Paging Dr. Trowbridge! Paging Dr. Trowbridge!
It was only appropriate that Parker used the name of a fictional doctor when pretending to be a cardiac surgeon on NCIS Season 21 Episode 8.
When his back was against the wall and he had to improvise, Parker hollered out the name of Chevy Chase's Dr. Emmett Trowbridge from the classic 1985 film "Spies Like Us."
It's about time that Gary Cole had another turn in the spotlight.
Sure, fans still wait with bated breath for any mention of Gibbs.
But Cole's Alden Parker has made for a smooth transition to the post-Gibbs world since he took over the team on NCIS Season 19 Episode 6.
Parker and Gibbs are near opposites. His bullpen is more collegial and less technophobic. If you must go in a different direction, go in a different direction. That's definitely the case when it comes to team leadership.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for NCIS Season 21 Episode 8 “Heartless.”] “Even if all your choices are bad, you have to pick the best bad choice because that’s the only choice you’re going to have to survive,” says Gary Cole, explaining why his character, NCIS Special Agent in Charge Alden Parker, made the split-second decision to pose as a heart surgeon in the latest episode. The actor told us more about filming the adrenaline-pumping installment in our weekly after show NCIS: Case Closed. Parker allowed himself to be kidnapped along with a real cardiac specialist, Navy Commander Clara Logan (Christina Kirk), who was being taken to operate on Colombian drug kingpin Carlos Savina (Juan Javier Cardenas). The NCIS Season 21 finale is almost at hand. That’s unfortunate news for fans who don’t know about the shortened season.
We only get 10 new episodes of NCIS this spring, even though it feels like the season just began.
Two Hollywood strikes delayed production, forcing CBS to cut the episode order from one of its top shows.
NCIS Season 21 is doing very well in the ratings. That’s the good news. But it may have been eclipsed by another CBS drama.
Tracker is turning in impressive first-season numbers, possibly making the most-watched drama of the 2023-2024 television season.
CBS already ordered a second season from Tracker, with those new episodes airing during the 2024-2025 television season.
New details about the upcoming NCIS season finale
The NCIS Season 21 finale airs on Monday, May 6. That’s a detail the network released a while ago as many of its shows prepare for the long summer hiatus.

With the April 15 episode of “NCIS” on CBS, the overall franchise — including its multiple spinoffs — clocks its 1,000th episode. That’s a milestone for all of the associated series, but the mothership show accounts for nearly half of those, and is edging ever closer to its own once-unfathomable benchmark: “NCIS” O.G. is at 463 episodes and counting, with the 500-show mark hardly out of reach, especially now that the show has just been renewed for its 22nd season. There’s no end in sight, with the top-rated drama series having proven its ability to withstand cast changes, such as the loss of Mark Harmon, the show’s original team leader, in 2021. (Gary Cole tagged in as Harmon was departing during Season 19.)
And yet, if there were a complete and total turnover, fans’ loyalty might not still be the same. Although there’s no cast member left from the show’s...

“NCIS” and “The Neighborhood” have both been renewed at CBS.
The renewal will bring “NCIS” to its 22nd season, while “The Neighborhood” will be back for its seventh season. Both shows currently air on Mondays on the broadcast network.
“’The Neighborhood’ and ‘NCIS’ are the very best definition of a CBS comedy and drama,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “They embody authentic storytelling with heart, humor, and family dynamics. We are proud to bring them back next season.”
“NCIS” has long been a cornerstone of the CBS scripted lineup. Per CBS, the series is still averaging 12.9 million multiplatform viewers, even this late in its run. The show serves as the foundation for a TV franchise that continues to pay off for CBS and parent company Paramount. CBS also currently airs “NCIS: Hawaii” while “NCIS: Sydney” airs on Paramount+ and CBS. CBS is also at work on a prequel...

Sean Murray now holds the distinction of being the longest-running NCIS cast member. However, despite being the stepson of the show’s creator, Donald Bellisario, he still does not feel very secure in his job.
That seems so unlikely as on Monday, CBS will be celebrating the 1,000 episode of the NCISVerse. Yet, he remains uncertain.
Why doesn’t the actor who portrays geeky Agent Tim McGee “feel safe” in his long-time role?

When Mark Harmon left NCIS, it seemed to be a role no one could replace. However, the show brought in Gary Cole to be the new team leader and he seemed to slip into the role perfectly. However, Cole said things were not going to be easy for Alden Parker with his new team.
Here is what Cole had to say about replacing Mark Harmon.
Gary Cole On Replacing Mark Harmon On NCIS
Gary Cole was a good choice to replace Mark Harmon on NCIS. While the long-running, popular procedural has seen characters come and go, Mark Harmon’s Jethro Leroy Gibbs seemed irreplaceable. However, the show made good on replacing him when they signed Gary Cole to take on the role of Alden Parker.
This change in leadership for the NCIS team came in 2021 when Harmon left the show and stepped aside for a new person to take over the team leader role.

