Twenties‘ Christina Elmore) was pregnant with Lawrence’s baby, they started tweeting horrible things about “Hating Condola.”

Fans of Insecure know more about Molly’s parents and siblings than the families of any other character on the popular HBO sitcom. It’s a familiarity that will matter as Season 5 progresses, says L. Scott Caldwell, who has played Molly’s mom CeeCee for four seasons.
For instance, in Sunday’s Episode 2, Molly (Yvonne Orji) scolded her parents for not meeting with an estate planner. By the installment’s end, however, Molly called her mother and apologized for being so stern.

For years, Insecure‘s Issa and Molly have bonded over their favorite television shows — but not anymore.
It all started with the prison reality show Conjugal Visits in Season 1. That was followed by the slavery miniseries Due North in Season 2. Next came a Martin-style sitcom called Kev’yn, headlined by comedian Bill Bellamy, in Season 3. And most recently there was Looking for Latoya, a true-crime docuseries (and companion podcast) about a missing Black woman, in Season 4.

The greatest love story on Insecure isn’t between Issa and Lawrence — despite the desires of some fans who would love to see them together again.
No, it’s the bond between Issa and her bestie Molly that matters the most, and that’s why their fight and breakup in Season 4 hurt so much. But that’s water under the bridge now, because these two have always lifted each other up — especially when no one else would. This certainly was the case in Sunday night’s installment of the HBO comedy titled “Growth, Okay?”

One of the lesser-sung items among umpteen offbeat little ’70s movies was Larry Yust’s “Homebodies.” That 1974 black comedy on the cusp of horror was about a community of frail old retirees who turn out to be surprisingly vigorous — even homicidal — in defending their homes from the callous forces of market-driven “progress.” A similar premise is the starting point for “Bingo Hell,” which alongside “Black as Night” kicks off the second quartet of genre features premiering under the “Welcome to the Blumhouse” umbrella on Amazon Prime. This first full-length solo directorial project for Gigi Saul Guerrero exchanges the Cincinnati grit of “Homebodies” for the hotter palette of a Southern California desert town.
The comedy and horror elements get amped up as well — maybe too much so. In any case, what starts out looking like another caustic commentary on gentrification at the expense of the elderly soon takes a turn into half-baked Stephen King territory,...

Yaya DaCosta addressed her shocking departure from NBC’s Chicago Med after six seasons and whether or not her role in Fox’s Our Kind of People from executive producer Lee Daniels played a role in her decision.
“My exit from Chicago Med and the arrival of this show happened really simultaneously. There isn’t much to say about it. There was a window opening and a question mark as to whether I should stay or go,” said DaCosta during the show’s TCA panel on Wednesday. “And in that window, I fell in love with Our Kind of People and I jumped at the opportunity to work with Lee Daniels again. Audra McDonald is the most lauded Broadway performer winning a whopping six Tony Awards in both musical and dramatic categories. And she may be receiving her seventh for the revival of “Frankie and Johnny in the Clair du Lune” when the 74th annual Tonys take place Sept. 26th at the venerable Winter Garden Theatre.
Despite that record, it took a long time for Black artists to be acknowledged by the Tonys, which were first handed out in 1947. It wasn’t until 2004 that a Black actress won for a lead performance in a play: Phylicia Rashad broke this barrier with her win for a revival of Lorraine Hansberry’s “A Raisin in the Sun.” Hansberry was the first Black artist to be nominated for Best Play in 1960 for the original production of “A Raisin in the Sun” as were its director Lloyd Richards and stars, Sidney Poitier and Claudia McNeil.

While Lucifer dealt with his own struggles during the first half of Season 5, the demon Mazikeen spiraled into her own private Hell, discovering among other things that her mother, Lilith, has been living on Earth for decades — and that the Devil himself knew.
That bombshell, coupled with wounds still to be licked over not being invited back to Hell, and her seemingly hopeless search for a soul, led Maze to be arguably as ferocious as ever, ultimately allying with Lucifer’s twin brother, Michael, in the midseason finale’s super-celestial clash.

It only took a few weeks of social distancing to make the world that existed before Covid-19 feel absurdly out of reach. After building new routines of donning face masks and frantically wiping down precious groceries, a reality with dive bars, concerts and dinner parties becomes more and more abstract, not to mention painful to recall. Watching “Love in the Time of Corona” feels just as disorienting as that, but for the early days of quarantine in which sourdough bread reigned supreme and there was some vague hope that All of This might be over sooner rather than later. Filmed and set in the first months of the pandemic, Freeform’s new miniseries focuses on four households grinning and bearing it through the beginning of our new normal. Without enough time and retrospect to give its stories more depth — we are, after all, nowhere near beyond the scope of this...
