Originally envisioned as a British mockumentary spin-off starring Ricky Gervais and co-created by Steven Knight, The Office soon became one of the most popular sitcoms in history. Due to its popularity, the series has received numerous international versions, each dealing with the life of a small company dealing, in most cases, with paper. The American iteration starring Steve Carrell and John Krasinski is by far the most famous of these international versions, and if you remember, we have recently reported that the series would be getting another spin-off.
Plans for a spin-off of The Office have been there since 2008, and as we reported not that long ago, it has been confirmed that original showrunner Greg Daniels is indeed moving forward with a new version of the series. The series was, in the meantime, confirmed to be a spin-off rather than a reboot or revival of the original series. Today, we...

Greg Daniels and Michael Koman could return to The Office universe, with Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus) as cast members of the proposed spinoff. Gleeson and Inpacciatore would be part of an ensemble for the project, which Deadline says is close to entering production. Plot details about The Office spinoff remain a mystery.
We know only a little about the project beyond its setting in The Office universe. Daniels wants fans to know it’s not a reboot, even though it takes place in the same arena as the Steve Carell-led mockumentary series focusing on the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company employees. Daniels says the new show could feature a camera crew doing a documentary about a subject outside the day-to-day lives of office workers surviving the daily grind and their toxic boss.
Domhnall Gleeson launched his acting career in 2001 as a character named Byrne in an episode of Rebel Heart.

The new iteration of “The Office” currently in development has started to flesh out its cast.
Variety has confirmed with sources that Sabrina Impacciatore and Domhnall Gleeson are attached to the project, which remain in development at Universal Television. They would occupy two roles in what would be an ensemble cast, like the original versions of the show.
Reps for Utv declined to comment.
Greg Daniels and Michael Koman are co-creating the new series. It has previously been reported that it is not a reboot of “The Office” but is set in the same universe, meaning it would likely be set in a different office setting with all new characters.
Gleeson has recently starred in shows such as “Alice & Jack,” “The Patient,” “Frank of Ireland,” and “Run.” He is perhaps best known for his role as General Hux in the new “Star Wars” film trilogy. He has also starred in films such as “Frank,...

Jenna Fischer put her acting skills to the test on the set of 2024’s Mean Girls. The actress revealed this week she filmed the movie with a broken shoulder.
“I shot for one day on Mean Girls, and then I didn’t have to shoot for a month,” Fischer told People. “And in that month I went on a ski trip and I fell on a sidewalk and I broke my shoulder. So I had to shoot the rest of the movie with a very newly broken shoulder.”
Fischer played Ms. Heron, the daughter of protagonist Cady (Angourie Rice) in the musical movie. After she returned with her arm in a sling, the actress said the crew got creative in accommodating the injury.

Have you ever wondered what really happens behind the scenes of your favorite television show? Olivia Williams, a guest star on the hit NBC sitcom Friends, recently opened up about her “harrowing” time on set.
Even though Friends’ last episode aired in 2004, the sitcom is still a popular choice for comfort and comedy in today’s world. Getting cast as a guest star, thus, must have been a huge thrill back in the nineties. It meant getting closer to the main stars and also becoming more widely recognized. Some actors, though, have been candid about their less-than-refined experiences.

Although Jenna Fischer has starred in multiple other roles, perhaps the one she is best known for to date is none other than that of Pam Beesly in The Office. Yet, as exceptional as her performance was in the role that had many (if not all) viewers hooked, this very role seems to have posed a barrier when she earned the opportunity to work with Matt LeBlanc.

As surprising as it may seem, the truth is that Fischer almost starred in the lead opposite the Friends alum in a sitcom. However, simply because fans couldn’t imagine her renowned character Pam marrying LeBlanc’s equally famous character Joey, the 50-year-old actress lost out on her chance to work with the 56-year-old heartthrob!

As “The Office” showrunner Greg Daniels looks to create a new series in the world of Dunder Mifflin, he’s tapped “Nathan for You” co-creator Michael Koman to help lead the project, sources tell Variety.
Daniels and Koman would serve as co-creators of the prospective series, which has not yet been greenlit to series and is still in development at Universal Television. It is not a reboot of “The Office” but is set in the same universe, meaning it would likely be set in a different office setting with all new characters.
Daniels opened a development room in January 2024 to begin working on the new iteration of the hit NBC mockumentary sitcom, which ran from 2005 to 2013 and was adapted from Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s British series of the same name. A joke from Mean Girls which Lindsay Lohan pushed back against seems to be missing from at-home versions of the film released last week.
The movie musical version of the film, which began as Tina Fey’s beloved 2004 movie starring Lohan and then went to Broadway before making its way back to the screen this year, became available on digital platforms last week after its theatrical debut in January.
The film, which opened 2024 with a bang at the box office, featured a cameo from Megan Thee Stallion telling Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) that “Y2K fire crotch is back.”
In 2006, a TMZ video made headlines for oil empire heir Brandon Davis’ insulting comments about Lohan, which included him referring to the actress as a “fire crotch.”
The controversial joke is now missing from some versions of the film’s digital release, including an edition rented from Amazon by The Hollywood Reporter.