New guy Alden Parker (Gary Cole) had some giant shoes to fill when he took over in 2021 as head of the NCIS team from longtime leader Leroy Jethro Gibbs. After a bumpy start with the agents, Parker won them over, but fans loved Cole — a familiar face with a long career in TV and films — from the start. We spoke with the actor about his character’s journey so far. When Director Vance (Rocky Carroll) offered Parker the job, he hesitated. Why? Gary Cole: He [wondered], “Is this where I really want to be?” The stakes couldn’t be higher. The [team is] on a perpetual stress train. Parker, by nature, is a loner. Out of instinct, he doesn’t trust anybody. But he’s got to make compromises and do two things: watch his back and trust other people with his life. At first, Parker was adversarial with ...

Mike Judge and his Office Space cast reunited at South by Southwest Film & TV Festival for a panel discussion March 9 sponsored by The Hollywood Reporter about the beloved and influential film — a title that arguably reinvented the workplace comedy for the modern age and popularized the concept of quiet quitting. While the panel discussion tackled several intriguing aspects about the film’s creation and reception (some highlights below), Judge revealed a few extra tidbits at the post-panel reception at Austin’s The Statesman restaurant.
Asked if there was anything he would change about the film (which was famously difficult to get made, with the writer-director fending off a blizzard of studio executive Tps reports, er, notes), Judge offhandedly noted he hasn’t seen his film since before it was released in 1999. NCIS Season 21 is still filming upcoming episodes, with the season finale slated to air this spring.
Despite this being a shortened season due to the Hollywood strikes, NCIS is about to have a monumental event.
NCIS will soon debut the 1,000th episode of an NCIS program (counting all its spin-offs). This is a big deal for the franchise.
That big episode is reportedly slated to arrive on Monday, April 15, with plenty of fanfare from CBS expected.
To take a franchise to 1000 episodes and beyond is extremely impressive, and there are no signs of the NCIS Universe slowing down.
It was recently revealed that Anthony Dinozzo and Ziva David are getting an NCIS spin-off. The stars (Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo) will be filming soon.
Sean Murray shares some NCIS spoilers from the set

NCIS has been part of the television landscape for the past two decades.
Following a two-episode backdoor pilot on Jag in 2003, the redundantly named Navy NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service debuted in the fall of that year.
Although it started slowly ratings-wise in its first couple of seasons, a franchise soon was born.
Now in its 21st season, NCIS has produced more than 450 episodes and six spinoff series, a record unmatched in TV history (although Law & Order fans doubtless will quibble).
Maybe now, shortly after the series said goodbye to its second-most popular character on NCIS Season 21 Episode 2, would be a good time for a hiatus.
That's insane, you say, what with two new spinoffs in the pipeline.
Look back fondly
Let's start with the fact that every day, on cable and streaming, fans can watch their favorite episodes from the golden years of NCIS, back before Abby, Tony, Ziva,...

Office Space is celebrating its 25th anniversary following its delayed path to success, although hopefully no one would get their ass kicked for saying something like that.
Released Feb. 19, 1999, director Mike Judge’s enduring and endlessly quotable workplace satire follows computer programmer Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston), who decides to stop caring about his day job and teams up with Initech co-workers Michael Bolton (David Herman) and Samir Nagheenanajar (Ajay Naidu) to defraud the company. The Fox comedy — featuring such on-the-rise performers as Jennifer Aniston, John C. McGinley, Gary Cole and Stephen Root — collected just $10 million at the time but became a cult favorite after finding a following through cable and home video.
Other standouts from the cast include Richard Riehle as engineer liaison Tom Smykowski, who defends his job (“I have people skills!”) to Paul Willson and McGinley as the two Bobs who are put in charge of layoffs. In...

NCIS isn’t going anywhere. More than 450 episodes into its run, the CBS drama about naval criminal investigators hasn’t lost any steam – or the support of the network. The show, which had its 21st season premiere on Feb. 12, isn’t “slowing down anytime soon,” a CBS executive recently promised.
‘NCIS’ is still going strong after 20 seasons (L-r): Brian Dietzen as Jimmy Palmer, Katrina Law as NCIS Special Agent Jessica Knight, Wilmer Valderrama as Nick Torres, Diona Reasonover as Forensic Scientist Kasie Hines, and Gary Cole as FBI Special Agent Alden Parker in ‘NCIS’ Season 21 Episode 2 | Michael Yarish/CBS ©2023 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
For any show to last 20 seasons is an impressive feat, especially in today’s competitive TV environment. But NCIS has managed to pull it off. The Jag spinoff, which premiered in September 2003 is now one of the longest-running scripted primetime shows in TV history.

Now we have the beginnings of an answer to that sad question.
The show set the stage for Ducky's departure with the final scenes of NCIS Season 21 Episode 1.
And in the episode set to air on Monday, February 19, the NCIS crew will get the chance to say goodbye to one of their own.
Poignantly, the episode was co-written by Brian Dietzen, who plays Ducky's fellow medical examiner -- and former assistant -- Dr. Jimmy Palmer.
The previous episode concluded with Alden Parker (Gary Cole) receiving an urgent phone call.
We only heard his half of the conversation, but viewers were quick to assume that the call had to do with Ducky.
