Exclusive: Jennifer Garner has pulled out of the long-in-the-works Apple TV+ limited series My Glory Was I Had Such Friends, from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Warner Bros. TV. As a result, the streamer has opted not to go forward with the project that it had landed with a straight-to-series order in 2018. Reps for Apple, Bad Robot, Wbtv and Garner declined comment.
According to sources, Garner exited My Glory Was I Had Such Friend for scheduling reasons. The show has taken quite awhile to get off the ground, and the Alias alumna is currently filming another Apple TV+ limited series, The Last Thing He Told Me, an adaptation of Laura Dave’s bestselling novel, which is produced by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine.

J.J. Abrams and Jennifer Garner first worked together on the hit TV series Alias. I loved that show, and now the two talents have found another project to work together on!
It’s a limited series being developed for Apple called My Glory Was I Had Such Friends, and it’s based on the 2017 memoir of the same name by Amy Silverstein. The story follows “a group of women who supported Silverstein as she waited for a second life-saving heart transplant.”
The series will be written and executive produced by Karen Croner (Admission), and it sounds like it will be solid project that will tell an inspirational story.
Here’s the official description of the memoir:

Remakes of Asian films about ectoplasm terrorizing the living were popular undertakings in Hollywood a few years ago ("The Ring," "The Grudge," "Pulse," "The Eye," "Dark Water"). But apparently, we are not done yet. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Adam Sandler and director Chris Columbus will be teaming up to remake the 2010 South Korean film "Hello Ghost." When Kristin Wiig hosted "Saturday Night Live" this season, one of the best sketches was a phony commercial for a new Disney Channel series in which Wiig plays a Korean water ghost who comes back from the dead to haunt her children and pressure them into doing their chores. Director: Paul Weitz; Screenwriter: Karen Croner; Starring Tina Fey, Paul Rudd, Lily Tomlin, Michael Sheen, Nat Wolff; Running time: 107 mins; Certificate: 12A
The pairing of Tina Fey and Paul Rudd should be worth the price of admission alone for this purported romcom, but their chemistry amounts to a procession of awkward grins in the face of a script distinctly lacking in spark and wit. But beyond agreeing to take on the roles, they're largely blameless. For an ill-conceived dynamic between their central characters is the main reason for the movie floundering, despite several strong elements elsewhere like an effervescent supporting turn by Lily Tomlin as Fey's feminist mother.

Admission stars two comedy heavy-hitters, Tina Fey (TV’s 30 Rock) and Paul Rudd (Wanderlust). It’s too bad critics didn’t see the humor.
In the movie, Fey plays Portia Nathan, a Princeton admissions officer who lives her life by the book. During her annual recruiting trip, however, she reconnects with a former classmate, free-spirited teacher John Pressman (Rudd).
As she bends the entrance rules for one of his unconventional students, she puts everything she thought she wanted at risk but also find a surprising and exhilarating life she never dreamed of.
Michael Sheen (Tron Legacy), Lily Tomlin (TV’s Damages), Wallace Shawn (TV’s Gossip Girl) and Gloria Reuben (Lincoln) also star in the PG-13 romantic comedy.

E! is trying its hand at scripted series, and one of the projects it has on the docket is the latest from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. The "Gossip Girl" and "The O.C." creators teamed up once again on the series "Laurel Canyon," another Southern California-based television show that E! is looking to air.
The project is described as being about "a young woman who returns to her Hollywood family after her rock-star dad dies," and is one of eight scripted shows E! has in development. Among the others is a "darkly psychological retelling" of "The Prince and the Pauper" called "The Stand-In," a modern retelling of "Great Expectations" about a "morally corrupt family in the diamond business in New York City" called "Expectations" and series produced by Gale Anne Hurd and Kevin Spacey.

E! certainly knows its niche. At its upfront presentation today, the network that spawned a thousand Kardashian series will unveil a programming slate filled with shows united by three Gs: glitz, glamor, and gobs of cash.

