Exclusive: Here’s an intriguing TV project coming together across international boundaries. John David Coles, the U.S. director and exec producer on two series of House Of Cards, is working with Brit scribe Tom Williams (Kajaki) and UK producers Clipper Media on Emerald Eye, a noir thriller series set during the Bolshevik Revolution.
The team have now attached leading Finnish commercial broadcaster MTV3 and Finnish co-producers Markku Flink and Pauli Pent at their banner Luminoir (Viaplay and Lionsgate’s Cold Courage) to the English-language project. This is the first time that MTV has developed a drama series in English.
Cole’s Talking Wall Pictures will produce alongside Clipper. The latter, founded by Michael Nakan and Jake Alexander, is a London-based company focused on international projects that has strong relationships in China. Clipper is working on further English-language projects in Germany and Sweden, and is also producing feminist horror anthology...

Over the years, Netflix has become the go-to solution for those of us with little-to-no time to enjoy entertainment content. By releasing full seasons all in the one go, the online streaming giant has no doubt revolutionized the ways in which engage with our favorite TV shows and films, whether it’s watching them sporadically or consuming all episodes at once in a state of crazed binge-watching.
But what if you needed to consume all 26 episodes of House of Cards before the arrival of season 3 tomorrow? Well, the Fine Bros. have the answer in the form of a concise, nine-minute video that recaps the entire run of the acclaimed political drama, and the Underwoods’ meteoric and controversial rise to power.

Over the course of Netflix’s astute marketing campaign for House of Cards season 3, we’ve been treated with atmospheric vignettes that showcase the brooding Underwoods, a series of motion pictures and a foreboding trailer. Now, with less than a week to go until its premiere, the streaming service has unveiled a new and punchy thirty-second clip that sees Claire and Frank settling into their newfound positions of power — or at the very least, trying to.
As previous footage alluded to, this upcoming season will primarily focus on the couple as they struggle to keep all of the plates spinning against sky-high stakes. No mean feat, of course, given that Kevin Spacey’s Frank isn’t known for making friends in the traditional sense. But now that the tyrannical South Carolinian is the newly-appointed President in Walker’s steed, it will be interesting to see how his arc pans out across the thirteen hour-long episodes.

We are now but a few weeks away from the much-anticipated return of House of Cards for its third season, and Netflix has fired up the marketing campaign with the release of a new motion poster and key artwork.
Showcasing the Underwoods (played once again by Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright) disembarking from Air Force One, the promo material perfectly encapsulates the dark, brooding tone of the show’s next stint. With Frank now in full control of the White House as the newly-appointed President of the United States, it seems the only direction for the tyrannical, ruthless South Carolinian to go is down.
With tensions rising from within the West Wing, not to mention between each other, the pair’s rise to power has been fraught with problems both big and small, and it looks to be the case that House of Cards Season Three will only lump more pressure on their once-ironcast relationship.

Power, Season 1: Episode 4 – “Who Are You?”
Written by Sascha Penn
Directed by John David Coles
Airs Saturday nights at 9 on Starz
Already halfway through its first season, Power has shown no interest in leaving its story in fifth gear. There are moments when the pace quickens to what you might expect from a thriller, but they are few and far between–and for good reason, it seems. With that style of storytelling, Power allows itself to pay more attention to its characters than its plot. The enigmatic Ghost demands attention all on his own through sheer force and confidence. Tommy, however, is a bit more tricky to structure episodes around. Yet, “Who Are You?” is a great example of how that character works within Power and how Joseph Sikora brings him to life so well and believably.

Power, Season 1: Episode 3 – “This is Real”
Written by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich
Directed John David Coles
Airs Saturday nights at 9 on Starz
“This is Real” mostly deals with the reverberations of Ghost’s actions in Power to this point. That may take the form of the key chain that his daughter chokes on, but it is also represented in how all the groups involved in the crime plot–police forces included–are responding to the message that Ghost sent via severed body parts. So, on paper, there’s plenty of content here–stuff happens, as it were. Yet the episode itself feels like a less urgent or important one when so much of the focus is on the trials and tribulations of being a night club owner. The strand of story that involves a dealer giving bad cocaine to a woman who nearly dies in Truth might not take up...

