Gina Carano has filed a lawsuit against Walt Disney Co. and Lucasfilm over her “The Mandalorian” exit.
Carano was fired in February 2021 from the Disney+ series; she portrayed character Cara Dune.
Now, Carano’s legal filing (via The Hollywood Reporter) cites that she was fired for discrimination and wrongful termination. Carano alleged she was fired for her political affiliations and gender. She is seeking a court order for Lucasfilm to recast her, and $75,000, plus punitive damages.
IndieWire has reached out to Disney for comment.
“Some of us have been unjustly singled out, harassed, persecuted and had our livelihoods stripped away because we dared to encourage conversation, asked questions, and refused to go along with the mob,” Carano said in a statement. Carano also shared a lengthy statement on X.
Elon Musk, owner of X, is helping fund Carano’s lawsuit. In 2022, Carano starred in and produced the movie “Terror on the Prairie...

Spoiler Alert: This recap contains spoilers from the Season 1 finale of Disney+/Lucasfilm’s Ahsoka, directed by Rick Famuyiwa and written by Dave Filoni.
Heading into tonight’s Season 1 finale of Ahsoka, fans knew we were flying to a cliffhanger; that Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) would make the jump to hyperspace via the space loop while some portion of Ahsoka and friends would be left behind without a prayer in the midst of the green tundra tumbleweeds of Peridea in a galaxy far, far away.
What didn’t happen in this episode were any major cameos from Star Wars canon dramatis personae of yore, i.e., Princess Leia or Luke Skywalker or Boba Fett or Baby Yoda. No, we got our fill of that with C-3Po in the last episode, when he appeared to defend Hera’s rogue mission before the snarky Galactic council.
Where do we go from here?...

Samuel L. Jackson is a legendary actor, an anime connoisseur, the man with a thousand franchises, and the baddest guy alive. Jackson is responsible for some of the most iconic characters in modern cinema, and also one notorious potty mouth — even if Jonah Hill is the one with the record for most cursing in film — which made his role in "Star Wars" more than a bit strange.
When he was first introduced in "The Phantom Menace," Mace Windu spent most of the runtime sitting on a chair in the Jedi Council Chamber, talking down to Anakin and not much else. It wasn't until "Attack of the Clones" that Mace Windu finally reached the potential of a "Star Wars" character played by Samuel L. Jackson, wielding the first purple lightsaber in live-action "Star Wars," being a badass that stops parties, and giving us some of the best fighting moves in the prequels.

When Zack Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel’ was released in 2013, we all thought a new era of DC had started since the movie was supposed to kick off a cinematic universe that was supposed to bring DC into the cinematic universe race with Marvel. However, ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ received a mixed critical response, and despite grossing over $800 million worldwide, it was deemed a commercial disappointment since it was the first live-action movie that assembled Batman and Superman together.

Warner Bros. is preparing to move away from what we once knew as the Dceu, which kicked off with Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" a decade ago. That whole endeavor was messy, but WB was originally all-in on the filmmaker's plans. One film that got dragged through the mud the whole way through was "The Flash," which finally hit theaters this summer with disastrous financial results. However, a previous incarnation of the project could have introduced a different Thanos-level threat to the Dceu.

Disney+’s new lengthy trailer for Star Wars: Ahsoka provides our first look at a live-action Thrawn. Lars Mikkelsen provided the character’s voice in the animated Star War Rebels series and reprises his role in the latest addition to the Star Wars franchise.
In an interview with EW, Mikkelsen offered a short description of Thrawn.
“He’s a top strategist,” said Mikkelsen. “He’s always seven paces ahead of anybody else. And ruthless, of course. But only when it’s needed, actually. I think he thrives also with the creativity of the surroundings. I mean, he’s not using people in a bad way. He’s using their creativity to reach his goals.”
Rosario Dawson leads the cast in the titular role. The series also stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, and Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati.

Disney+ has released a new trailer for the upcoming “Star Wars” series, “Ahsoka,” providing fans a look at the series’ villain, Grand Admiral Thrawn.
It was announced in April at the Star Wars Celebration fan convention, that Lars Mikkelsen would be set to reprise his role as the “Star Wars” villain and embody the character in the live-action series. Thrawn was originally created by author Timothy Zahn as part of a series of 1990s Star Wars novels chronicling the events following 1983’s “Return of the Jedi,” and he quickly became a fan-favorite character.
However, after Disney purchased Lucasfilm in 2012, Thrawn’s character was removed from the official “Star Wars” canon. Then in 2016, Dave Filoni revived the character and brought him back into a galaxy far, far away after adding him to the “Star Wars Rebels” animated series. Throughout the show, Mikkelsen voiced the character.