Admission movie: Domestic Box office bomb Paul Rudd hasn't been at all lucky at the Us/Canada box office. His latest star vehicle, the Paul Weitz-directed (About a Boy, In Good Company) comedy Admission, co-starring 30 Rock's Tina Fey, is his most recent box-office flop, following the costly James L. Brooks / Reese Witherspoon comedy How Do You Know ($30.21m), Jesse Peretz's Our Idiot Brother ($24.81m domestic), and David Wain / Jennifer Aniston's Wanderlust ($17.45m), plus Judd Apatow's commercial disappointment This Is 40 ($67.54m). (Pictured above: The likable Paul Rudd in the un-liked Admission.) Weitz's film pulled in an estimated $6.44 million at 2,160 Us and Canada sites this weekend (March 22 - 24), as per studio figures found on the web site Box Office Mojo. That's represents Rudd's second worst wide-release debut ever (movie screening at more than 1,000 venues), trailing only another comedy, Jeff Lowell's Over Her Dead Body, starring / Lake Bell and Eva Longoria,...

Admission, about a Princeton admissions officer (Tina Fey) who discovers that a young applicant (Nat Wolff) may be the son she gave up for adoption when she was a college student, opens today. The film, which co-stars Paul Rudd, is a light comedy with a very different approach than that of its source, a pensive 2010 novel by Jean Hanff Korelitz. This kind of markedly different stylistic adaptation can be a shock for a novelist: We asked Korelitz and the film’s screenwriter, Karen Croner, to share their thoughts on a process that can be emotional on both sides. Jean Hanff Korelitz: Serious writers pretend they don’t care about film adaptations of their work, but it’s a colossal lie: We all care. My first three novels were all the subjects of intensely exciting flurries of calls from producers and even stars’ production companies, and once someone actually hired...

Chicago – Tina Fey, love her. Paul Rudd, like his work, he’s a Judd Apatow guy. Wallace Shawn in “The Princess Bride,” exquisite. Lily Tomlin is a comedy legend. All these great and interesting performers participated in “Admission,” for which they all get an “F.”
Rating: 2.0/5.0
“Admission” takes us into the scintillating world of assessing who will be the Freshman class at Princeton University. This subject would seem to be ripe for parody in this age of super aggressive helicopter parents and overachieving, socially inept scholars – but no – it is a limp romantic melodrama light on the romance. It features Tina Fey in her first role post Liz Lemon and “30 Rock,” but literally gives her nothing to do but pout, sigh and pretend her character wasn’t created from a screenwriter’s wheel of fortune. Paul Rudd is weirdly cast as a do-gooder who has traveled the world, adopted a...

USA, 2013
Tina Fey and Paul Rudd have, over the last decade, cornered the market on being professionally delightful. They are immensely likable if quirky performers, blending off-kilter comedy with movie-star good looks. As such, Admission, their first film together, has an affable charm for its first two acts almost entirely because if you place Fey and Rudd in front of a camera, it’ll be enjoyable to watch. As the story goes on, though, the script piles on too many reversals that negate all of the hard-won emotion that came before, muting Admission’s impact.
Fey plays Portia Nathan, an admissions officer at Princeton University hoping to be promoted to the role of Dean of Admissions after her boss (Wallace Shawn) leaves at the end of the school year. Her upward mobility hits a snag when she’s contacted by John...

Tina Fey has revealed that she refused to shoot explicit love scenes for her new film Admission.
Admission stars Fey as a college admissions officer who discovers that a young student (Natt Wolff) might be the son she gave up for adoption.
Fey recently discussed the movie with Movieline, revealing that the early vision for the film included partial nudity in a scene between her and Paul Rudd's characters.
"The first meeting I had with [director] Paul Weitz and [screenwriter] Karen Croner, we talked a little about the feminist politics of movie, and also, originally, the movie was closer to the book [it was based on] in that it had a couple of legitimate sex scenes in it," Fey revealed.
She then joked: "I was like, 'Er [no]'… They were kind enough to accommodate that."
Admission also stars Lily Tomlin as the mother of Fey's character, in addition to reuniting the actress with former 30 Rock guest star Michael Sheen.

