Rolling Stone‘s interview series King for a Day features long-form conversations between senior writer Andy Greene and singers who had the difficult job of fronting major rock bands after the departure of an iconic vocalist. Some of them stayed in their bands for years, while others lasted just a few months. In the end, however, they all found out that replacement singers can themselves be replaced. This edition features former Yes singer Benoît David.

Match #1: Kevin Owens def. Aleister Black – No Disqualification Match The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Kevin Owens and Aleister Black wasted no time going right after each other before the bell could even ring. In a brutal, anything-goes battle, Owens and Black threw everything they could get their hands on at each other as they brawled around ringside. Black slammed Owens into the commentary desk before tables and chairs littered the ring. Owens set up a pile of chairs,...

Two weeks ago, Styx founder Dennis DeYoung posted a solo rendition of the band’s 1981 hit “Best of Times” onto YouTube that he recorded in his house. Much to his amazement, it quickly racked up 847,000 views and inspired him to post another song (the band’s 1990 tune “Show Me the Way”) and start his own YouTube channel. “Thank you for everything you’ve done with the ‘Best of Times’ video,” he said. “I can’t believe it. I’ve read all the comments.” (There’s 6,015 of those and climbing.)

For the past 20 years, Styx have put their fans in an impossible situation. Anyone who attends one of their shows not only misses out on seeing founder and ex-frontman Dennis DeYoung, but the current lineup doesn’t even play many of the hit songs he wrote and sang, including “Babe” and “The Best of Times.” They only recently gave in to years of pressure and added “Mr. Roboto” into the set.

“Bohemian Rhapsody” is, by any measure, gargantuan. It’s at the $195 million mark at the U.S. box office and just got a turbo boost heading toward the magic $200M mark, with a post-Golden Globes expansion back into 1,300 theaters set for Friday, including a new “sing-along” version set for more than 750 screens. Its foreign grosses sit at $553 million. That’s big — bigger than the robot on the cover of “News of the World.” Bigger than Brian May’s stacks of Vox amps. Bigger than Rami Malek’s dentures. Big, we tell you.
But you know what’s even more behemoth than “Bohemian”? Queen.
Maybe that seems like an obvious point, but maybe not. There is a fair amount of myth-making in “Bohemian Rhapsody,” as detractors focused on ways in which the story departs from the historical record have pointed out. But there are some myths around the film itself, and...

Icons of 1970s FM rock radio, Chicago-based Styx, were and still are rocking in the free world and at the top of their game, despite a fractious history that involves a founding member, Dennis DeYoung. How much do you know about Tommy Shaw, James “Jy” Young, and Lawrence Gowan of the chart-topping band? The guys sit down with Dan Rather tonight for a revealing chat. With four consecutive multiplatinum records, the guys may be pensioner-aged, but they have no intentions of retiring. Asked by Rather why they still continue to do what they do, frontman Lawrence Gowan quipped: “We’re completely unqualified […]

Is it any wonder that Paul Rudd and Jimmy Fallon would turn to Styx for inspiration? “Tonight Show” host Fallon and “This Is 40” star Rudd slapped on the jumpsuits and period wigs to pay twisted homage to Tommy Shaw, Dennis DeYoung and company with a reenactment of the group’s 1981 music video for “Too Much Time on My Hands.” Rudd and Fallon do a masterful job of capturing the magic, re-creating every dramatic hand gesture, over-the-top facial expression and theatrical strum of a ringing guitar chord. Iconic music videos have provided The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with a comedic goldmine as the host has previously reimagined Lionel Richie's "Hello" and painstakingly recreated Extreme's "More Than Words." On Friday's episode, after Fallon and guest Paul Rudd casually mentioned they were in Styx together, the duo teamed up for a shot-for-shot remake of Styx's 1981 music video for "Too Much Time on My Hands."

Paul Rudd may have been on The Tonight Show on Friday to promote Captain America: Civil War, but the conversation quickly turned to '80s music instead. Jimmy Fallon and the Ant-Man star discussed when they were "in Styx Together" before showing the audience a clip of their shot-for-shot remake of the music video for "Too Much Time on My Hands." In the music video, Fallon dons a curly wig and a sparkly pinstripe suit while playing the keyboard, but Rudd stars as lead singer with a blue jumpsuit and blond wig. Chicago – The recent viral YouTube video of Heart’s “Stairway To Heaven” performance – before the surviving members of Led Zeppelin – proved once and for all that Ann and Nancy Wilson of that legendary band are good enough to make Robert Plant, and fans new and old, weep tears of joy. We can't believe it's almost over!
With only two new episodes left in the history of Glee, we're starting to feel all the McKinley high feels -- especially since this Friday's all-new hour takes us back to Sectionals.

