My biggest concern when Napoleon Dynamite was first released was that it would become a huge hit and hundreds of wannabe copycats would appear in its wake. Well, it has now been eight years since Napoleon Dynamite broke into the mainstream consciousness and copycats are still trickling out, such as Tom Morris' General Education. General Education opens as a flamboyant (he wears an ascot!), lisping tennis scout (Federico Dordei) flirtatiously offers Levi Collins (Chris Sheffield) a full scholarship to Forest Wood. Shortly thereafter, Levi finds out that he has failed Ms. Bradford's (Elaine Hendrix) science class which prompts him to refer to her as a dyke. Next we meet Levi's self-proclaimed sidekick, Charles (Skylan Brooks), a 13-year old black kid with no shoes who does Levi's bidding. So within the first five or so minutes of the film, it becomes apparent that no minorities or anyone in the Lgbt...

Posted online as a showreel piece for the actor Federico Dordei, YouTube is currently hosting a clip reel from the ill-fated Us attempt to remake Simon Pegg, Jessica Hynes and Edgar Wright's sitcom Spaced. You can see it embedded below the break in all of its... er... glory. In case you don't recall, the creators of the original were none too impressed with this redux. Fans of the British incarnation will probably agree that this clip is at once familiar and also almost unutterably alien. Now, I don't believe a good American remake of Spaced would be impossible, but I sure as heck also believe that this isn't it, disappearing tram or no disappearing tram. The new cast includes Federico Dordei as Christian, formerly Brian; Josh Lawson as Ben, formally Tim; and Sara Rue as Apryl, formerly Daisy and, to be fair, none of what's wrong is actually their fault.

In 2008, there was an underground roar bubbling over the news that Simon Pegg, Jessica Hynes, and Edgar Wright's Spaced was getting a U.S. remake produced by McG. As Pegg explained in an official statement, he wasn't against the idea of American remakes, but he wasn't happy with how this one was coming about. In the push to get the show made, they'd all signed away future rights, and Warner Bros. went ahead without so much as a consultation. However, although they didn't contact the trio behind the scenes, Wright's and Pegg's names were used to promo the remake, while completely disregarding the essential contribution by Hynes. Classy, eh?
Ultimately, the series was quashed only a few months later -- a true blessing -- but not before a pilot was made. Thanks to the wonder of the Internet, Pegg found a clip from it and tweeted the YouTube link...
