Since Vought International is probably behind the supes school at the center of The Boys spinoff Gen V, it should come as no surprise that sinister things are happening behind the scenes of the institution in a newly released trailer for the series.
While one character warns of evil people at the school, the students band together and show off their powers, even as they struggle with the fact that they’re “all f–ked up.”

Paul Rudd returns as Ant-Man on Feb. 17 with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the second sequel for Disney’s diminutive Marvel character, but he’s not the first actor to memorably portray an insect superhero.
In November 2001, Fox launched the live-action series The Tick, which starred Patrick Warburton as the well-meaning but clueless crime fighter who wore a blue suit with wiggly antennae. Ben Edlund created the satirical comic book series in 1988 while in his teens, and it spawned a 1994 Fox animated series that lasted three seasons. Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black), whose shingle landed the character rights, was a fan of the cartoon and saw Warburton as the perfect fit for Edlund’s pilot.
“Ben wrote a fantastic script, and then the joy was casting it,” Sonnenfeld tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve always loved Patrick Warburton’s acting. He’s so flat and handsome and has that — I...

Before "The Tick," and before "The Tick," but after "The Tick," there was "The Tick," the short-lived animated series that ran on Fox from 1994 to 1996.
The Tick was a parody superhero character originally created by cartoonist Ben Edlund in 1986. The character was a massive pile of muscles wrapped in a skin-tight blue bodysuit, and sporting a tiny pair of tick antennae on his head. He was incredibly strong, incredibly noble, and not at all bright. The Tick was just as in love with the iconography of superherodom as he was with committing acts of justice. He would frequently narrate his own adventures. Ironically, his powers and outfit had absolutely nothing to do with pesky, blood-sucking arachnids. When a thug points out to the Tick that most ticks have eight legs, he confidently retorts "How do you know I don't?"

The Tick creator Ben Edlund delivered a dose of bad news to fans this weekend. Despite shopping the canceled Amazon series, there are no takers.
“After much door-knocking we have found no new home for the Tick series in this current market. #SaveTheTick & #LunaTickArmy I’m sorry we could not reward your glorious support with better news,” Edlund tweeted Friday. “I am so proud of the show, of the cast and crew and writers, and so warmed by the fans.”
Still, Edlund said he’s looking for another way to continue the story.
“We will look for other opportunities to continue this story with this cast, but the current series must I’m afraid come to its end,” he wrote in a second tweet.
He urged fans to stay positive because “The Tick always comes back.”...

Bummer. After only two seasons Amazon has canceled The Tick. I don’t know about you, but I loved this series! I thought the creative team did a fantastic job with it! Both seasons were a ton of fun, action-packed, and filled with some funny humor that only The Tick franchise can deliver.
I was looking forward to Season 3, so it’s a shame that the series had to come to an end. I grew up with The Tick, and it was nice to have it around again in this wonderfully made series.
News of the cancellation came from The Tick creator Ben Edlund in the following tweets:
I'm sorry to say Amazon has chosen not to proceed with @TheTickTV I'm not sorry to say I love this show, its cast, its story, and its message. Destiny demands that my compatriots and I now seek a new home for this series.

Welcome to “TV Take,” Variety’s television podcast. In this week’s episode, TV reporter Joe Otterson talks with executive producers Jon Hurwtiz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald of YouTube’s “Cobra Kai.”
Set roughly 30 years after the original iconic “Karate Kid” films, “Cobra Kai” centers around grown-up versions of Daniel Larusso (Ralph Maccio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka).
The first season portrayed Lawrence, who was a bratty villain in the movies, as an “earnest underdog,” who has been treated poorly by society and witnessed much tragedy in his life. Meanwhile Daniel looks like he has it all, but in reality, he’s “missing Mr. Miyagi” and has forgotten some of the life senses he taught him.
All three executive producers say they were huge “Karate Kid” fans growing up, and recount the time they first asked Zabka and Maccio to reprise their roles for TV.

“If the heart was beating at a certain pulse rate in season one, it’s increasing, and it’s a heart that’s pumping … this blood mixture of comedy and caring,” says “The Tick” creator Ben Edlund about how the second season of the Amazon series, which premiered April 5, is different from the first. If there's one thing The Tick creator Ben Edlund knows about, it's superheroes. If there's one more thing Tick creator Ben Edlund knows about, it's crustaceans.
"Lobsters are practically immortal," Edlund says, giving his best marine biology lesson. "The only reason they die is molting fatigue. They only die because apparently their systems don't have enough intrinsic energy to go through whatever final molt would make them even larger, and then they just cap it."
The Tick Season 2 pays homage to the beloved blue character's origins in many ways, giving him a fresh new costume to match his comic book look. It also introduces, however, a light homage to The Tick's New England beginnings in the form...