The latest trailer for Disney+’s Star Wars series Ahsoka ups the action.
The two-minute clip released Tuesday showcases Rosario Dawson as the titular Jedi while also expanding the focus from an earlier teaser to include both more battle scenes and a longer look at Dawson’s co-stars, who include Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, the late Ray Stevenson as Jedi-turned-mercenary Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn and Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger.
Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano, who made her debut in season two of The Mandalorian, states early in the trailer that she’s looking to stop Thrawn from becoming “heir to the Empire.” Winstead’s character convinces Ahsoka to find Sabine and enlist her in the coming fight.

Whether it’s the questionable FX, the lead star’s very controversial dalliances, or just audiences being burned one too many times by Comic Book Films, there’s one movie that is all anyone can talk about. And look, I get it. There was a lot of craziness that went on during this production and had more people come and go due to creative differences than any movie we’ve covered on the show.
Warning you guys and gals right now, if you haven’t seen The Flash, you’re going to want to turn back now, because this is where things get Super spoilery.
Warner Brothers tried getting a Flash movie off the ground in the late 80’s with comic writer Jeph Loeb being brought in to write the screenplay. Unfortunately nothing ever came of the property until 2004 when David S Goyer signed on to write, direct and produce a new Flash.

Warner Bros. and DC Studios’ tentpole summer release, “The Flash,” finally hits theaters this weekend, but the superhero movie had been beset by delays and off-screen controversies involving star Ezra Miller in the years before its release.
“The Flash” was initially revealed back in October 2014 as part of the inaugural DC Universe slate. It received a 2018 release date, alongside eventual releases like “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “Suicide Squad,” “Wonder Woman,” “Aquaman” and “Shazam.” However, parts of that plan didn’t come to fruition. Standalone “Cyborg” and “Green Lantern” movies were scrapped, and a two-part “Justice League” movie by Zack Snyder became one film.
Miller, who uses they/them pronouns, first debuted as the Flash in a cameo in 2016’s “Batman v Superman” and “Suicide Squad,” before joining the cast of “Justice League” in 2017. Ahead of the solo “Flash” movie, their only other appearances as the hero were cameos...

On Friday, June 16, an Ezra Miller movie called The Flash will finally play on cinema screens around the world. For Miller and members of the Warner Bros. Pictures team who were there in 2014 when the project was first announced, it is the culmination of nearly a decade of work, false starts, and the arduous process of seeing various directors and writers board and exit the production.
And yet, the actual atmosphere around the release seems relatively muted. Until the movie’s Los Angeles premiere earlier this week, Miller was conspicuously absent from all press days, leaving director Andy Muschietti and his sister/producer Barbara Muschietti, as well as stars Sasha Challe and Michael Shannon, to do all the interviews. Meanwhile, social media chatter seems to be as much concerned with the controversy surrounding Miller, as well as the film’s troubled production history, as it is with anything in the actual picture.

On today’s episode of Crew Call we talk with The Mandalorian EP and director of season 3 episodes one, seven and eight, Rick Famuyiwa.
Like the Westerns that Star Wars itself is based on, season 3 continued to dwell in that genre as it focused on Bounty Hunter Din Djarin’s (Pedro Pascal) unification with the Mandalorians. Of note here is the redemption of the tribe’s former leader Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff). Famuyiwa says we see “what she lost and what she’s gained, in terms of the trust from her people and her own leadership.”
(L-r): A Bartender Droid (Seth Gabel), Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal)
Famuyiwa explains that just as “Westerns started to grow and go beyond their rugged individualism to how we make a society work” so does The Mandalorian in season 3.

Exclusive: Showtime’s hit drama The Chi, which films entirely in Chicago, has paused production on its upcoming sixth season, effective today. The decision was made Monday after a second consecutive day of shooting was disrupted by WGA strike-related picketing.
Eight episodes from Season 6 have been completed; they were shot before the strike. I hear The Chi, whose seasons have consisted of 10 episodes each, had been slated to shoot for another couple of weeks from finished scripts. It is unclear when production will resume.
Showtime has not set a Season 6 premiere date yet. It is possible that the season gets split into two, so fans get fresh episodes sooner. Reps for Showtime and The Chi producer 20th Television declined comment.
After writers Sunday night were alerted on social media that The Chi production had asked those working on the show to be at the Cinespace Chicago Film Studios before 4 Am Monday to avoid picketers,...

