When it comes to this season’s Goldfish, Ken believes he knows who it is and his guess is someone all of the show’s fans know well.

“This Is Us” star Chrissy Metz knew “The Masked Singer” would be a challenge. But that’s why Metz, who was revealed as latest celebrity to be unmasked on Wednesday night’s quarter finals, figured she had to do it.

With the tsunami of action blockbusters flooding the multiplex, you might think that the movie studios have forgotten that Spring (despite some near ninety-degree days) is the season for romance. So, where are the love stories? Actually, this new one is only streaming, though it’s certainly worthy of a theatrical run, After all, it stars an Oscar-winning actress and its director has made two films that “took home the gold”. Plus it’s based on a popular novel, though in many ways it’s a modern media gloss on a fairy tale. Mind you, the “princess” is unlike any we’ve met as this is more of a May/December pairing (minus the tons of angst of that flick from last year). Like that classic Nat King Cole tune, each of these unlikely lovers is smitten with The Idea Of You.
We first meet one of the “yous” in the film’s opening scene.

"Fallout" avoids the big flaw of most video game adaptations by throwing away the plot and instead focusing on letting the audience live in this fantastical world. It doesn't mess with the games' storylines, it doesn't contradict player agency, and it just lets "Fallout" be "Fallout."
Indeed, the true star of the show isn't Walton Goggin's hot ghoul or Ella Purnell's vault dweller, but the production design. The world of "Fallout" feels as big and detailed as "Foundation" or "Rings of Power," while still feeling as desolate as "The Last of Us." The show has a unique atom-punk retrofuturism style that somehow combines robots and Bing Crosby. The story takes place over 200 years after nuclear war destroyed the planet, with a small percentage of the population surviving by hiding in underground vaults. Every part of the show feels tactile and lived-in, from the robots to the ruined buildings and the vaults,...

There are a lot of iconic video game soundtracks, but none are quite as magical as Fallout’s. There’s a strange alchemy to the way the franchise pairs its ultra-violent combat and desolate, post-apocalyptic setting with wistful mid-century ditties. The music isn’t a mere accompaniment to the gameplay; it’s the beating heart of the series and has made the games so enduring and beloved they’ve spawned an Amazon Prime TV show. In other words, without its licensed soundtrack, Fallout wouldn’t be the phenomenon it’s become.
The franchise’s musical identity has taken over 27 years to develop and evolve, but the ‘50s post-war sentiment of blissful optimism quivering under the looming threat of nuclear war that is felt throughout the series was established in the first game.

Jean-Paul Vignon, the romantic French vocalist and actor who impressed audiences on both sides of the Atlantic during an eight-decade career, died March 22 of liver cancer in Beverly Hills, his family announced. He was 89.
Performing a repertoire of contemporary pop and American standards, Vignon debuted in the U.S. in 1963 at the famed New York supper club The Blue Angel, where he opened for stand-up comic Woody Allen.
Ed Sullivan would soon showcase him on his Sunday night CBS variety show in eight appearances — including one in which he sang a duet with young Liza Minnelli — and he became a regular guest on Johnny Carson and Merv Griffin’s programs.
Signed to Columbia Records, Vignon released his first U.S. album, Because I Love You, in 1964. Three years later, he had a supporting role opposite William Holden and Cliff Robertson in the World War II film The Devil’s Brigade.

Ross Valory has dreamed of making a solo album ever since he started gigging around San Francisco in the late Sixties, but other projects kept getting in the way. He was in the process of amassing original songs in 1971 when the Steve Miller Band brought him into the fold to play bass on Rock Love. Later, he teamed up with ex-members of Santana to form the Golden Gate Rhythm Section. Within a few months, they changed their name to Journey.

As we wind down this year’s Oscar season, we at Gold Derby are already looking forward to next year’s. Clearly, we can’t get enough. But next year’s Academy Awards season could also concern this year’s as the Oscars afterglow effect could be in full force. Actors can often garner a quick follow-up nomination after breaking through in the nominations list the year prior. Eddie Redmayne accomplished this when he followed up his 2015 Best Actor win for “The Theory of Everything” with a 2016 Best Actor bid for “The Danish Girl.” Similarly, Octavia Spencer was nominated for Best Supporting Actress two years in a row — in 2017 for “Hidden Figures” and in 2018 for “The Shape of Water.” So, which of these year’s acting nominees could return next year? Let’s take a look.
Best Actor
Bradley Cooper has an exciting project that should be out in time for next year’s Oscars.

