Paramount is making another effort to make Star Trek 4 happen, with The Flight Attendant writer Steve Yockey behind the script.
Eight years on from Star Trek: Beyond, Paramount and Bad Robot are still trying to get a sequel together that reunites the series’ cast, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Karl Urban
The name behind this latest attempt is screenwriter Steve Yockey, who’s best known for TV series The Flight Attendant – a comedy murder mystery starring Kaley Cuoco. Yockey also wrote episodes of Supernatural and the Scream TV spin-off series.
Nothing else is known about the project at present, though Variety reports that Paramount hopes to get the core cast first established in 2009’s Star Trek, which also includes Zoe Saldana and John Cho. The glaring exception will of course be Anton Yelchin, who tragically passed away in 2016.

It has been 8 years since the last Star Trek movie, Star Trek Beyond, graced the big screen. Ever since, while there have been several TV shows and more on the way, the futuristic space franchise has not returned to the big screen despite the announcement of a sequel before the release of the third movie.
A still from Star Trek Beyond
Its loyal and huge fanbase has thus been eagerly waiting, hoping to see the cast of the rebooted saga once again. While negotiations with actors and writers have been broken several times before, the inclusion of Steve Yockey as the new screenwriter has created a significant buzz. And Paramount still hopes that the sequel to Beyond will be the last film of the rebooted movie series featuring its original cast.

Star Trek 4 gets new screenwriter for "final chapter" of Kirk's crew after 8-year hiatus. J.J. Abrams' alternate timeline Enterprise team may reunite in long-awaited upcoming movie. Promising news for fans as Steve Yockey pens the new script, signaling potential return to big screen.
Star Trek 4 may finally take flight as a new screenwriter is penning what is billed as "the final chapter" of the Starship Enterprise crew led by Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk. The J.J. Abrams-produced and Justin Lin-directed Star Trek Beyond was the last Star Trek movie to hit theaters in the summer of 2016. Now 8 years later, this is the longest time there hasn't been a Star Trek movie in theaters since Star Trek: The Motion Picture launched Gene Roddenberry's 1960s TV series as a film franchise in 1979.

There's more "Star Trek" television right now that Trekkies know what to do with. Whether you prefer it when the franchise is philosophical yet whimsical in the manner of Gene Roddenberry's original ground-breaking series ("Strange New Worlds"), a mix of raunchy humor and emotionally mature sci-fi storytelling ("Lower Decks"), or embracing a "warm, flashy, 'heart dangling on the sleeve with such force that you might as well brace for an aerial spray' ethos" (as /Film's own Jacob Hall put it in his review of the "Discovery" season 5 premiere), there's something for "Trek" enthusiasts of ever shade right now -- again, on the small screen. Unfortunately, if you enjoy it when the property stretches its wings and takes flight in theaters, you've been plumb out of luck since 2016.

In trying to chronicle the times we were living a decade ago, a new sitcom dealing with the impact of social media was released on ABC. Selfie, from Suburgatory creator Emily Kapnek, put Karen Gillan’s Eliza Dooley, a social media addict, in the way of John Cho’s Henry Higgs, in an attempt to shake off her superficiality and make her a better person. Selfie was many things: a satire, a journey of self-discovery, an adaptation of My Fair Lady/Pygmalion, a workplace sitcom, a romantic comedy, and – probably its dooming quality – ahead of its time. The show’s broadcast was abruptly cut short because of dwindling ratings. The remaining episodes were dumped on Hulu and the 13-episode first season turned out to be the complete series run. It joins the one-season (or two) cancelled-too-soon roster where we can find comedy gems like Don't Trust the B**** in Apartment 23,...

In 2005, actor George Takei, speaking to Frontiers magazine, described his coming out process, noting that revealing his sexuality had to be, at that late date, a political act. Speaking anecdotally, many Trekkies had known for years that Takei was gay, even though he had never had a public coming out moment. After announcing himself, Takei became an outspoken queer rights activist, speaking at public events and spreading queer news online. Sometimes his activism was even fun and cheeky; for a while, one could go to Takei's website and order rainbow t-shirts that read "That's So Takei."
Takei didn't appear in Justin Lin's 2016 film "Star Trek Beyond," as actor John Cho had taken over his 1966 role of Hikaru Sulu with the release of J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" in 2009. In January of 1999, two teen movies opened back to back and kicked off what would be one of the most extraordinary years for youth-oriented movies in the history of Hollywood. Both were No. 1 at the box office their first weekend. Both boasted remarkable casts of rising stars — they even shared a star in Paul Walker. And both whipped ancient genre conventions into new combinations that made them fresh and new. Yet for all their similarities, “Varsity Blues” and “She’s All That” couldn’t have been more different: one an R-rated sports drama that tempered its inspirational coming-of-age drama with surprisingly harsh depictions of misogyny and physical and mental abuse, the other a sweet, good-natured romantic comedy nearly as innocent as a Mickey Rooney-Judy Garland vehicle from the 1940s. In their similarities and differences lies the key to why 1999 was such a great year for movies of their type — the 1939 of teen movies.

