Exclusive: The ancient Scottish town of St Andrews was hit with a heavy bout of Spidey fever this past weekend as the third annual Sands International Film Festival opened, pulling in an eclectic set of films, filmmakers, and speakers alongside one popular guest of honor.
Spider-Man actor Tom Holland, also known for The Impossible, Cherry, and The Devil All the Time passed through the fest, which opened with a screening of Last Call, a short project he leads with Lindsay Duncan (Blackbird) that was co-written and directed by his brother, Harry Holland. The Holland brothers also took part in the first annual Sands golf tournament, which will continue as part of the festival’s wider activities. It was on the pristine golfing greens where Tom linked up with Deadline to discuss his career so far and plans for future projects, including whether he will return for a fourth Spider-Man movie.

Ingrid Michaelson is used to people crying when they talk to her about The Notebook. Earlier this year, she tells me on Zoom, her piano in the background, she did an interview about her work on the Broadway musical adaptation of the beloved 2004 film, based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks. The journalist she was talking to had lost both of his parents, and Michaelson had lost her parents as well — her mother in 2014, and her father three years later. “We both were staring at each other for like 30 seconds...

Jeff Ryan, Scott Cohen, Katerina Tannenbaum, Geneva Carr and Will Chase will star in “Mooch.” The crime comedy was also written and directed by Ryan, whose credits include “Mean Spirited” and “YouthMin.”
The filmmakers received an interim agreement to work on this independent production during last year’s SAG-Afrtra strike. It recently wrapped production in Lexington, Mass.
The movie focuses on a 30-year-old caddy named Shane (Ryan), who winds up with an unexpected gig as a personal private eye for a New Jersey nightclub owner. Even though he inches closer to realizing his ambitions, his personal life spirals out of control.
“When I was in high school, my friend’s dad told me I was going to fail in life because I was a ‘Mooch,’” said Ryan. “Making this film was a dream come true, and I am proud to put my dirty laundry on screen for all to enjoy.

In an upcoming episode of Bosch: Legacy Season Two, private investigator Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch (Titus Welliver) asks a favor of a couple of colleagues from his days as an LAPD homicide detective. Their exchange is terse and extremely one-sided in favor of the self-righteous Bosch. As he walks away, Christina Vega (Jacqueline Obradors) mutters, “Same old Bosch.”
“Same old Bosch” might as well be the actual title of Bosch: Legacy, which is among the least spinoff-y of spinoffs ever made(*). It brings back the hero of Bosch as its main character.

Harry Bosch will tackle his most personal case yet in Bosch: Legacy Season 2. The Amazon Freevee series returns on Oct. 20, picking up after the cliffhanger season 1 ending that saw Harry’s daughter (and rookie cop) Maddie apparently kidnapped by the screen-cutter rapist.
Finding out what happened to Maddie will be a central thread in the upcoming episodes of the Bosch spinoff. The new season will also pick up some lingering threads from season 1, including more developments in the ongoing saga of crooked financier Carl Rogers. Here’s where we left Harry, Maddie, and Honey Chandler at the end of season 1.

[This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Crowded Room Season 1, Episode 9, “Family.”] The Crowded Room is nearing the end of its run at Apple TV+, and as fans await to see the fate of Danny Sullivan (Tom Holland), star Emmy Rossum is addressing his mom Candy’s decisions in the penultimate episode, “Family.” While Danny’s trial continued, Candy finally showed her face in court after being asked by his lawyer Stan (Christopher Abbott) and psychologist Rya (Amanda Seyfried). At first, she’s apprehensive about participating, afraid of the backlash she’ll face from her abusive husband Marlin (Will Chase) and the judgment she’d experience from onlookers, but little by little, she was seemingly swayed to take a definitive stand in support of her son. (Credit: Apple TV+) Sadly, it all fell apart when Marlin found her out and showed up at court the same day she intended ...

Actor Tom Holland recently appeared in the Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room and spoke out on the show’s critics and the value of mental health and treatment.
Tom Holland is one of the heartthrobs whose depiction of Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has brought him great recognition. He will next be seen in his most recent film, The Crowded Room, even though people are anticipating his fourth solo Spider-Man movie.
Unfortunately, the show received some terrible reviews. The actor finally spoke up after accepting the criticism and promoting the show at an event.
Before The Crowded Room, Holland’s career was mainly a string of prominent successes. Due to his celebrity status, his presence in the Uncharted movie outperformed the box office, except for his Spider-Man film.
However, his latest Apple TV+ mini-series needs to capture fans like his previous works. Critics have expressed dissatisfaction...

Spoiler Alert: This review contains spoilers from “The Crowded Room.”
Over 20 years ago, screenwriter Akiva Goldsman penned the script for “A Beautiful Mind,” the Oscar-winning biopic of mathematician and diagnosed schizophrenic John Nash. To convey Nash’s subjective experience of his condition, “A Beautiful Mind” pulled a bait-and-switch. Early in the film, we meet Nash’s college roommate, who becomes his lifelong friend; later, it’s revealed the roommate was a figment of Nash’s imagination. At the time, the twist was effective enough to earn Goldsman an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
The limited series “The Crowded Room,” created by Goldsman for Apple TV+, attempts the same trick to greatly diminished returns. A simple Wikipedia search shows that “The Crowded Room” was inspired by Billy Milligan, the first defendant acquitted by invoking a case of dissociative identity disorder in the late 1970s. But ahead of the show’s release,...

