In James Mangold's The Wolverine there's a WWII flashback scene. Logan is in a Pow camp near Nagasaki. A Japanese soldier, Yoshida, opens up Logan's "cell" and encourages Logan to make a run for it. Logan tells him there is no place to run from what is coming (the a-bomb), choosing to stay in his bunker. Yoshida and his fellow soldiers realize their lives are nearing an end, and decide to take their lives. Just before a reluctant Yoshida can stab himself with his sword Logan stops him. Below, you will find storyboards from James Mangold's The Wolverine, created by John Coven. The first set of storyboards feature ninjas and Logan. As a reminder, before that scene takes place Logan has removed a robotic parasite from his heart, which allows his accelerated healing power to kick in. With all the news surrounding X-Men: First Class lately, it's almost refreshing to see something pop up related to the film that started the X-Men ball rolling. Story Board artist John Coven who's most recent work was on The Green Hornet, shared some of his story board art from Bryan Singers X-Men with Total Film. He had the following to say about the boards... This is my favorite of the scenes I boarded for X-Men. It does a great job of setting up how much stronger Sabertooth is than Logan. You always want to have your hero as much the underdog as possible. And frame 17 of course uses foreground and background as well as motion to an extreme I find very pleasurable."