The 1999 coming-of-age comedy "American Pie" was a massive hit when it was released in 1999. Starring a who's-who of upcoming teen talent, "American Pie" delved deeply into the more embarrassing sexual details of being an adolescent boy in the modern day. There were scenes involving bodily fluids, oral sex, and multiple references to creative masturbation. While the bulk of the film -- written by Mike Herz and directed by Paul Weisz -- prided itself on aggressive raunchiness, it wisely ended on a sweet note, allowing the characters to realize that despite having had sex, they still have a lot to look forward to on their journey of growing up.
For a while in the early 2000s, Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Mena Suvari, Shannon Elizabeth, Seann William Scott, Thomas Ian Nicholas, and Natasha Lyonne were household names largely because of the "American Pie" movies. To date, the series has made $990 million.

Co-chaired by Quinta Brunson and Bob Odenkirk, the annual event takes place ahead of the Emmy Awards, and this weekend’s installment shifted to the new year to follow the TV Academy’s celebration due to the dual strikes last summer.
“We’ve had quite a year, and this organization and its fundraiser has helped many weather the storm,” said Brunson. Added Odenkirk, “I’m thrilled to be a co-chair of MPTF’s Evening Before benefit with Quinta. MPTF really stepped up during a very challenging year to support the entertainment community, and I’m proud to be a part of a fundraiser that will help to sustain that vital support.

A new “Star Trek” film is in the works at Paramount with “Andor’s” Toby Haynes on board to direct and Seth Grahame-Smith penning the script, Variety has confirmed.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, the upcoming feature will be an origin story that is set decades before 2009’s “Star Trek,” as well as an expansion of the “Star Trek” universe. J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot is producing.
Meanwhile, the fourth installment of the rebooted “Star Trek” film series remains in development, with the studio describing it as the “final chapter.” In the third film, 2016’s “Star Trek Beyond,” the crew of the USS Enterprise crash-lands on a mysterious world after being attacked by the lizard-like dictator Krall (Idris Elba).
A fourth “Star Trek” movie starring Chris Pine was first announced in July of 2016, with Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho and Simon Pegg expected to return.

One of the more fantastical elements of J.J. Abrams' 2009 film "Star Trek" is the use of a mysterious, seemingly magical substance called Red Matter.
In the 23rd century, Spock (Leonard Nimoy) used Red Matter to create a black hole in the Romulan star system just as its sun was about to go supernova. The idea was that the black hole would suck up the exploding star like a vacuum cleaner and save the Romulan homeworld. No, the actual astral physics don't many any sense, but this is what they went with.
Spock did suck up the supernova with his black hole, but he was too late to save Romulus. The black hole, it turns out, was also a portal through time, and Spock is sucked in and deposited about a century in the past. Following Spock through the time hole is a bitter Romulan named Nero (Eric Bana), incensed...

Star Trek and The Twilight Zone share a lot of actors, with many appearing in both series throughout their long runs. The recent revival of The Twilight Zone, narrated by Jordan Peele, captures the haunting essence of the original with its atmospheric storytelling. Actors from Star Trek, including Nana Visitor, Ethan Phillips, Jonathan Frakes, Tim Russ, John deLancie, Brent Spiner, Tawny Newsome, Paul F. Tompkins, Robert Duncan McNeill, Terry Farrell, and John Cho, have also made appearances in The Twilight Zone, showcasing their versatility.

Earth vs. The Spider reimagined Spider-Man’s origins as a horror movie long before his modern film outings. Earth vs. The Spider predates Madame Web, Morbius, and even 2002’s Spider-Man, yet captures many elements present in those movies. Madame Web has promising potential to weave a new legacy of horror and rekindle a terror born in Earth vs. The Spider.
As Madame Web swings into theaters, it comes with the realization that Earth vs. The Spider already put a horrific spin on Spider-Man's legacy. A curious choice for a movie and just one of many Spider-Man spinoffs produced by Sony, Madame Web promises a different kind of superhero film as it attempts to expand the ever-growing Spider-Verse. Undoubtedly one of the inspirational and beloved heroes of all time, Spider-Man comes with plenty of dark implications, and they tend to manifest in cinema under unusual circumstances.

