- His Chinese wife, Eileen Loh, was a schoolteacher. They had a daughter named Molly. Her name was inspired from a line he had in the MGM musical Easter Parade (1948). Towards the end of the film Peter, playing Fred Astaire's valet, pulls a white rabbit out of a hat box and calls it "Molly".
- In later years (from the 1960s on) he composed art songs and patriotic tunes under his given name Koh-nie Kuh.
- An in-depth article on Peter by Thomas A. DeLong in the October 2009 issue of Classic Images points out the fact that he was one of the first Chinese actors to get into radio, and that he was the only true Chinese actor to ever play the detective Charlie Chan (in his case, on radio).