For over half his life, Ben Edlund has been shadowed by a giant figure in a blue superhero suit. But rather than try to escape him, the creator of “The Tick” keeps finding new ways to tell stories about his unique creation.
The latest iteration of the comedic superhero series will debut its second season Friday on Amazon, but deciding to bring the Tick back to television for the third time was something that Edlund admitted wasn’t easy. “It’s a very chilling, scary concept to try to do it again,” he told IndieWire. But in this current age of superhero saturation, he keeps coming back to his peculiar creation. “I’m really excited with what we’re doing now, because I feel like this is a story we can keep telling into the future.”

The Tick, himself, Peter Serafinowicz says The Tick Season 2 doesn't feel like a superhero show.
When all 10 episodes of The Tick Season 2 premiere on Amazon Prime this Friday, viewers will be able to see star Peter Serafinowicz do something he’s never been able to do as the titular big blue superhero: move his head.
“The costume was a big improvement on the previous year,” Serafinowicz says. “I could move my head. I could bend my legs. I could do lots of things.”
The costume that The Tick dons (in a rather creative way that we won’t spoil here) in The Tick Season 2’s first episode is now the third version of the Tick-suit that Serafinowicz has worn. Serafinowicz became the second actor to step into the live-action into role of Ben Edlund’s indie comic book hero back in 2016 with Amazon Prime’s The Tick.

Griffin Newman talks about his Tick Season 2 character’s many insecurities and triumphs and how they relate to his own career.
After surviving the since-discontinued pilot season format in which Amazon Prime members' views and votes would determine which shows would survive (and which wouldn’t), The Tick went on to put out a fantastic full season’s worth of satirical superhero TV. Now it’s back for The Tick Season 2 for more misadventures with the Tick (Peter Serafinowicz), his trusty sidekick Arthur (Griffin Newman), and the rest of the gang for a new series of adventures.
The Tick Season 2 is as satisfying as it is wonderful. To dig into what makes creator Ben Edlund’s farcical show so good and deep, we spoke to Newman, who also hosts the popular Blank Check podcast, about the experience, as well as what it’s like for him as...

The Tick Season 2 tells another satisfying comic book story and finds a way to stick out in a crowded superhero landscape.
This review of The Tick contains no spoilers.
When The Tick first debuted on Amazon Prime two and a half years ago, it could reasonably lay claim to being the strangest superhero show on television….even if it wasn’t that weird.
Based on the comic book character by Ben Edlund (who also created and produces the show), The Tick Season 1 starred the invulnerable amnesiac super as he made grand speeches about destiny while wearing his trademark goofy blue costume. The show followed The Tick, Arthur, and a colorful array of superheroes in an equally colorful world accustomed to dealing with superheroes. Alan Tudyk even voiced a talking boat who was seemingly in love with one of the central characters. The Tick was Watchmen with a (non blood stained) smile.

I don’t know about you, but I really enjoyed the first season of Amazon’s The Tick. The show turned out to be action packed, filled with humor, and was a ton of fun. Now today we have the first trailer for Season 2 for you to enjoy and it’s pretty damn awesome!
The first season of the series introduced a “world where superheroes and villains have been real for decades. Arthur, an unassuming accountant with no superpowers, becomes embroiled in the middle of the battle between good and evil. When he realizes that his city is owned by a global supervillain who was long thought to be dead, he struggles to uncover the conspiracy. The first episode of Amazon’s Tom Clancy adaptation “Jack Ryan” saw its U.S. public debut Friday afternoon in Ballroom 20 at San Diego Comic-Con. And as it happens, the show works pretty well, not only as decent counter-programming for the convention, but if the episode is any guide, for the source material too.
Star John Krasinski turns out to be a very credible fit to play the lode-bearing Clancy-verse character. Co-star Wendell Pierce’s beleaguered, on-his-last-second-chance CIA official James Greer, is a good counterweight to Krasinski’s anxious yet mild-mannered approach to playing Jack Ryan.
On the other hand, given the show’s setting, legitimate concerns can be raised about the kind of roles actors of West Asian descent are offered, and how people from those cultures are portrayed. However, a last-minute reveal that felt askance of the worldview Tom Clancy expressed in his dozens of novels suggests the...

Frances McDormand will play the voice of God in Amazon’s upcoming drama series “Good Omens.”
Executive producer Neil Gaiman announced the casting Friday during a panel featuring showrunners for several Amazon Studios series and moderated by Variety executive editor Debra Birnbaum. Gaiman called it “the strangest way” he had ever cast anyone.
“We knew God would be a woman,” Gaiman said. “We were talking about great American actresses, because we wanted her to have an American voice. And out the blue one day I got an email from Frances McDormand asking to borrow my house in Scotland.”
Gaiman, whose novel “Good Omens,” co-written with Terry Pratchett, said that in adapting the book to series, “The biggest challenge for me was the absence of Terry Pratchett from this world.”

