Andi Engel was born on November 11, 1942 in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany. He was a director and actor, known for Melancholia (1989), Class Relations (1984) and Zeil um Zehn (1990). He was married to Pamela Engel. He died on December 26, 2006 in Lübeck, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
Co-Founder with his ex-wife Pam Balfry of the arthouse distributor and
exhibitor 'Artificial Eye' and owners of the London cinemas Renoir and
Chelsea Cinema in 1976.
He was the partner of Gudrun Hartmann.
He was awarded the "Chevalier De l'Ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres" from the government of France for services to French cinema.
The film, Melancholia, was awarded the London Evening Standard Award for Best Newcomer.
He established the magazine, Kino, in Berlin, Germany.
