Unless you were paying close attention beforehand you would never know that the new sci-fi thriller "Self/less" was directed by the one and only Tarsem Singh. At worst, the often frustrating filmmaker has always had a keen eye, whether it was used helming a landmark music video such as Rem's "Loosing My Religion" or creating visual feats such as "The Fall" or "Immortals." Why Singh took such a conservative approach to this particular film, a project that could have used his stylistic flourishes, is head scratching. The concept is pretty simple. A dying billionaire, Damian Hale (Ben Kinsgley), is given the opportunity to "shed" his current body and inhabit a younger, healthier shell. In theory, it's painless; it just uses a machine to transfer the memories from one person into the brain of another. Actually that means it's just a new body that thinks it's the previous person, but...

If the twin successes of Mad Max: Fury Road and Ex Machina have something to say about genre fiction in 2015, it’s that a simple premise envisioned with thoughtful craft can pump as much blood to the cognitive parts of your brain as it does the pleasure centers. Meeting nicely in the middle between head-trip and Neanderthal action vehicle is Self/less, the latest film from acclaimed visualist and debatable storyteller Tarsem Singh (Aka Tarsem). Though his last two efforts – the Snow White and 300 also-rans, respectively, Mirror Mirror and Immortals - failed to produce Hollywood fare as bankable as his career-defining The Fall was beautiful, Self/less is unmistakably, uniquely Tarsem, despite the derivative appearance.
An apposite clash between creative forces seen and unseen makes for one of the many engaging threads to pull at while watching Self/less, a twisty thriller all about exteriors and interiors wrestling for control.

New York, Oct 1: Us fashion designer Marc Jacobs is reportedly leaving French fashion house Louis Vuitton after 16 years in order to focus on his own label - Marc Jacobs.
It is speculated that Jacobs won't renew his 10-year contract with the fashion house because he wants to concentrate on expanding his own line of products, reports contactmusic.com.
It is believed that the move could result in French luxury goods group Lvmh putting their majority stake in Marc Jacobs International up for grabs in an initial public offering (Ipo).
Despite the profitable prospect of an Ipo, a source told Wwd magazine that Jacobs and his business partner Robert Duffy "are not yet on board".
Meanwhile, Lvmh are reportedly in.

Even as he huddled with his wife in Watertown, Mass., on Friday, David Henneberry never imagined he'd come face to face with the alleged Boston bomber. "He noticed that the tarp that had been covering his boat all winter was slightly flapping," his stepson Robert Duffy tells People. "So...

First up, snicks will be liveblogging Days of Our Lives today, so plan your lunch break at work accordingly.
Filming for Once Upon a Time means that Josh Dallas won't be able to reprise his role as Fandral in Thor 2. It's unknown if the original Fandral, Zachary Levi, will take over. Levi was originally cast but had to drop out after Chuck got a final season.
Pardon me for thinking karma about his views "against gay sin" might have played a role in Manny Pacquiao's defeat this weekend, ending his seven year winning streak in the boxing ring after scorecards added up 115-113 in favor of his opponent.
You may have seen a video making the rounds of a Shell kickoff for their new drilling rig. At the ceremony, a replica rig begins to uncontrollably shoot soda all over the room. It was actually a Greenpeace stunt done largely as a flashmob.

Adam Lambert (l) gives his fashion two cents to Joe Zee (r) on tonight's All On The Line.
Watching the second season of the Sundance Channel’s All On The Line With Joe Zee, it’s abundantly evident that if anybody can help a struggling designer get it together and make it in the cutthroat business of fashion, it’s Joe Zee. Charming, direct and insightful like no other, Zee had already made a name for himself in fashion as Creative Director of Elle Magazine before the inevitable transition into television. Not unlike Project Runway’s Tim Gunn, Zee has impeccable style. And also like Gunn, he has a relatability that makes it clear he’s there to help, not knock down or condescend.
In tonight’s all-new episode, Zee works with yet another struggling designer, but this time gets a little help from fashion icon, out rocker Adam Lambert.

Restraint defined the week's best shows, from Marc Jacobs to Victoria Beckham – and Marios Schwab's dramatic debut at Halston
It isn't always the clothes that tell you which way the wind is blowing in fashion. In New York this week it was all about a cardboard box. Ok, not any old cardboard box, but hundreds of them, covering the walls at the Marc Jacobs show, while one huge, wooden-framed box wrapped in brown paper concealed the models at the end of a plywood catwalk painted to look like cardboard. Was all this cardboard – as rumoured – the genius idea of a Parsons College student who had tweeted the idea to Robert Duffy, the label's business brains? Was it intended as some comment (not again) on "homeless chic"? Who knows, but the message was that understatement was back in fashion.

Marc Jacobs’s president, Robert Duffy, with the designer. From PatrickMcMullan.com. While the rest of the industry may be fashionably late, the Marc Jacobs show is known for starting on time, as it did Monday night at the New York State Armory. Perhaps the most exclusive event of the week, it’s Marc’s time to shine. Lately, however, the spotlight has been on Robert Duffy, Marc’s business partner of 26 years and the current president of the fashion house. A little while back, Duffy got a Twitter account, and he’s been making the most of it. The Grace Coddington to Jacobs’s Anna Wintour, Duffy has been known to reveal insider details about the label. Monday night was no exception. “Marc thinks he and I should rip down our opening curtain ourselves. I’m not so sure it works. What do you think?” Duffy wrote about an hour before the show began.

Demi Moore and Brooke Shields at the Donna Karan show on Monday; Rachel Zoe and Roger Berman celebrated their wedding anniversary at the Marc Jacobs after-party that night. From PatrickMcMullan.com. Marc Jacobs president Robert Duffy may think it's "boring" to have celebrities at fashion shows, but I was delighted to see Susan Sarandon, Demi Moore, and Brooke Shields at Donna Karan on Monday. The fashion icon is celebrating her label's 25th anniversary. Also celebrating an anniversary: tastemaker Rachel Zoe, who sat in the front row across from the actresses. On Monday she celebrated 12 years of marriage to her husband, Roger Berman, who was perched next to me, directly across the runway from his style-setting wife. “It’s the same thing every year,” he said, bemoaning that his anniversary coincides with Fashion Week. Then he proudly showed me his anniversary gift, a silver peace-sign necklace, and motioned for her to hold up hers,...
