Barry Humphries has been admitted to hospital with “serious health problems” after a major surgery, reports claim.
The comedian, 89, was admitted to hospital in Sydney this week following complications with a recent hip replacement surgery, Australian news outlets report.
Appearing on Sunrise on Channel Seven on Wednesday (19 April), journalist Peter Ford said that there were “serious concerns” for Humphries, who is currently surrounded by his loved ones in hospital.
“At this moment Barry is [in] a serious condition but being kept comfortable. He’s surrounded by family,” Ford said, adding that a statement would be shared with the media imminently.
The reporter said that things were looking “tough” for Humphries – best known for his drag alter-ego Dame Edna Everage – but that he had a “fantastic” team of medical professionals supporting him.
“I reckon Barry has a fighting spirit and he’s not going to give up easily,” he said.

Last month, the 75-year-old composer announced that Nick had died after being diagnosed with gastric cancer.

The news came shortly after Lloyd-Webber revealed that Nicholas was “critically ill” with gastric cancer, also known as stomach cancer.

Kate Garraway has thanked Elton John for his surprise tribute to her husband Derek Draper on stage at his farewell tour.
Former political lobbyist Draper contracted Covid in March 2020 and was placed in a medically induced coma for several months.
He woke up several months later, but was only able to go home in April 2021 and since then, has required around-the-clock care, provided by the ITV presenter and a team of healthcare professionals.
On Monday (17 April), Garraway, Draper and their two children Darcey and Billy were invited by John to attend his Farewell Yellow Brick Road live show, which he is performing at London’s O2 Arena all month.
During the show, John dedicated “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” to the “inspiring” couple, who he said had been “through hell” but had “never given up”.

Love is Blind fans aren’t happy about the season four reunion.
While some fans “loved the drama” that unfolded in the show, the majority are calling it “the most boring Love is Blind reunion I’ve ever seen”.
Many people are also calling out the show producers to remove Nick and Vanessa Lachey as the hosts, with many saying they were “awkward as hosts” and “picked sides” with certain cast members.
This season, it was revealed that couples Kwame Appiah and Chelsea Griffin, Zack Goytowski and Bliss Poureetezadi, and Brett Brown and Tiffany Pennywell were happily married one year later.
Paul Peden and Micah Lussier came face-to-face for the first time since calling it quits, and Marshall Glaze and Jackelina Bonds still had tension between them despite Bonds not showing up for the reunion.
“Omg the Love is Blind reunion is ruthless. Is it me or are they hammering these people?...

A new report has claimed that Rupert Murdoch’s son Lachlan accused his brother, James, of leaking lines to the writers of Succession.
The acclaimed HBO series focuses on a corporate power struggle between ailing Murdoch-esque media mogul Logan Roy (Brian Cox) and his children.
While the show’s creators have often played down any direct parallels to real-life people or events, viewers have drawn numerous comparisons between the Roys and the Murdochs.
A recent episode, for instance, saw Logan stand on paper boxes to deliver an impassioned speech to the staff at his Fox News-like TV network Atn. The moment bore close similarities to a real incident from 2007, when Murdoch stood on paper boxes to address staff at the Wall Street Journal.
A new feature on the Murdochs for Vanity Fair cites a source claiming that Lachlan accused James of leaking stories to the writers of Succession.

Some movies have the knack of arriving at the most painfully right time
Some movies have the knack of arriving at the most painfully right time. Just as Damian McBride's blood is being Dysoned off the carpet at No 10 and Derek Draper's fingerprints removed from the Chequers dining table, here comes Armando Iannucci's horribly brilliant comedy about this government's culture of spin and muddle, using characters first aired in the TV show The Thick Of It. It is a satirical, cynical nightmare on the subject of the run-up, or blunder-up, to the war in Iraq, complete with the nastiest of PR attack dogs and the dodgiest of dossiers. It conjures up a compelling backstairs political world of anxiety and incompetence, bullying and humiliation.
