One week before the 2020 election, Donald Trump beamed out at a Lansing, Michigan crowd and delivered his closing pitch to the women he imagined might be watching him. “I’m also getting your husbands — they want to get back to work, right? They want to get back to work. We’re getting your husbands back to work, and everybody wants it,” Trump said.

Democratic Senate candidates may have underperformed in last week’s elections, but Republicans haven’t secured control of the chamber just yet.
As it stands now, Republicans hold a 53-47-seat majority in the Senate. In the 2020 races that have already been called, Democrats netted a gain of one seat, which brings the balance of power to 52-48. But there are two outstanding races in Georgia scheduled for runoffs on January 5th, and if Democrats can win both of them the Senate will be split 50/50. If this were to happen,...

Georgia Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler made a baffling admission of ignorance while trying to hold on to her seat and remain in the good graces of President Trump.
On Wednesday, in an apparent move to stay consistent with her claim of not disagreeing with anything Trump has ever done or said, Loeffler told reporters that she was “not familiar” with the 2005 Access Hollywood tape in which Trump described sexually assaulting women. The recording went viral during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Ncta — The Internet & Television Association and Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press are backing Fox News in its efforts to dismiss a lawsuit filed by a public interest group over the way that the network covered the coronavirus crisis.
“While all cable programming enjoys First Amendment protection, the constitutional prohibition against unwarranted governmental interference with programming on news networks is especially clear,” the organizations wrote in a proposed amicus brief. The Ncta includes parent companies of some of Fox News’ rivals, including CNN and MSNBC, while the Reporters Committee includes print and broadcast representatives on its steering committee.
A state of Washington judge will consider Fox News’ motion to dismiss the case in a hearing on Thursday.

On Fox News Channel’s The Five on Monday, co-host Jesse Watters admitted he “didn’t take social distancing seriously” on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, before waking up the next morning and realizing “that was not the right move.”
“I am no longer going out to dinner. I was trying to help my local restaurants,” he said.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) announced on Monday that he is quarantining himself after being informed that he came into contact with an attendee of the Conservative Political Action Conference who tested positive for Covid-19. Gaetz, a Trump loyalist known for orchestrating outlandish stunts to get media attention, mocked coronavirus last week by wearing a gas mask onto the House floor to vote for an emergency spending bill to combat the virus.

After the Conservative Political Action Conference announced that one attendee tested positive for the coronavirus, such political figures as Sen. Ted Cruz (R-tx), Rep. Doug Collins (R-ga), Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-fl) and Rep. Paul Gosar (R-az) said that they would self quarantine.
Several media outlets who sent reporters to cover the event, held late last month, also say that their employees also will take similar precautions.
“Out of an abundance of caution, they have been asked to self-quarantine and work remotely for the duration of the incubation period,” Politico said in a note to employees. “Self-quarantine of well individuals who may have been exposed is simply a precautionary measure that helps mitigate spread of the virus and is a step that we will continue moving forward.”
The Washington Post also announced similar measures, with employees who attended Cpac as well as the American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference, held last week.

Update, 3:00 Pm Pt: Impeachment took on a solemn, ceremonial tone as the seven House impeachment managers walked to the Senate side of the Capitol to deliver the articles of impeachment.
Save for the clatter of cameras, the corridors of the Capitol were silent as House Clerk Cheryl Johnson and House Sergeant at Arms Paul Irving led Rep. Adam Schiff (D-ca) and Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-ny) and the five other managers to the Senate chamber. The procession had an 18th century formality to it, arcane in that it has happened so few times in American history.
A number of reporters recalled being present for a similar ceremony 21 years ago, when it was Republicans delivering articles of impeachment against President Bill Clinton.
“So sad, so tragic for our country,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said moments earlier, before she sat at a desk labeled with the hashtag #defendourdemocracy and signed the articles...

Did Republican Congressman Doug Collins (R-Ga.) have an epiphany that led him to apologize on Twitter less than two hours after he passed on two opportunities to do so on Fox News, or was he playing two media platforms to avoid who saw which message he was conveying?
On Wednesday night, Collins was convinced that Democrats were terrorist sympathizers, telling Lou Dobbs of Fox Business that they “are in love with terrorists” and that they “mourn Soleimani more than they mourn our Gold Star families.” He refused to apologize...

Republican congressman Doug Collins (R-Ga.) said Democrats pushing to give Congress a say over further military action against Iran “are in love with terrorists.”
The top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee made the comments on Fox Business Network’s Lou Dobbs Tonight on Wednesday.
Collins went on to accuse Democrats of having sympathy for Iranian general Qasem Soleimani, who was killed in a U.S. drone attack last week, saying, “We see that they mourn Soleimani more than they mourn our Gold Star families who are the ones who suffered under Soleimani.