Amazon gave fans a taste of the upcoming Season 2 of its superhero comedy The Tick on Friday during the studio’s presentation at Comic-Con. It’s too far away for a release date though — the series was greenlighted for a 10-episode second season back in January, with a 2019 premiere date still to come.
On the panel, creator Ben Edlund showed off a behind-the-scenes video featuring Peter Serafinowicz (who plays The Tick) and Griffin Newman (who plays as Arthur Dent) who divulged that the Aegis superhero agency from the original comics would be a big part of Season 2, along with hints that some superheroes from the original IP wil be involved.

Lore is coming back for its second season on Amazon just a little bit closer to Halloween than last time, Comic-Con learned today with a scary peek at the series.
The hybrid anthology series based on Aaron Mahnke’s popular and often horrifying 2015-launched podcast will return on October 19, six days and a year after Season 1 launched on the Jeff Bezos streaming service
“It is scarier, it is really scarier,” executive producer Gale Anne Hurd told the San Diego Convention Center on Friday as the new Lore trailer (see above) and Season 2 debut date were revealed.
“The scope is much larger but the stories are much more intimate,” The Walking Dead Ep added, noting that along with former Exorcist showrunner Sean Crouch joining Lore’s second season, the likes of Twd alum Alicia Witt and Steven Berkoff are among the cast.

As Deadline exclusively revealed last month, Amazon are showing the first episode of their upcoming Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan at Comic-Con today but the real explosion may be the addition of the actor who was the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
Executive producer and co-showrunner Carlton Cuse announced at Amazon’s mega-panel in Ballroom 20 that Noomi Rapace will be joining the John Krasinski led series in its second season.
The BAFTA nominated actor will play Harriet “Harry” Baumann in the currently filming next round of the big play by the House of Bezos. The female lead character is described by Cuse as a “formindable” agent in Germany’s Secret Intelligence, who meets up with Kransinski’s Ryan in South America.
Set to launch its first season on August 31, the Wendell Pierce co-starring and Graham Roland co-showrun Jack Ryan was renewed for a second cycle back in April.

Good Omens co-author Neil Gaiman is a Comic-Con deity and today at the San Diego confab he revealed that Frances McDormand will perform the self-described “voice of God” in the six-part Amazon adaptation.
Coming on the speakers of Ballroom 20 to tell Gaiman he shouldn’t show any footage from the series and that he “can’t argue with God,” the Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri star made her big presence very clear.
However, heard but likely not seen in the Michael Sheen and David Tennant led and Gaiman showrun series, the two time Oscar winner will not be replacing Sir Derek Jacobi. The I, Claudius star was previously proclaimed as having the role of Metatron or the Voice of God from the satirical 1990 end of the world novel that Gaiman and Terry Pratchett penned. When a network plays the San Diego Comic-Con version of the game of thrones, it’s not exactly a “you win or you die” situation, since everyone gets a huge welcome from their fans. But thanks to two extremely popular shows, one network often gets the lion’s share of Sdcc hype, and that network — HBO — is staying home this year.
Last month, the premium cabler announced its shows “Game of Thrones” and “Westworld” will not have panels or public activations at the convention this week, citing production schedules that conflict with the multi-day pop culture event. Their only appearance, as TheWrap exclusively reported, will be at the extremely invitation-only Entertainment Weekly party Saturday night, meaning the Comic-Con hoi polloi won’t see them at all.

Exclusive: Amazon made it very clear earlier this year with a big Super Bowl ad that Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan is a big priority for them and the Jeff Bezos company are aiming to seal that deal at Comic-Con next month.
In fact, with a Jack Ryan participating panel and massive immersive experience just outside the San Diego Convention Center, Amazon is bringing its best and brightest to the confab, I’ve learned.

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for the ending of “The Tick” Season 1.]
Woe to the next showrunner who triumphantly stands before a group of TV writers and proclaims their series to be more like a “[insert number here]-hour movie.” That formulation has plagued many shows over the past decade, even if there’s not always a one-to-one correlation between that approach and the quality of a show overall.
Ben Edlund, creator of The Tick and the man behind a third TV version of the superhero he brought to life on his comic’s pages, may not have conceived of the most recent Amazon season as a movie in multiple parts. But the first half of the season, released last August, mostly played out like one. Rejecting a lot of the episode-by-episode beats of a more traditional TV show, the result was a half-season of a comedy in search of an anchor.