Marvel Studios has a lot of course-correcting ahead of it. The company is recovering from a year of flops, and with the exception of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Loki Season 2, even their loyal fans have not received the rest of their projects well in the past year or so. Disney CEO Bob Iger has addressed that the studio has previously concentrated more on quantity instead of quality and has vowed to pull back on the amount of project output so the movies and TV shows do not suffer. He has recently even admitted that Disney has secretly “killed a few projects already that we just didn’t feel were strong enough.”
Another big looming shadow on the company is the controversial case of the once rising star, Jonathan Majors. Majors was let go from Marvel as Kang when he was found guilty in his assault case and...

When Robbie Robertson and The Band performed their final concert at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom in November 1976, it was clearly an ending for the group, as expressed in the title of the 1978 film Martin Scorsese made about the event, “The Last Waltz.” While that movie — by virtually any imaginable criteria, the greatest rock and roll film ever made — documented a farewell, it itself represented a new beginning: a collaboration between Scorsese and Robertson that would last nearly 50 years and yield an astonishing series of masterpieces including “Raging Bull,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” and most recently “Killers of the Flower Moon,” for which Robertson — who died last August at the age of 80 — posthumously scored an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score.

Fresh off his Best Actor Academy Award nomination for Rustin, Colman Domingo has been busy filling up his slate, with Variety reporting that his next project will see him starring as legendary singer Nat King Cole.
But wait, there’s more! In addition to starring as Nat King Cole, Colmon Domingo will also make his feature directorial debut on the musical biopic project. “I’ve been working on it quietly for a few years,” Domingo told Variety. “It’s something I’m looking forward to putting together with some great partners.” The actor previously co-wrote Lights Out: Nat ‘King’ Cole with Patricia McGregor, a play that premiered at the Geffen Playhouse in 2019.

Fresh off an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of civil rights activist Bayard Rustin, Colman Domingo is set to star in two more biopics. In addition to playing Joe Jackson in an upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, Domingo will direct and star in a movie about another legendary singer, Nat King Cole.
Domingo will play the Jackson family patriarch in the Antoine Fuqua-directed film Michael, which will also feature Michael Jackson’s real-life nephew Jaafar playing the late King of Pop.

“Rustin” star Colman Domingo has just been named an Oscar nominee for best actor for his powerhouse performance in the biographical drama. As he arrives to record the latest episode of Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast, Domingo says he wants to stay present in this moment, noting that he was “waiting around for a certain call for a few hours.”
That “certain call” would former President Barack Obama, who is the founder of the production company Higher Ground, which financed the George C. Wolfe drama.
A fashionable and charismatic figure (who’s also participating in “Dry January”), Domingo says that Presidential call came about one hour before he entered the studio. Doing his best Obama impression, Domingo says the first thing the former President said was, “Colman! Congratulations! Enjoy this moment. Enjoy every step of this. It’s a wonderful thing. Have fun.”

Colman Domingo is already unforgettable, but now he’ll tackle the role to prove it.
Domingo will be starring as the legendary singer Nat King Cole in a movie musical from a script he co-wrote, Variety has learned exclusively. He will also be making his feature directing debut on the project.
“I’ve been working on it quietly for a few years,” he says during a Variety Awards Circuit Podcast episode. “It’s something I’m looking forward to putting together with some great partners.”
It’s not yet known which period Domingo’s film will focus on. One of the most notable moments of his life was on April 10, 1956: while performing before an all-white audience in Birmingham, Ala., a group of four white men attacked him while performing. After the authorities apprehended the men, the singer returned to the stage, with the remaining audience members giving him a 10-minute standing ovation.

Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift has broken Elvis Presley‘s long standing record for the most weeks spent atop the Billboard 200 album chart by a solo artiste. She set a new mark of 68 total weeks, as ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ landed on top of the chart for a fifth time in the final full tracking week of 2023, reports Variety.
Although Swift set a new record for an individual, the ultimate high-water mark among all artistes is still held by the Beatles, whose albums have spent 132 weeks on top of the Billboard 200. Presley’s 67 weeks now puts him in second place among solo recording artistes and third place among all acts.
As per Variety, ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ registered 98,000 album-equivalent units for the week ending December 28, which was roughly half-in and half-out of the peak holiday buying season, marking a 28 percent decline from the previous week, per Luminate, and as reported by Billboard. Christmas time was here during the Billboard 200 tracking week of December 22 through December 28, but it didn’t keep Taylor Swift from continuing her run at number-one. Her re-recorded “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” album achieved a fifth nonconsecutive week on the chart with 98,000 equivalent album units based on its combined record sales, individual track sales and online streams. That turned out to be a historic milestone for the singer-songwriter. Read all about this week’s chart at Billboard.com.
Swift’s five weeks at number-one with “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” bring her all-time total to 68 weeks on top across her 13 chart toppers. So she’s averaging more than five weeks at number-one with each of her leaders, and she now has more weeks at number-one than any other solo artist in history. She still trails The Beatles among all artists, but it’s possible no one will ever catch them: they had 19 number-one...