Showtime’s The Chi is the latest series whose production has been disrupted by the ongoing writers strike. According to sources, the hit drama, which is based in Chicago, filmed Friday morning before moving to another location, which had a picket line already in place.
As a result, no shooting was done at that particular place. Filming on the series, which I hear also was disrupted last week, is slated to resume Monday.
The picketing on The Chi was a result of a Rapid Response appeal by two WGA strike captains. It was amplified by veteran showrunner Warren Leight who has emerged as a Twitter “dispatcher,” helping to coordinate WGA production shutdown efforts, mostly in and around New York.
Hey Chicago actors, writers, and allies… help out.

The Sundance Institute has announced the fellows for the 2023 Directors, Screenwriters, and Native labs. For the past 40 years, Sundance Institute labs have hosted global independent filmmakers for in-depth tutorship on the creative process. Afterward, they’re honored at the annual Sundance Producers Celebration keynote at the festival in January itself. The festival itself returned this year in rousing in-person fashion, but the individual creative labors occur throughout the rest of the year.
This year’s Directors and Screenwriters Labs will support 12 fellows, with five fellows selected for the Native Lab. Artists will develop original works under the guidance of accomplished creative advisors.
The Native Lab has been a significant part of supporting Indigenous filmmakers for nearly two decades. The 2023 Native Lab will be held online May 1 through 5 and continues from May 8 through 13 in person in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This Star Wars: The Mandalorian article contains spoilers.
If there’s one thing the galaxy far, far away, loves, it’s a good MacGuffin. From R2-D2’s secret Death Star plans to Sith Wayfinders, we’ve seen many of these storytelling devices over the past 46 years. Interestingly enough, The Mandalorian season 3 has just discarded one such MacGuffin in monumental style. In one fateful scene in “The Return,” showrunner Jon Favreau and executive producer Rick Famuyiwa put an end to thousands of years of Mandalorian history.
Star Wars has equally made its name on hard goodbyes, but in The Mandalorian, forget the heroic demise of Paz Vizsla, the fiery farewell of Moff Gideon, or even the realization we’ll likely never see Pedro Pascal beneath Din Djarin’s helmet again, the real loss of season 3 is the Darksaber.
The Long History of the Darksaber

Star Wars has equally made its name on hard goodbyes, but in The Mandalorian, forget the heroic demise of Paz Vizsla, the fiery farewell of Moff Gideon, or even the realization we’ll likely never see Pedro Pascal beneath Din Djarin’s helmet again, the real loss of season 3 is the Darksaber.

This post contains spoilers for the season 3 finale of "The Mandalorian."
"Star Wars" is full of exhilarating action. Ever since "A New Hope" hit theaters in 1977, the franchise's lightsaber fights specifically have captivated audiences everywhere. George Lucas initially drew heavy inspiration from classic samurai movies for the lightsaber duels in the original trilogy before incorporating increasingly more complex and intricately choreographed lightsaber battles in his prequel movies. After that, the Disney-backed sequel trilogy returned to the basics, dropping the acrobatics and high leaps in favor of more grounded combat.
The thing is, there is more to the close-quarter matches in a galaxy far, far away than lightsaber duels. Even in the prequels, Jedi duels were relatively scarce in number compared to other types of action scenes. Curiously, however, the franchise has seldom paid much attention to the visual style of these sequences — with some notable exceptions, the most recent of...

Spoiler Alert: The following contains details of the Season 3 finale of Disney+/Lucasfilm’s The Mandalorian, episode “Chapter 24: The Return,” written by Jon Favreau and directed by Rick Famuyiwa.
Season 3 of The Mandalorian wrapped with a nice bow versus any grave cliffhanger, or guest appearance from a Star Wars canon character ala Season 2, when a digitized version of Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker swooped in to scoop up Grogu for Jedi training.
Thrawn in the ‘Ahsoka’ trailer
Heading into today’s episode, you could say we were all expecting a cameo by General Admiral Thrawn before his big splash in Mandalorian spinoff Ahsoka due out this August; he being one of the big bad Star Wars villains, having debuted in the 1991 Timothy Zahn novel Heir to the Empire, which took place post-Return to the Jedi. Thrawn, the most evil dead in a universe sans Darth Vader and the Emperor,...

