Phil Karlson’s The Scarface Mob was originally made as a two-part pilot for the Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse anthology series before the 80-minute episodes were re-cut for theatrical release. Given the sterility of so much dramatic television in the 1950s, it’s hard to imagine Karlson—best known for hard-hitting noirs like Kansas City Confidential and The Phenix City Story—seeing the format as suitable for his style. But Desi Arnaz, a huge admirer of the latter film, promised Karlson no studio interference. And while The Scarface Mob’s story presents a clear battle between good and evil in the form of Eliot Ness (Robert Stack) and Al Capone’s (Neville Brand) Chicago bootlegging empire, Karlson’s gritty brutality finds its way on-screen as the film conflates the maniacal ruthlessness of both men’s actions.
Stack’s performance went a long way in cementing Ness’s legacy in the public imagination.

After Netflix and Disney shuttered all live-action productions, Universal has decided to do the same with “Jurassic World: Dominion,” “Flint Strong” and the untitled Billy Eichner project all going on hiatus effective Friday.
The studio continues to monitor the situation closely and will make a determination on when to restart production in the coming weeks.
“Jurassic World: Dominon” had been shooting in London since February but in light of the coronavirus pandemic, execs felt it was the best move for the safety of all involved to delay the shoot indefinitely.
Like all the other productions being closed around the world, it is unknown when the shoot was going to end and if it will impact the June 2021 release date at this time.
Colin Trevorrow also wrote the script with Emily Carmichael (“Pacific Rim: Uprising”) from a story by Derek Connolly. Trevorrow is exec producing with Steven Spielberg, with Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley producing.

Director Colin Trevorrow announced via Twitter on Tuesday that “Jurassic World 3” has started principal production, and he also slyly revealed that the sixth film in the “Jurassic” franchise has a new title: “Jurassic World: Dominion.”
The new title — which appears on the slate for the film in Trevorrow’s tweet — evokes the biblical passage about God giving humanity dominion over the earth, a nod to the fact that “Dominion” is expected to depict the aftermath from 2018’s “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” when dinosaurs escaped captivity and into the rest of the world.

At a screening of “Jurassic World” tonight in Los Angeles, original “Jurassic Park” star Laura Dern announced that she, Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum will all reprise their roles from the original “Jurassic Park” in the upcoming “Jurassic World 3.”

In the original “Jurassic Park,” Dern played Dr. Ellie Sattler, Neill played Dr. Alan Grant, and Goldblum played Dr. Ian Malcolm, three scientists brought to the island as part of an inspection team to certify the park is safe (spoiler: it wasn’t). Goldblum appeared in the immediate sequel, 1997’s “Jurassic Park: The Lost World,” and 21 years later returned for a small supporting role in “Fallen Kingdom.” Dern and Neill both returned for 2001’s “Jurassic Park III.”

Exclusive: For Jurassic World 3, Universal Pictures will bring back original Jurassic Park stars Laura Dern, Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum to star alongside Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, sources said. Colin Trevorrow is back to direct and production starts early next year.
Dern moments ago revealed her participation in the film, as well as Neill’s and Goldblum’s returns, at a fan screening tonight of Battle at Big Rock, an eight-minute short film that Trevorrow directed and showed tonight, featuring dinosaurs running amuck after they’ve escaped to the real world. The last Jurassic World, directed by J.A. Bayona, ended with the revived beasts finding their way off the island and into civilization, so it might well be where the next installment of the film goes.
Steven Spielberg and Trevorrow return to be executive producers, while Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley are producing.
Emily Carmichael, has written the Jurassic World 3 screenplay with Trevorrow. They worked off a story by Derek Connolly and Trevorrow, who together co-wrote Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
Dern, Neill and Goldblum all originated their roles in the 1993 blockbuster that started a series that has grossed a cumulative total in excess of $5 billion globally, and broadened into video games, toys, novels, animated Lego series and theme park attractions.
Dern reprised her role as Dr. Ellie Sattler and Neill reprised his Dr. Alan Grant role in 2001’s Jurassic Park III. Goldblum reprised his role as Ian Malcolm in 1997’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and again in 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
Universal’s Svp Production Sara Scott is overseeing production on behalf of the studio.
Dern is represented by CAA and Untitled Entertainment; Neill is repped by Curtis Brown, ICM Partners and Shanahan Management; Goldblum is with ICM Partners, Elevate and Industry.

“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” has roared into China with an impressive $34.4 million on its first day on Friday.
The opening weekend for Universal and Amblin’s “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” isn’t likely to match “Avengers: Infinity War,” which launched with $199.3 million in China two weeks after its global debut and went on to become the third-biggest release ever in the country, with $369.7 million to date. The dinosaur tentpole will, however, likely finish its opening frame in China well ahead of two other major Hollywood titles — “Black Panther” ($65 million) and “Ready Player One” ($61.6 million).
“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” began rolling out on June 6 in overseas markets to avoid going up against soccer’s World Cup. The sequel’s international total, through Thursday, was $202.3 million from 49 markets, excluding its take in China.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Opens In Theaters June 22.
In her 5-star review, Melissa Thompson said the film is “a thrilling adventure. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom drives home exactly why this is one of the highest grossing franchises of all time. It’s edge-of-your-seat from start to finish, breathtaking at times, and feels every bit like the huge summer blockbuster we all know and love, and wait for all year long.”
It’s been four years since theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment. Isla Nublar now sits abandoned by humans while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungles.

Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” has opened with $20.2 million in its first international markets — two weeks ahead of its North American launch on June 22.
Universal reported Thursday that South Korea opened to a record-breaking $9.7 million and more than 1 million admissions, becoming the biggest opening day of all-time in both admissions and box office in the country. The admissions mark beat the record held by “Avengers: Infinity War” at 980,000.

Here’s some good news for the purists out there: Fallen Kingdom, Universal’s summer tentpole from director Juan Antonio Bayona, features more practical dinosaurs than any other Jurassic Park sequel before it. Hell, there’s even the promise of a new, life-sized Tyrannosaurus Rex animatronic built specifically for the 2018 follow-up.