When the 1962-1963 American television season kicked off, there was a notable absence on CBS' schedule: "The Twilight Zone" had been bumped from its Friday 10 Pm timeslot and replaced by a new sitcom titled "Fair Exchange." This was quite the blow to its devoted fans, who adored the series for its unusually heady treatment of the science fiction, horror, and suspense genres. Though that itch would get scratched by the debut of ABC's "The Outer Limits," viewers looked forward to embarking on mind-bending journeys once a week with the show's creator and frequent writer Rod Serling.
Fortunately, CBS had no plans to cancel "The Twilight Zone." The show just needed to find a new sponsor before it could once again haunt the airwaves. Once this issue got settled, CBS was keen to trumpet its January 1963 return in any way it could -- and it hit upon a brilliant bit of...

Popular Christmas songs last forever, and Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime” is one of the most popular. The “Band on the Run” singer doesn’t care if it’s overplayed. Love it or hate it, “Wonderful Christmastime” distinguishes itself from most of the Christmas canon.
Paul McCartney wanted ‘Wonderful Christmastime’ to get the party started
In a 2022 article from his website, Paul discussed writing “Wonderful Christmastime.” “I like the idea of Christmas songs purely because they only come around at Christmas!” he said. “They remind us of the fun atmosphere of the whole season, and when I was writing ‘Wonderful Christmastime’ I was trying to capture that party aspect.”
Paul commented on the tune’s ubiquity. “I did hope it would keep coming back — which it has,” he said. “Sometimes people will go into a shop and hear it a little too much, but I don’t care! I’m happy!

Bass loafers, Timberlake performed a 70-minute set of his greatest hits to help christen the Fontainebleau’s new 3,800-seat BleauLive Theater, opening with 2006’s “SexyBack,” before launching into a medley of fan favorites like “LoveStoned,” “Señorita,” “Cry Me a River” and “Summer Love.”
In front of a star-studded crowd that included wife Jessica Biel, Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Lenny Kravitz and Cher, Timberlake also performed a mashup of “Can’t Stop the Feeling” and Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day,” then took to the piano for an acoustic rendition of “Until the End of Time” that he dedicated “to all the lovers out there.” Toward the end of the night,...

Amazon’s Prime Video has released the first teaser for Fallout, its series based on the hugely popular video game franchise.
The 2 1/2-minute teaser (watch it below), unveiled at the Ccxp convention in São Paulo, showcases the scale of the game and several darkly comedic moments, with a tone set by a title card noting it’s from “the studio behind The Boys … and free 2-day shipping” and Nat King Cole’s “I Don’t Want to See Tomorrow” providing the soundtrack.
Fallout is set 200 years after a nuclear apocalypse — also partly depicted in the teaser — and follows the “gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters,” who are forced back into the harsh world they’ve kept at bay.
The series has been in the making for more than three years: Westworld creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan (who signed a big overall deal with what was then known as Amazon Studios...

Elliot Silverstein, who helmed episodes of such acclaimed TV shows as Naked City, The Twilight Zone and Route 66 before guiding Lee Marvin to a best actor Oscar in Cat Ballou, his feature directorial debut, died Friday in Los Angeles, his family announced. He was 96.
The Boston native also helmed A Man Called Horse (1970), which starred Richard Harris in the title role as an English aristocrat who eventually becomes the leader of the Native tribe that had captured and tortured him. The action movie spawned a couple of sequels.
Most importantly, Silverman was instrumental in the formation of the milestone Bill of Creative Rights for directors.
“Every director today owes a debt of gratitude to Elliot Silverstein,” DGA president Lesli Linka Glatter said in a statement. “No one ever worked harder or was more passionate about protecting artists from having their work and vision altered than Elliot.”

Mariah Carey has taken on the title of unofficial queen of Christmas due to the blockbuster success of her 1994 tune, “All I Want For Christmas is You.” The song is the world’s first Christmas single to sell over 10 million copies. However, her favorite song of the season is not her own but one of the most beloved of all time, sung by a Chicago crooner.
Mariah Carey’s favorite Christmas song is…
In an interview with Jennifer Hudson on her daytime talk show, Mariah Carey spoke about her love for the holiday and her favorite Christmas song. And it’s not the tune she’s made synonymous with the holiday season.
Hudson declared, “You’re the queen of Christmas, and I think I’m the princess of Christmas.” She followed by asking Carey what her favorite Christmas song of all time was. The singer’s answer was surprisingly traditional.

