I don’t know if Dark Horse is actually trying to adapt every last bit of short Neil Gaiman into comics form. He’s written a lot of stuff, and much of it wouldn’t adapt well. But it does feel like they’re trying, at least, with a long sequence of individual graphic novels and a few omnibuses stretching back more than a decade.
The grandly titled “Neil Gaiman Library” has mostly been stories that can turn into reasonable-length books. I’ve seen a bunch of them: A Study in Emerald ; Only the End of the World Again ; Chivalry ; Snow, Glass, Apples ; and Troll Bridge . But not all Gaiman stories can be fit into that length, no matter how hard Procrustes works.
So in 2019 we got The Problem of Susan and Other Stories , which includes adaptations of the title story, another short story, and two poems. Presumably, with this as a model,...

We asked our writers to recommend graphic novels that deserved more fanfare, and here's what they chose...
Geek tastes running tall and wide, when we asked our writers to recommend favourite books that they felt hadn't received the levels of popularity or public recognition they deserved, in came a heap of suggestions. Too many for one piece, hence us dividing the entries into four separate lists: adult sci-fi, fantasy and horror fiction; graphic novels; children's/Ya fiction; and non-fiction.
We'll let you use the power of your eyeballs to see which one of those lists you're currently reading. And in the spirit of the piece, hope you'll join in by providing your own suggestions to keep the recommendations coming in the comments section. Sharing: it's what makes geek communities great.

Dark Horse Comics has paired with Universal Cable Productions to produce at least four comic book TV shows, including Umbrella Academy…
Will we ever be finished updating our list of upcoming comic book TV shows? Probably not, and today we have four more to add to the roster. This is due to Dark Horse Comics’ decision to sign a first-look deal with Universal Cable Productions.
Under this new alliance, four new shows have been put straight into development: Cullen Bunn and Tyler Crook's Harrow County; Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba's The Umbrella Academy (previously touted to be a film); Paul Chadwick's Concrete; and, an adaptation of Tom Vaughn’s feature script Back Up. That last one's the anomaly, seeing as no Dark Horse comics under that title have been published, yet.
Here are the official descriptions of these new projects, from the official press bumf…

Dark Horse Comics is teaming up with Universal Cable Productions to adapt some of their library comic titles for television. The first batch of comics set to get the small screen treatment will include the following titles:
The Umbrella Academy: Created by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way, the comic follows the reunion of the estranged members of a dysfunctional family of superheroes with bizarre powers who must now save the world.
Harrow County: Based on Cullen Bunn's just published work, the story follows a teenage girl who learns she is connected to the sinister woodland creatures that populate the dark woods surrounding her home because she is the reincarnation of a witch who died the day she was born.
Back Up: Based on a film script by Tom Vaughn, the story is set in a near future where technology allows people to be backed up, much like hard drives,...

“The Day the Saucers Came”
in Dark Horse Presents #21 (2013)
Words by: Neil Gaiman
Art by: Paul Chadwick
Letters by: Gaspar Saladino
First published in 2006’s Fragile Things, Neil Gaiman’s (Sandman, American Gods) “The Day the Saucers Came” creates a succinctly symphonic orchestration of the terrors of omission and commission that bedevil and bestir the aching hearts of pop cultists everywhere. There are so many ways for the world to end (at least in theory), and so very few chances for life to truly begin. Gaiman’s short poem takes that fundamental insight and runs amok with it, leading its readers on a melancholically merry chase through a Disney-esque “Apocalypseland” before settling into its snug (and undeniably smug) coda. Riffs on this much-loved piece abound across the internet – but Concrete artist/creator Paul Chadwick’s version promises to become the definitive visual interpretation.
From its Ed-Wood-meets-Jack Kirby opening splash to its sick-day-in-hipsterland finale,...

The Guardian has quietly launched its Australian edition.
Australian-based visitors to the site are now being automatically redirected to the home page of the British publication’s new Australian edition.
The move does not yet appear to signal a full launch for the site. Most content is bylined to Alison Rourke, a Sydney-based journalist who has written for The Guardian since 2010.
The paper confirmed its launch of an Australian edition a fortnight ago with backing from entrepreneur Grame Wood. Katharine Viner, who is leading the project, said in the announcement that it would be launching later this year.
The ABC’s outgoing director of editorial policies Paul Chadwick is to be a director of The Guardian Australia. This week The Australian reported that three other journalists will be hired.
The Australian edition is the third version of The Guardian’s website. Along with its main UK version there is also a Us edition.

Huncoat United have won their first football match after five years and 94 defeats. The Lancashire under-15s side had failed to win a game until its 2-0 victory over Brierfield Celtic in the Accrington and District Junior Football League on January 12. I joined in and so did the parents." He added: "I don't think they're world beaters just yet." Reece Hunt and Leon Pascoe scored for Huncoat United, while Charles Lucas kept (more)...

Dark Horse Comics has made a name for itself with great creator-owned projects like "Sin City" and the "Hellboy" comics, but way back in 1986 the publisher kicked things off with "Dark Horse Presents," an anthology series that went on to become the publisher's longest running title and many readers' first introduction to some of the industry's most celebrated creators.
In April, the publisher will relaunch "Dark Horse Presents" for a new generation of readers, kicking things off yet again with a mix of new and established creators — and one particular project that comic book movie fans will want to take note of. Veteran writer/artist Frank Miller will offer a sneak peek at "Xerxes," the sequel to "300," in the first issue of "Dark Horse Presents."

The Story: "Concrete" by Paul Chadwick (W/A) - Dark Horse Comics
What It's About: "Concrete" is a high-concept alien abduction story that leaves its hero, Ronald Lithgow, stranded on Earth after aliens transplant his brain into a hulking new body. Incapable of normal human interaction and unable to seek revenge against the aliens who kidnapped and brutalized him, he takes on the name Concrete and becomes a celebrity adventurer under the cover story that he is a cyborg government experiment.
One of the best lasting indie comics series to come out of the '80s, it takes the heart of Ben Grimm's Thing situation in "The Fantastic Four" and isolates Concrete in a role that forces him to find meaning and pleasure in life without ever being able to be accepted as human by those around him.

With its host of hobbits, giant gorillas, zombies and ghosts, filmmaker Peter Jackson's resume reads like a veritable directory of comic book archetypes. And yet, somehow there hasn't been a superhero blockbuster to date with his name in the credits.
MTV News sat down with the "District 9" producer to discuss why he's never made a superhero film, and ended up learning which franchise currently has Jackson most excited.
"The only superhero project I've ever been involved in was many, many years ago when we wrote a script for 'Concrete' for Dark Horse [Comics]," recalled Jackson. "That never happened, but I thought our script was kind of fun and [it's] still sitting on somebody's shelf."
Even though adapting Paul Chadwick's "Concrete" never solidified, Jackson definitely doesn't seem against the idea of doing a comic book movie—he is, after all, producing an adaptation of Herge's "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn,...
