Linda Eder's career has had the kind of variety many performers would envy everything from Broadway to solo albums to concert halls. If You See Me, her latest release, is her seventeenth solo album, which itself is an applause-worthy feat. The album itself is mostly a greatest-hits journey through theatre history, from Gershwin to Sondheim and plenty of others in between. Although some of the tracks don't quite hit the mark, others are genuinely wonderful.

Polly Bergen: Actress on Richard Nixon's 'enemies list' (image: Polly Bergen publicity shot ca. late 1950s) (See previous article: "Polly Bergen Movies: First U.S. Woman President.") As discussed in the previous post, despite its deceptively progressive premise — the first United States woman president as a palpable reality — Kisses for My President, written by veteran Paramount screenwriter Claude Binyon (Search for Beauty, The Gilded Lily) and newcomer Robert G. Kane (whose sole other movie credit was the poorly received Arnold Schwarzenegger comedy Western Villain), was an unabashedly reactionary, "traditional family values" effort. Ironically, Polly Bergen, for her part, was a liberal-minded, politically active Democrat. At around the time Kisses for My President was released, Bergen, along with Gregory Peck, James Garner, and other Hollywood personalities, publicly came out against California's Proposition 14, a 1964 ballot initiative that would have nullified the Rumford Fair Housing Act, thus paving the way for...

Famed concert. cabaret and Broadway singer, Linda Eder, returns to The McCallum Theatre on April 2 at 800 pm with her newest concert, rescheduling her appearance which was cancelled -- rather stopped mid show -- due to illness.. Based on her most recent CD 'Now' featuring the music of Frank Wildhorn. Eder is said to possess one of the greatest contemporary voices of our time. She is possibly most widely known for her Drama Desk Award winning performance as Lucy in the original Broadway production of 'Jekyll And Hyde' but her career also includes televised specials on Bravo and PBS and sold out concerts at The Greek Theatre, Radio City Music Hall, The Palace Theatre and Carnegie Hall. I had the opportunity to chat with Ms. Eder about her upcoming concert at The McCallum. Here are a few highlights from that interview.

This week's comments, questions and concerns come without any technical dance knowledge and no actual dance skills ... just straight up love for "So You Think You Can Dance."
Guest Judge: Adam Shankman
So here is how the show will work tonight: The 10 couples will proceed as if this were a normal performance show until the last 20 minutes when the bottom six will be revealed. We'll stop for a quick plug of guest judge Adam Shankman's, new film "Step Up Revolution" (including a live routine with fan favorites and former contestants Twitch, Kathryn and Phillip) and then finally, the bottom six will face the music and the judges will save one guy and one girl.

After a really thrilling opener set to Marilyn Manson's "The Beautiful People" (choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon?! What?!), we get to finding out which ill-fated foursome will be packing their bags on So You Think You Can Dance. But in a strange turn of events, every couple will perform before the elimination is announced, which means that whichever unlucky couples ship out will have hit the stage for nothing. This week's rankings:
1) Janaya & Brandon (last week: 4) have to get hip to Shawn Cheesman's Broadway to Linda Eder's "Bring On The Men", and I am obsessed with this number. Janaya could have used slightly more grit, but this is the first number of the entire season that I needed to watch again. Brandon did a fine job here, but with the music and the choreography, this really was his partner's piece to dominate, and she had to be all...

Often compared to Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland, two of her musical influences, the Minnesota native first captured public attention with her unprecedented 12- week winning streak on the TV show Star Search. The success expanded her fan base nationally and led to a leading role as Lucy Harris in the 1990 Broadway- bound musical Jekyll & Hyde. Reviewing a recent concert, Chicago Tribune Arts Editor Howard Reich raved that Eder has "the most voluptuous voice in pop music today."