What restricts and ultimately fells “The Crowded Room” isn’t just one poor decision. Far too long and visually repetitive, the 10-episode limited series starring Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried doesn’t have the dramatic heft needed to justify its length, nor is its narrative crafted carefully enough to build proper momentum. Holland’s lead performance is solid, though irreparably hampered by the story’s structure, and Seyfried’s is a tad sharper, though that could be because she’s able to do more with less. Its message — which I can’t even get into for reasons I’ll divulge shortly — is significant and stirring, which makes you wish how it’s conveyed was that much stronger.
But there is a key creative decision that connects all these hang-ups; a choice so frustrating before it’s understood and exasperating once it’s explained that you can’t help but wish...

Perhaps it’s only fitting that I’m of two minds about The Crowded Room on Apple TV+, an ultimately haunting limited series inspired by Daniel Keyes’ The Minds of Billy Milligan. The psychological puzzle begins when troubled youth Danny (a pitch-perfect Tom Holland) is involved in a shooting incident in midtown Manhattan in 1979. It’s clear that Danny has issues: social anxiety at school, an abusive bully of a stepdad (Will Chase), repressed childhood trauma. We learn early on that Danny’s unhappy home life, where he’s unable to protect himself or his unhappily submissive nurse mother (a heartbreaking Emmy Rossum), has led him to move into a neighboring building known by locals as the “ghost house,” where he rooms with the mysterious and alluring Ariana (Sasha Lane) and the brutish Yitzak (Lior Raz). The frustration I have with series creator Akiva Goldsman‘s (A Beautiful Mind) empathetic...

When TV critics are given screeners of upcoming series, the episodes are often accompanied by a letter from the showrunner asking us to not reveal certain plot points. Sometimes, these requests are eminently reasonable: Succession creator Jesse Armstrong didn’t want us telling our readers about the big thing that happened in this season’s third episode, and didn’t want us even hinting that it was a notable installment in any way, so that viewers would be as gobsmacked by it as we were. Sometimes, they are just silly,...

Tom Holland announced in a recent video interview with Extra that he is taking the next year off from acting following the strenuous production of his new Apple TV+ crime thriller “The Crowded Room.” The series stars Holland as Danny Sullivan, who is arrested in summer 1979 due to his involvement in a shooting at Rockefeller Center. The show is based on the real crimes of Billy Milligan, who was diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder.
“It was a tough time, for sure,” Holland told Extra about the show’s production. “We were exploring certain emotions that I have definitely never experienced before. And then on top of that, being a producer, dealing with the day-to-day problems that come with any film set, just added that extra level of pressure.”

The opening minutes of Apple TV+’s The Crowded Room suggest a thriller.
In 1979 New York, a disturbed young man, Danny (Tom Holland), and his agitated companion, Ariana (Sasha Lane), open fire near Rockefeller Center. When only Thomas is captured — Ariana having disappeared without a trace — the cop in charge of his case (Thomas Sadoski) practically salivates at the idea that they might have nailed a serial killer.
But his colleague, Rya (Amanda Seyfried), isn’t so sure. Over long conversations with Danny, now in prison awaiting his trial date, she begins to weave together a picture of his life — how he got to where he is, why he did what he did. As his truth is revealed, The Crowded Room pivots from gritty crime drama to something altogether sadder and more sentimental, with unfortunately mixed results.
Part of the issue is simply that The Crowded Room, created by Akiva Goldsman,...

Emmy Rossum and Tom Holland play mother-son in Apple TV+’s The Crowded Room. The Shameless alum is opening up about being cast in the role while only being 10 years older than the Super-Man star.
“It makes sense when I read the script,” Rossum told Entertainment Tonight. “Candy’s a super young mom, she’s almost a child in her own right when she becomes pregnant at age 16. You watch as I age from 25 to 35, which is actually younger than I am now.”
Rossum is 36 years old while Holland is 27 in real life. One thing that drew Rossum to playing the role of Candy was “the relationship between mother and son and the closeness and everything that they’re grieving in later episodes.”

Tom Holland is harnessing his multifaceted talent to portray a mentally ill criminal in the Apple TV+ series “The Crowded Room.”
Inspired by the crimes of real-life rapist Billy Milligan, the limited series is created by Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman (“A Beautiful Mind”), who serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Milligan was arrested for raping three women on the Ohio State University campus in 1979.
“The Crowded Room” similarly centers on fictional figure Danny Sullivan (Holland), who is arrested after his involvement in a New York City shooting in 1979. The thriller limited series is told through a series of interviews between interrogator Rya Goodwin (Amanda Seyfried) and Danny, charting his own past traumas. The 10-episode series co-stars Sasha Lane, Emmy Rossum, Christoper Abbott, Will Chase, Lior Raz, and Henry Eikenberry.
Lead star Holland previously described the series as “an insight into the power of the human mind” during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Is it just me or this room feeling a little ... crowded? Thankfully, that's not a line of dialogue ever spoken in the trailer for this upcoming Apple TV+ series, but it certainly could apply to the long-winded development of this project. Originally conceived as a James Cameron movie with John Cusack rumored to be in the lead back in the 1990s before Leonardo DiCaprio took a short-lived swing at it in 2015, "The Crowded Room" is now finally coming to a small screen near you as an Apple TV+ drama series. In place of Cusack or DiCaprio, however, viewers will now get to see a mop-haired Tom Holland in the lead role as the prime suspect of a series of disappearances.
Set in late 1970s New York (hence the "Spider-Man" actor's rather unflattering hair), the investigation at the center of "The Crowded Room" pits Amanda Seyfried's interrogator Rya Goodwin directly...

This year, 47 players — three of them played by Olivia Welch, Mike Faist and Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut — will compete for the biggest pot ever. All of them will be changed. Only one will win.