Tina Fey makes funny TV shows, funny movies and funny books.
Director Paul Weitz often goes for something beyond funny -- emotional stories of parents and children trying to puzzle out something beyond flesh and blood that bonds them.
She did "30 Rock" and "Date Night." He did "About a Boy" and "Being Flynn."
And somewhere on the uncertain ground between the two is "Admission." It's a romantic comedy -- of sorts -- about a lovelorn Princeton admissions officer forced to reconcile her judgmental job with the news that the baby she gave up for adoption 17 years ago might be applying to ... Princeton.
It's not a particularly satisfying comedy, but thanks to the cast and some of the odd directions it takes, "Admission" is an intensely likable one.

What should be a hilarious, long-overdue pairing of two hugely likable, superstar comedians ends up being a major disappointment with "Admission."
As much film and television work as they do individually, Tina Fey and Paul Rudd surprisingly never have worked together. In theory, her smart, zingy persona should mesh beautifully with his easygoing goofiness – or their shared dynamic should bounce, or snap, or have some sort of life to it. Instead, Paul Weitz's direction of Karen Croner's script is tonally erratic: too fast in spots and too much of a slog in others.
It certainly doesn't help that the characters, based on Jean Hanff Korelitz's novel, feel like types without much nuance. Even reliable comic veterans like Fey and Rudd can't find much that's new or fresh in these people, and as a result they have zero chemistry with each other. That's shocking, I realize.

I haven't read the novel by Jean Hanff Koreltiz that served as the source material for the new film "Admission," but Karen Croner's screenplay is one of those films where the lead characters are ostensibly smart people who do some oddly not-so-smart things for reasons that seem less than genuine. I wouldn't call "Admission" a bad film, but I think it's a muted pleasure at best, even with Tina Fey and Paul Rudd both doing their best to keep things light and charming. Fey stars as Portia Nathan, who works at Princeton as one of the gatekeepers who help decide who...

Ready to go back to school? Tina Fey (30 Rock) and Paul Rudd (This is 40) are paired for the first time on-screen in the new comedy/drama Admission. Every spring, high school seniors anxiously await letters of college admission that will affirm and encourage their potential. At Princeton University, admissions officer Portia Nathan (Tina Fey) is a gatekeeper evaluating thousands of applicants. Year in and year out, Portia has lived her life by the book, at work as well as at the home she shares with Princeton professor Mark (Michael Sheen). When Clarence (Wallace Shawn), the Dean of Admissions, announces his impending retirement, the likeliest candidates to succeed him are Portia and her office rival Corinne (Gloria Reuben). For Portia, however, it’s business as usual as she hits the road on her annual recruiting trip.
On the road, Portia reconnects with her iconoclastic mother, Susannah (Lily Tomlin). On her visit to New Quest,...

We have new images from Focus Features' Admission, starring Paul Rudd and Tina Fey. Directed by Paul Weitz, the Karen Croner, Dave Weasel and Jean Hanff Korelitz-written comedy opens on March 22nd, and looks like a pretty decent comedy from what I've seen in the second trailer. Also in the cast are Michael Sheen, Wallace Shawn. Sonya Walger, Lily Tomlin, Nat Wolff, Tina Benko and Gloria Reuben. A film about the surprising detours we encounter on the road to happiness. Straight-laced Princeton University admissions officer Portia Nathan (Fey) is caught off-guard when she makes a recruiting visit to an alternative high school overseen by her former college classmate, the free-wheeling John Pressman (Rudd). Pressman has surmised that Jeremiah (Nat Wolff), his gifted yet very unconventional student, might well be the son that Portia secretly gave up for adoption many years ago. Soon, Portia finds herself bending the rules for Jeremiah,...
