When Selena Gomez’s time as Alex Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place came to an end in 2012 after four seasons, the then 20-year-old’s focus shifted almost immediately toward establishing her post-Disney career. First came Spring Breakers that same year, then her debut solo album Stars Dance the following. All the while, she drifted apart from the on-set family she had spent four years with while filming the hit show. Now 30 and able to reflect on the years since, Gomez said letting those relationships slip away as one of her biggest mistakes.

On Monday’s episode of the Wizards of Waverly Pod with Jennifer Stone and David DeLuise, the singer said her biggest mistake so far was “not staying in touch” with her co-stars from the series.
“I felt ashamed of the decisions that I made,” the Only Murders in the Building actress explained. “I didn’t want you guys to see me in the state that I was in because a, you would have told me the truth which terrifies me, and b, I didn’t want to let you down.”

Wizards of Waverly Place was one of the most popular shows on the Disney Channel in the early 2000s. Selena Gomez, who starred in the series as Alex Russo, became an instant sensation.
Gomez has gone on to have a successful career as an adult as both a singer and an actor. She currently stars in Only Murders in the Building, along with comedy legends Steve Martin and Martin Short. She has also had 8 top-ten songs and is said to be working on new music.
However, her rise to fame began on the Disney Channel.
Selena Gomez was the breakout star on ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’
Gomez began acting at a very young age. She spent her ninth birthday at an open casting call for the children’s show, Barney & Friends, where she ultimately got the part of Gianna. She spent two years singing and dancing with the purple dinosaur.

The things you do for friendship. An interview recently resurfaced following the release of Selena Gomez's intimate "My Mind & Me" documentary reveals the star years ago made a professional sacrifice for one of her closest friends at the time, Demi Lovato. In a 2020 appearance on Wildchat Sports, television director David DeLuise, who played the Russo family's lovable patriarch on "Wizards of Waverly Place," said Gomez turned down the starring role in "Camp Rock" to ensure that it would go to Lovato.
"I've never really said this story, but . . . they offered 'Camp Rock' to Selena," DeLuise said at the time. He continued, "And Selena knew that if she had passed on it, that Demi would get the part." Gomez already had her breakout as Alex Russo in "Wizards of Waverly Place," and apparently, in an effort to help Lovato catch her own big break, she gave up the...

There is a distinct flavor of the brawnily austere Westerns that comprise Budd Boetticher’s cult-favorite Ranown Cycle — and more than a hint of another showcase for the great Randolph Scott, Sam Peckinpah’s “Ride the High Country” — in director Michael Feifer’s “Last Shoot Out,” a small-budget indie that aims to please the currently underserved niche audience for oaters.
To be sure, no one will ever confuse this slow-paced concoction with one of the classics that so obviously influence it. But it’s definitely a cut above some of the recent streaming-ready attempts to sustain the genre — indeed, it’s a marked improvement over Feifer’s own “Catch the Bullet,” released just last September — and it features a ferociously nasty turn by Bruce Dern in a role that recalls a character from yet another golden oldie, Walter Brennan’s vicious Old Man Clanton in “My Darling Clementine.”

Twenty five years ago this week, the sitcom Blossom debuted on NBC. Star Mayim Bialik was only 15 when the show began airing regularly on Jan. 3, 1991, and over the course of five seasons, viewers watched her character, Blossom Russo, learn a whole lot of major life lessons.
In fact, the show often made a point of prefacing these episodes with an intro voiceover from Bialik herself, who'd announce "Tonight, on a very special Blossom," just to let viewers know that they were in for some heavy stuff.
In honor of the show's silver anniversary, we're listing off the most special of those very special episodes.

Has Sharon Stone found love? The actress was spotted with Wizards of Waverly Place actor David DeLuise, packing on the Pda outside Hugo's Restaurant in West Hollywood on Friday. Stone, 56, and DeLuise, 43, looked casual in matching grey ensembles as they held hands and locked lips before parting. Despite the 13-year age difference, Stone - who's mom to three sons Roan, Laird and Quinn - was laughing happily with her new beau. Reps for Stone and DeLuise have not responded to requests for comment. Stone admitted earlier this year that it took her a while to embrace the concept of getting older.

If you are one of the many young (and not-so-young) people who has not moved past the end of "The Wizards of Waverly Place," you are in luck. The Disney Channel will air a "Wizards" special -- complete with superstar Selena Gomez -- called "Alex vs. Alex" on March 15.
You may not be able to wait until that time. This is Ok -- there is now a video to preview what is in store for Alex Russo and the family.
The video features Gomez explaining exactly what we can expect in the one-hour special. It seems that the Russo family takes a trip to Italy in order to visit some relatives. But of course, magic has to complicate even a family vacation. Alex accidentally uses a spell that splits her into an "Evil Alex" and a "Good Alex." As evil twins are wont to do, Evil Alex soon makes plans to take over the world.