The arc of the cinematic Kelvin timeline of "Star Trek" is curious and, in retrospect, may only be considered a stop-gap in the franchise until it mustered up the money and the legal wherewithal to usher it back to television. The Kelvin-verse, it should be remembered, arrived into a post-9/11 world, and audiences were in no mood for the usual calm, intellectual, pacifism-and-diplomacy-forward tenets of "Star Trek" as it had been. Righteous, vengeful action was more the public's speed in the '00s, hence why superheroes rose to the top of popular culture during that decade. As such, Paramount put out J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" in 2009, updating the franchise to look and feel more like "Star Wars."
Trek 2009 rebooted the franchise's timeline to depict younger, alternate versions of familiar TV characters from 1966. It also upped the battle and destruction quotient by a sizeable factor. The 2009 film was successful enough...

In the original Charmed, the Halliwell sisters used their witchy abilities to fight off demons, warlocks, and other magical and human baddies who threatened their beloved city of San Francisco (and the world). Along the way, Prue (Shannen Doherty), Piper (Holly Marie Combs), Phoebe (Alyssa Milano), and Paige (Rose McGowan) helped many innocents who were either targeted by these villains or caught in the crosshairs of the battle between good and evil. Throughout the show’s run, many guest-starring actors delivered outstanding performances before their meteoric rise to fame. For instance, Amy Adams starred in Season 2's “Murphy’s Luck” as Maggie Murphy, a woman cursed by a Darklighter who tries to lead her to take her own life. However, out of all eight seasons, the best guest star the series ever had was in one of the very first episodes: John Cho.

Star Trek Nemesis just about marked the death of the franchise. Indeed, the fact that it was a worldwide box-office disaster meant that many felt the series had run out of steam. For the first time in many years, there were no active big-screen franchises or Trek shows running on TV, with the often neglected Star Trek: Enterprise going off the air in 2005. It seemed space operas were out of vogue, with the rise of superhero movies taking Hollywood by storm. Not only was there the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies and the Christopher Nolan Batman movies breaking box office records, but also a little company called Marvel studios decided to start making the own movies, beginning with Iron Man.

The creators of Harold & Kumar confirmed that talks for a potential fourth movie are ongoing, with interest from Kal Penn and John Cho, but scheduling is the biggest holdup. Now is a great time for Harold & Kumar 4 because there is little competition in the stoner comedy genre and there is a desire for more diverse storytelling with Asian-led casts. The success of nostalgic-based properties like the recent Bill & Ted movie suggests that audiences would be interested in seeing the return of Harold & Kumar and the development of their families could be a potential plot point.
With over a decade gone since the duo's last adventure, the potential Harold & Kumar 4 has gotten a very confident update from the franchise's creators. Led by Kal Penn and John Cho, the comedy movie series centers on the eponymous stoners as they frequently find themselves in crazy situations, including a harrowing journey to White Castle for food,...

As an actor, Matthew Perry was nominated for four Emmys. He was a regular in the generation-defining ensemble smash Friends and, as a guest star, seamlessly integrated into the spectacular ensemble on shows like The West Wing and The Good Wife.
The show that best understood Perry’s sensibility and, more than that, the essence of what he projected best onscreen may not have been one of his signature successes, and may not be one of the first half-dozen shows that heartbroken fans look back on as we reflect on Perry, who died this weekend at 54. Go On ran for 22 episodes on NBC between 2012 and 2013 and was canceled after that lone season. It has fans — any show with an ensemble that included Tyler James Williams, Laura Benanti, Brett Gelman, Sarah Baker, John Cho and more is going to find fans — but only a small audience.

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit Fox’s short-lived “The Exorcist” television series, which aired on the Fox Network from 2016 through 2017.
2023 has been a turbulent year for fans of The Exorcist. Along with the fiftieth anniversary of the original horror masterpiece being widely celebrated, there was the unfortunate passing of director William Friedkin, who left behind an absolutely remarkable body of work. And then there was the release of a brand new installment of the franchise, the first one fans have seen in almost twenty years. But let’s not forget the overlooked “The Exorcist” TV series from Fox.
Studios have taken great pains since the release of 1973’s The Exorcist to find ways to revitalize the franchise, and have often failed spectacularly. But surprisingly, Fox and Morgan Creek did a pretty bang up job when they gave us a serialized primetime TV version of “The Exorcist.