And once again, we at ETonline have your exclusive sneak peek at all of the musical mayhem that is headed your way. (Gleeks, can you believe we only have one more first look after this?! Sigh…)

Sundance is always good for some infuriatingly early — as in 12 months early — awards predictions (though the hive mind wasn’t wrong about Whiplash’s J.K. Simmons or Damien Chazelle last year). But no one was expecting Jason Segel to be the first actor at this year’s Sundance to be Twitter-nominated as a 2016 Oscar contender before we even know who the 2015 Oscar winners are.Yes, Jason Segel. The guy who awkwardly wooed us all and Lindsay Weir by reciting Styx’s “Lady” as Nick Andopolis on Freaks and Geeks. The guy who did slap bets as Marshall Eriksen on How I Met Your Mother. The guy we saw full-frontal in the opening scene of Forgetting Sarah Marshall. That guy. He plays David Foster Wallace in The End of the Tour, which debuted last night here in Park City. And he was great. The announcement of Segel’s casting, a gifted...

If you haven't seen the critically-acclaimed, albeit short-lived masterpiece that is "Freaks and Geeks," we suggest you do so immediately. And if you're overdue for a binge-watch, we think now would be the perfect time to revisit some old friends.
Judd Apatow's '80s-set teenage dramedy turns 15 on September 25, but it still holds up as one of the best coming-of-age TV programs of all time. The show was not only a launching pad for the careers of mega-stars like Seth Rogen and James Franco, it was a realistic snapshot of the suburban high school experience that brought us a hilariously realistic portrayal of what it means to be young, lost, and misunderstood.
"Freaks and Geeks" lives on in our hearts (and on our Netflix rotation). Why not celebrate its anniversary by rounding up 10 life lessons we learned from the beloved series?
1. You don't need to get wasted to have a good time.

We can’t sign off for the long weekend without saluting the men and women who put the labor into Labor Day. There’s been no shortage of songs written about the drudgery of working 9-to-5, and below, here’s a list of the 15 finest songs (oops, that just reminded us that we didn’t include R.E.M.’s “Finest Worksong”) devoted to describing how we spend most of our lives. So clock out, grab a beer, salute your fellow worker, and enjoy. And, if it’s not too much work, add your favorite song about work in the comments. 1. “9 to 5,” Dolly Parton (1980) A deceptively upbeat melody and Parton’s sweet delivery run counter to the dark sentiment of such lyrics as “Barely getting by/It’s all takin’ and no givin’/they just use your mind/and they never give you credit.” 2. “She Works Hard For The Money,...

VH1's biopic CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story was a big hit for the network, pleasing fans who had long been hoping for a reenactment of the trio's Behind the Music. The TV movie's producers worked hard to re-create all the iconic moments — the videos, the fire, the declarations of insolvency — and they did pretty well, on an apparent microbudget. Watch the video below, which juxtaposes all the real-life footage of TLC and their videos with the movie's re-creations. Not bad, VH1. Freaks and Geeks Episode 8 ‘Girlfriends and Boyfriends’
Written by Judd Apatow & Paul Feig
Directed by Lesli Linka Glatter
Aired 1/17/2000 on NBC
‘Girlfriends and Boyfriends’ begins with Lindsay entering McKinley for another day of school. On her way to the patio, she passes by the other cliques you typically see in high schools dramas – jocks tossing around a football, nerds with their binders in hand, and the like. She notices them, but quickly dismisses them as she heads outside (reminding us that Freaks and Geeks is not a show that operates within cliches, allowing us to reset our expectations for the stories to follow)… that is, until she passes Generic Couple Making Out in the hallway, and becomes fixated on their grope-y embrace. If the title didn’t already give it away, that moment reveals the sole focus of the episode: sex and relationships.

