Thirty years ago when Robin Thicke was 16, he recorded his first album with R&b star Brian McKnight. But the music wasn’t epic.
“[The label] was willing to put it out, but there wasn’t going to be a lot of promotion money behind it, so I said, ‘Let’s shelve it,’” he recalls.
While still recording his own music, he went on to develop his musicality by writing and producing for others, including Michael Jackson, Usher, Christina Aguilera, Pink, Jordan Knight, Brandy, Raven-Symoné, 98 Degrees, Marc Anthony, Mya, Color Me Badd, Guy Sebastian, Brownstone, Will Young, Kevon Edmonds, Ron Keating, Chante Moore and others.
But he needed to get back to making music for himself, so the early twentysomething decided he wouldn’t cut his hair until he heard his song on the radio.

The author’s mother, Suzy Rosin, circa 1965.
I have written a book called “If You Knew Suzy,” and to coincide with its debut (tomorrow), I decided to make a book trailer.
My book is a chronicle of two related stories: the two-and-a-half-year period during which my mom, Suzy Rosin, fought and lost a battle with cancer—and the year I took off from the Wall Street Journal to report, posthumously, on who my mom was as a woman, traveling the country to interview strangers about a person I once thought I couldn’t know better. I wanted to convey the universality of a story about siblings and parents and how complicated life can be even when we love and like each other. My mind kept going to this idea: “We’re all a little bit Suzy.”
I had once interviewed Sarah Ross, a social media executive working for Ashton Kutcher’s company,...

Yes, our dreams have been answered and are finally coming true! After 7 excrutiating and annoying seasons, MTV’s reality show The Hills is being cancelled. They’ve finally realized that no one wants to watch a group of rich, white 20-somethings (with no minority friends) argue over absolutely nothing.
MTV’s President of Programming, Tony Disanto, said in a statement, “We are lucky and honored to have worked with this cast and tell their stories for this long, and we are grateful to the many dedicated fans who have stuck with us over the years. We owe it to those fans, the cast and the show to go out on a high note. And this season will deliver on that goal in terms of drama, story, real emotion and an organic culmination of this saga.”
Real emotion? Who are we kidding here, everyone knows there is a group of...

After a private Mediterranean cruise with 12 pals that sailed from Aug. 12 through 16 along the French Riviera, Leonardo DiCaprio got an early jump on Labor Day by going back to work Monday in Paris for his latest movie, Inception, directed by Dark Knight's Christopher Nolan and which started shooting in London last month. Trade reports have described Inception as a contemporary sci-fi action thriller set within "the architecture of the mind." But for DiCaprio and his costars, La Vie En Rose Oscar winner Marion Cotillard and Juno Oscar nominee Ellen Page, the setting was one of the more recognizable bridges on the Seine.

All week long, it's been as if Jessica Simpson's gravitational pull was simply too strong for those in the media to ignore. Since unveiling her new "husky" look during a performance last Sunday at a Florida Chili cook-off, tabloid and mainstream news outlets alike have weighed in on the issue of Simpson's girth, with everyone from her former husbands and trainers, to fashion pundits, to even Kim Kardashian offering an opinion.Friday night, Simpson herself made reference to the media maelstrom during a concert in Lexington, Kentucky. "Because of my faith, I believe t ...

Tonight I caught a midnight screening of Dead Snow at the world famous Egyptian theater. After 7 days of seeing romantic dramas and quirky comedies, I was really in the mood for some gory zombie mayhem. Dead Snow is that Norwegian film about Nazi zombies. It's a simple enough story - a group of people head out to remote cabin in the mountains only to discover a party of undead Nazis terrorizing the area. To be honest, I didn't really care about how great the story was (or wasn't), because in the end, I had a great time watching this, and when it comes to cult zombie movies, that experience is what counts the most. There's not much new to the Dead Snow story that we haven't seen before. Equal number of guys, equal number of girls, out at a remote cabin without cell phone reception. Creepy guy shows up,...

After 7 seasons as the upbeat, encouraging and often incoherently insane middle judge on Fox's titanically successful "American Idol," the New York Post in addition to Ok! Magazine are reporting that Paula Abdul may soon be bowing from the show. Described by her representative in an interview with the Post's Page Six as "shocked and saddened" at the recent death of aspiring "AI" contestant Paula Goodspeed, Abdul was noted by another source as feeling "haunted" by Goodspeed's spirit.Found dead in her car last week outside of Abdul's Sherman Oaks, California home, 30 year-old Goodspeed had reportedly sent ...
