- French rock band formed in 1980 by Bertrand Cantat (vocals, guitars, occasionally harmonica), Serge Teyssot-Gay (guitar), Denis Barthe (drums), and Frédéric Vidalenc (bass, joined in 1981). Vidalenc left the band in 1995, replaced by Jean-Paul Roy.
- Firstly named Psychoz, became Noirs Désirs, then Noir Désir in 1984.
- First mini-album "Où veux-tu qu'je r'garde ?" in 1987, first album "Veuillez rendre l'âme (à qui elle appartient)" in 1989. Huge success with hit song "Aux sombres héros de l'amer" that year. Other albums are "Du ciment sous les plaines", "Tostaky", "Dies irae", "666.667 club" and "Des visages, des figures". Also there are "One trip / one noise" remix album and some compilations.