“Flipside,” an endearing, dizzying documentary about the crushing convergence between art and commerce, begins with a common cold open. What we presume to be our enigmatic subject, the late legendary jazz photographer Herman Leonard, offers us a few pearls of wisdom that have led to his success. An array of close-ups of the singular, black and white portraits he took of Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra, and Nat King Cole, from a retrospective exhibition of his work, further instills his importance to an unknowing audience. These are also Leonard’s final days. He’s dying from cancer. From the opening, we think “Flipside” will be a “great man you must know more about” story.
But this documentary isn’t about the jazz photographer. At least, not directly. There are other stories: A woman writer battling writer’s block, “This American Life” creator Ira Glass’ musical, and the documentary’s primary inspiration,...

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett first met at the Robin Hood Foundation gala in New York City, where she had performed a version of Nat King Cole’s “Orange Colored Sky.” Bennett asked Gaga to sing a duet with him on his next album 2011’s Duets II, which was timed to his 85th birthday. Their performance of “The Lady Is a Tramp” would be the first collaboration between the two and the beginning of an enduring friendship that lasted throughout Bennett’s final years.
On Monday, Gaga posted a moving tribute to Bennett, who died July 21 at 96. “I will miss my friend forever,” she writes. I will miss singing with him, recording with him, talking with him, being on stage together.”

Tony Bennett, who died today at the age of 96, was a singular figure in music — a classic crooner who weathered the fickle winds of popular music over multiple decades by adapting but never fundamentally changing who he was. His initial rise and success were astounding in their own right, but the second half of Bennett’s career is just as fascinating. Starting in the Nineties, Bennett didn’t so much try to court younger audiences or artists but find some kind of common ground with them.

Tony Bennett has died at the age of 96.
The singer’s publicist, Sylvia Weiner, confirmed his death to The Associated Press on Friday morning, saying he died in his hometown of New York. There was no specific cause of death, but Bennett had been battling Alzheimer’s disease.
No one was more surprised by the duration and arc of Bennett’s career than Bennett himself.
“I can’t tell you how fortunate I feel about all this,” Bennett said during a 2006 interview, on the occasion of his 80th birthday. “I never really thought I’d be doing it this long… and it’s so much more than I ever imagined it would be. So I’m just thrilled.”

“I can’t tell you how fortunate I feel about all this,” Bennett said during a 2006 interview, on the occasion of his 80th birthday. “I never really thought I’d be doing it this long… and it’s so much more than I ever imagined it would be. So I’m just thrilled.”
Bennett went out on a high note, too. Having been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016, he kept working as able, bringing his performing career to a close with duet partner Lady Gaga...

Netflix’s new rom-com “The Perfect Find” isn’t short on great music. The original film stars Gabrielle Union and Keith Powers as Jenna Jones and Eric Combs as well as Gina Torres, who plays Darcy Hale. Jenna’s journey back into fashion comes at a price — begging her old nemesis for a job at her fashion magazine Darzine. Jenna also puts herself back out there for love, and she finds a real connection with Eric — until she realizes he’s Darcy’s son.
The film adaptation of Tia Williams’ novel contains a great soundtrack of music by Black artists. The soundtrack complements references to Nina Mae McKinney, Aretha Franklin and more, and strides between older hits from past decades and modern singles that are popular in the present day to capture the full spectrum of art.

‘The Perfect Find’ Review: Gabrielle Union and Keith Powers Charm in Fashion-Forward Netflix Swooner
Fashionista Jenna Jones (Gabrielle Union) took quite the tumble from her position in New York’s world of style. In “The Perfect Find” — Netflix’s visually vibrant, cinema-loving, if not quite perfect, rom-com — her professional and romantic plummet is documented in opening credits that cleverly use an animated collage to relate her story.
So, when we meet Jenna in person ,she’s without a job, and her man (D.B. Woodside) of 10 years has moved on … or so it seems. The 40-year-old is sporting baggy sweats, and not because she’s headed to the gym. She’s been living in her parents’ home licking her wounds, for a year, when her mother calls her out on it. The scene between mother (Janet Hubert) and grown-ass daughter is amusing and promising. As are the musical and visual choices director Numa Perrier makes that evoke Old Hollywood in a film with characters decidedly not Old Hollywood.

Yet through talent, perseverance, and an unflappable charm, Cole broke through and earned the respect of audiences and fellow musicians alike. Though his life was cut tragically short by lung cancer in 1965 at the age of 45, Cole’s musical legacy lives on.