Freaks and Geeks Episode 1 ‘Pilot’
Directed by Jake Kasdan
Written by Paul Feig
Aired 9/25/1999
If there’s such thing as a perfect pilot, Freaks and Geeks‘s first hour is it. Most pilots are mish-mashed groups of scenes with some overly constructed jokes, an audience-grabbing plot hook, and numerous scenes where characters explain who other characters are. ‘Pilot’ is the exact opposite of that, a beautiful, detailed photograph into a high school in suburban Detroit on the first day back from summer vacation. From that first scene, where an overwrought confession of love between a football player and cheerleader (“I just love you so much… it scares me”) is shoved off-frame to introduce us to the ‘freaks’, Freaks and Geeks established itself as a different kind of high school show, one that wasn’t afraid to be honest about shitty high school life when you’re not “one of the cool kids.

Happy 30th Birthday to tennis stud Feliciano Lopez (above, in one of his more demure photos), and Happy Birthday to two out music stars. Dan Sells from The Feeling is 31, and Chuck Panozzo is 64. Chuck was the bass player and one of the founders of Styx, and he came out and announced he was living with HIV in 2001. He left the group for a few years, but now occasionally performs with his old bandmates. Okay, time to name your top five Styx songs! Here are mine: 5. "Don't Let It End," 4."Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)," 3. "Mr. Roboto," 2. "The Best Of Times," and my #1 is a bit of a cheat. It's actually the solo hit from Styx lead singer Dennis DeYoung. "Desert Moon" is one of the greatest lost gems of the 80's, and #12 on the Snicks Top 100 Of The 80's.

Rumors continue to swirl about the new slate of "American Idol" judges. While Fox hasn't revealed any news about who may be sitting in the judges' chairs now that Ellen DeGeneres has checked out and Kara DioGuardi may not be coming back, the producers say that some of the rumors are indeed correct. Meanwhile, after showing initial reticence, Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler keeps talking as though he is close to scoring the gig, saying that it would not interfere with Aerosmith's touring plans and that he is fairly confident that he would make an excellent judge if given the opportunity.
If Tyler does score the job, he certainly has the endorsement of the readers of the MTV Newsroom. Yesterday, we wondered aloud whether or not Tyler would make for the best classic rock icon to serve as one of the show's new voices. In the end, the Tyler rumor...

Following Ellen DeGeneres' resignation from "American Idol" last Thursday (July 29), rumors started to swirl that fellow "Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi was also on her way out and that Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler would be filling in the vacant judges' chairs. Though he initially brushed off the idea when confronted with it, over the weekend he may have changed his tune. During a party in Las Vegas, he all but confirmed the idea that he was going to take the gig.
The addition of Tyler makes perfect sense, as he is a frontman who has unending charisma and a dynamic voice (and he's been doing it for over 30 years). Plus, he could offer real, genuine advice to singers looking to head more in a rock direction and could teach everybody a thing or two about putting scarves around your microphone.
But is he the best classic rock option? Check...

Jimmy Kimmel is a big "Lost" fan, so it makes perfect sense that the opening shot of his "Aloha to Lost" special following Sunday's (May 23) finale was of him watching the end of the show with his audience, several of whom were crying.

Yes, young Jacob was there, popping up at least twice (and never commented on) in the background of Kimmel's Island-fied set. (At least we saw him. Does that mean we're candidates?) The next single from Mariah Carey's upcoming album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel has been announced, and it's epic. Carey will unleash her cover of Foreigner's classic 1984 ballad "I Want to Know What Love Is," one of the most iconic song of the '80s. Many will write off "I Want to Know What Love Is" as one of the schlockiest songs every written, but it's secretly brilliant. In fact, Carey should really take it a step further and record an entire album of late '70s/ early '80s ballads. She has already covered Journey's "Open Arms" (on her 1995 album Daydream), so she might as well do her own version of "Don't Stop Believing" (or "Any Way You Want It" if she's feeling cheeky). Styx's "Come Sail Away"? Why not? Reo Speedwagon's "Keep On Loving You"? Yes please. "Hold On Loosely" by .38 Special? Absolutely! Since Carey's voice...

Not only did the industry give its bread and butter a solid upper deck (e.g., ignoring most movies people actually saw) but it did so in long, boring, jazz-hands style. Hugh Jackman humiliated himself so severely, I strongly doubt I’ll be able to sit through X-Men Origins: Wolverine without humming “All That Jazz.” Perhaps I am being harsh, but this year’s broadcast might very well have been the worst I’ve ever seen. The chief crime was the ridiculous “Council of Five” that would appear to award the actors. Is someone winning a prize or being condemned to the Phantom Zone? And no joy for The Wrestler, the most deserving film of all. Sean Penn was great in Milk, don’t get me wrong,...