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos told Wall Street analysts today that Maryland officials are engaged in “ongoing negotiations” to keep House Of Cards production in the state — even though lawmakers didn’t approve the tax breaks producer Media Rights Capital wants. “I would anticipate that these are overcome-able issues,” he says. The Netflix exec says that the state benefits from “staggering” benefits including “hundreds of jobs, and not just for actors.” The controversy has become a political volleyball, he said, though he was careful to note that Maryland “has been great for the show” and that “investors and fans are not at risk in any way.” Mrc, which had planned to start shooting the third season of the D.C.-set drama in early spring, received about $26M in Maryland tax credits for its first two season, according to reports. The production company has been seeking a tax credit...

Bates Motel Episode 204
“Check-Out”
Written By: Liz Tigelaar
Directed By: John David Coles
Original Airdate: 24 March 2014
In This Episode…
Emma wakes in bed at the motel with “cupcake boy.” She is embarrassed and slips out, then spends the rest of the episode ducking him. Outside, she finds Dylan passed out in his own vomit, in his truck. She goes for Norman, who helps get him into bed in one of the empty motel rooms. He insists he will take care of it, but Norma comes by and sees what is going on. She sends the kids to watch the office, and tucks Dylan in to bed. Emma wants to know what is going on (another recurring theme through this episode) but Norman steadfastly refuses to tell her.

Bates Motel, Season 2: Episode 4 – “Check-Out”
Written by Liz Tigelaar
Directed by John David Coles
Airs Monday nights at 10 on A&E
There’s a sequence in “Check-Out,” when Dylan returns home, that’s shot at a tilted angle near the upstairs landing. This is a rather overt way of visually expressing how incongruous the family dynamic is now that Caleb has shown up and disrupted everything. But it works well because it’s accompanied by Norma and Norman alternating primary positions as they step forward and toward Dylan during the argument/conversation, each growing in stature and looking more powerful as they inch closer to the estranged older son. The family bonds in “Check-Out” are very much at the forefront, and while it still feels like the stories that Norman is being given are not all that interesting compared to some of the other things going on in Bates Motel,...

Premiered Friday, Feb. 14th on Netflix
House of Cards premiered last year to tremendous buzz, the highly-anticipated, prestige-soaked first original program from Netflix. Viewers embraced the series and no one was surprised to see it rack up nomination after nomination, both for the Golden Globes and Emmys. After the initial furor died down however, many critics were left cold by the show’s self-satisfaction and paint-by-numbers approach, the strong individual performances let down by predictable plotting and under-developed characterization. Fortunately season two of House of Cards, while still flawed, greatly improves on many of the first season’s biggest problem areas and this self-awareness bodes well for the already-commissioned season three.

Elementary, Season 1, Episode 2: “While You Were Sleeping”
Directed by John Coles
Written by Rob Doherty
Airs Thursdays at 10pm (Et) on CBS.
After seeing the pilot episode for this almost uncompelling adaptation of Sherlock Holmes, Elementary skims through to a second episode and another chance to prove that Jonny Lee Miller and showrunner Robert Doherty know what they are doing.
What the pilot showed was that even though the intention to revitalize the Holmes character for modern audiences is there, the initial episode lacked the basic qualities that made Arthur Conan Doyle’s novels, as well as the BBC series Sherlock, so thrilling. In this second episode, we view Holmes and Watson’s developing relationship as they investigate a murder mystery involving a heiress, which includes a promising – and vastly improved – credit sequence consisting of a marble run reminiscent of The Goonies.

Two new executive producers will divide showrunner duties on USA Network's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" next season.
Robert Nathan, who has worked on the "L&O" flagship and "Svu," will run eight episodes, which will star Jeff Goldblum and Julianne Nicholson.
Walon Green, who has been a producer with the franchise since 1992, will lead the other eight with Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe.
The duo replace outgoing showrunner Warren Leight, who left the venerable procedural franchise in June to produce the HBO series "In Treatment."
Also: Tim Lea will serve as co-exec producer under Nathan, and Michael Chernuchin will be co-exec producer under Green. Executive producer/director John Coles will oversee production in New York.
"They have written hundreds of episodes of the brands' various iterations," executive producer Dick Wolf said. "By joining 'Ci,' they are providing the best of both worlds -- a new perspective and a wealth of experience with the brand. I could not ask for a better team as we embark on our eighth season."
"Criminal Intent" airs in originals on USA, with repeats running on NBC.