This post contains spoilers for the season 3 finale of "The Mandalorian," "The Return."
After the penultimate episode of "The Mandalorian" season 3 aired, there was visible anxiety about the concluding episode, especially in relation to Din Djarin's (Pedro Pascal) fate on Mandalore. Would Mando be able to make it out unscathed, and would Grogu be okay in such a dangerous, high-stakes situation? Director Rick Famuyiwa, who helmed the final two episodes of this season, cranked up things to 100 after a string of middling-to-good episodes in a largely uneven third season. On the bright side, we got a ton of lore progression and "Star Wars Rebels" tie-ins, setting up the events to come in "Ahsoka."
Thankfully, Famuyiwa found a way to end season 3 on a rather lovely, wholesome note. The Mandalorians fight against the beskar-armored Imperial Super Commandos valiantly, Din is able to escape his captivity (with the aid of Ig-Grogu), and...

This Star Wars: The Mandalorian article contains spoilers.
Before The Mandalorian season 3, few Star Wars fans would have ever even considered a potentially tragic end to Din Djarin’s story on the show. Or an end at all. After all, Pedro Pascal’s stoic bounty hunter with a heart of gold has quickly become one of the most beloved and popular characters in a franchise that doesn’t often kill off its valuable IP. Yet, for some viewers, season 3 may have set the stage for just that: Din’s exit from The Mandalorian as the show, and the Mandoverse as a whole, moves on to a new stage.
The penultimate episode of season 3, “The Spies,” ends with Din stuck in a dire situation. Captured by Moff Gideon’s commandos and dragged deeper into the top-secret Imperial installation on Mandalore, we don’t know what plans the villain has for Din...

Exclusive: Fresh off the conclusion of Amazon’s long-running sci-fi series The Expanse, actor Wes Chatham is heading back to space as the latest addition to Disney+’s live-action Ahsoka series.
Chatham will play the right-hand man to Lars Mikkelsen’s Admiral Thrawn in the series, multiple sources have told Deadline.
Ahsoka is Disney+’s spin-off to the hit series The Mandalorian. Rosario Dawson stars as the titular Ahsoka Tano. Written by Star Wars Rebels co-creator Dave Filoni and executive produced by Filoni and Jon Favreau, Ahsoka will continue the character’s story from The Mandalorian. The line-up of directors set to work on the series includes Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Patel, and Rick Famuyiwa.
Plot details for Ahsoka have been kept under wraps, but Disney and Lucasfilm recently shared a teaser trailer for the series at Star Wars Celebration London.

This post contains spoilers for Season 3, Episode 7 of "The Mandalorian," "The Spies."
After last week's languid, lighthearted episode in the latest season of "The Mandalorian," we have been treated to an extremely high-stakes penultimate episode meant to gear us toward an explosive finale. Delivering a cold open that strengthens the show's connections with the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy, Rick Famuyiwa's "The Spies" does not waste any time in setting up multiple future storylines in an attempt to fill in the gaps or fleshing out the canon.
We finally see Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) in the flesh after being teased about his return for six episodes, and the big baddie is busy conversing with the Imperial Shadow Council, who are working overtime to reinstate the Empire covertly. We see Admiral Pellaeon (Steve Pemberton), who has a direct connection to Grand Admiral Thrawn, along with Commandant Hux (Brian Gleeson), known to...

Last week at Star Wars Celebration, Disney released a flurry of exciting announcements, such as an Ahsoka trailer and three new movies (which are really, truly going to happen this time, promise!). Yet while fans embraced the news, the crown jewel of Disney’s Star Wars TV universe — The Mandalorian — was arguably having its worst week ever.
The show’s latest episode, “Guns for Hire,” scored the drama’s weakest fan reviews (via IMDb) since the neo-Western sci-fi drama launched four years ago. The episode wasn’t entirely an outlier, as fan gripes about the show’s third season have been rising in general, with the series’ Rotten Tomatoes user reviews this season plummeting from their usual low-90s perch to just 57 percent and its IMDb average similarly (though not as sharply) ebbing downward.