Australia’s favorite family of Blue Heeler dogs is expanding its YouTube presence. BBC Studios‘ social media division has launched Bluey Book Reads, an original series that pairs Bluey stories with celebrity narrators.
In each episode of Bluey Book Reads, a special guest reads from one of the dozens of Bluey books that follow the domestic life of the titular seven-year-old dog and her family of four. The American version of "The Office" is one of the most beloved TV comedies of all time. After originally airing from 2005 to 2013, the NBC series garnered 42 Emmy nominations and five wins, including Outstanding Comedy Series for the show's second season. Years later, the game-changing mockumentary series found renewed life in streaming as one of the most consistently watched shows on Netflix before becoming an exclusive on NBC Universal's streaming service Peacock.
In recent years, Peacock has given "The Office" a bit of a makeover with the so-called "Superfan Episodes," offering extended cuts of episodes with longer versions of scenes that never aired on TV and re-inserted deleted scenes, some of which never even made it to the special features of physical media releases. While the extended cuts don't necessarily result in better episodes, they do offer some amusing new bits and extended variations on scenes you already love. In fact,...

Dakota Johnson hilariously reminisced with Seth Meyers on “Late Night” about their appearances on the “The Office” series finale, which aired on NBC in May 2013. Johnson, who was still years out at the time from her breakthrough in the “Fifty Shades” franchise, appeared as a new accountant named Dakota. Meyers, meanwhile, was seen on a television doing a fictional version of “Weekend Update” from “Saturday Night Live.” Johnson was a big fan of “The Office,” so she jumped at the chance to be a guest star on the last episode.
“That was honestly the worst time of my life,” Johnson quipped. “They were like, ‘Do you want to be in the series finale?’ And I was like, ‘Of course,’ thinking that I’d show up for like half a day. I was there for two weeks. And I’m barely in the fucking show.”

This coming Sunday brings the annual Stateside sporting behemoth known as the Super Bowl, and that means a giant advertising opportunity for a host of brands, including studios looking to tease their films. While once the trailers simply ran on the day, now we have teasers ahead of the day, including an inventive, funny spot for John Krasinski's new family fantasy comedy If, which stars Ryan Reynolds. Here, Reynolds and very-much-not Krasinski introduce a peek behind the scenes of the film…
Yes, that is Randall Park subbing in for Krasinski, much to Ryan's confusion. The whole bit riffs on this classic cold open from the US version of The Office in which Krasinski's Jim and Pam (Jenna Fischer) bring in their actor friend Steve (Park) to prank Dwight (Rainn Wilson).
The movie's credits don't mention Park (unless he has a voice role that has yet to be added to the list), but If does,...

When The Office went off the air more than 10 years ago, we had to assume the doors of Dunder Mifflin were closed to fans for good. But, with nostalgia getting a promotion and reboots now in a premium parking spot, it wouldn’t be entirely off base to expect the series to come back in some form. And so how about a movie?
Talk of a reboot of The Office sprouted again last month, but one former (perhaps surprising) The Office contributor has an idea for getting the original cast back together. Appearing on the Office Ladies podcast, actor Bryan Cranston – who directed the season nine episode “Work Bus” – showed curiosity on the subject, saying, “Let’s say that there’s not a reboot series, but what if there was a movie? Something to where we can see where these people are. These people in the entire cast that we’re curious about.

For over four years now, "The Office" stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey have been revisiting episodes of the popular sitcom on their enthusiastic rewatch podcast, "Office Ladies." This week, former episode director (and "Breaking Bad" star) Bryan Cranston stopped by the show (via Entertainment Weekly) and finally said what everyone's probably been thinking: there should be a "The Office" movie.
"Let's say that there's not a reboot series, but what if there was a movie?" Cranston spitballed when chatting with Kinsey and Fischer about his own time on the long-running series. If you don't remember the actor from "The Office," it's because he wasn't actually on screen; instead, he served as the man behind the camera for season 9's pie stand field trip episode "Work Bus." When reminiscing about the show, Cranston broached the topic of a sequel film that would check in on the Dunder Mifflin staff, pitching...

What is it about a woman in charge that brings out the critics?
No matter the genre, you can always find a female lead character that gets a strong negative audience response. Call it a hot take, but we think a lot of those women deserved better than the treatment they got.
Let's be real; some of these characters are children. How terrible could they really be?
These unpopular ladies definitely deserved better from fans, and we're prepared to die on that hill.
Here's why we'll stan these women 'til the end, even if we're the only ones.
Maggie Pierce: Grey's Anatomy
The condemnation thrown at Maggie Pierce was always over the top, especially considering she's a young, gifted, Black surgeon with a complicated past whose unrelenting optimism should have charmed viewers.
It's totally understandable that folks didn't love the Ellis-Richard-love-child storyline she brought with her to Grey's Anatomy, but...

Amid news of a potential spinoff of The Office, two of the hit show’s original stars have expressed interest in a different sort of revival.
Earlier this year it was revealed that showrunner Greg Daniels is in the early stages of developing a new series inspired by The Office but with a different cast.
However, franchise stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey were presented with a different idea for a reboot – a movie – and they had some thoughts about the idea.

During an episode of their Office Ladies podcast, Angela and Jenna spoke to Bryan Cranston. He floated the idea of getting the original cast back to film a movie.
He described his ideas as being “something to where we can see where these people are.”

Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey’s latest Office Ladies podcast found Bryan Cranston in an expansive mood. The Breaking Bad star floated some ideas for a revival of The Office, but not for television. Cranston wants a full-blown movie.
“Let’s say that there’s not a reboot series, but what if there was a movie?” said Cranston, who directed The Office episode Work Bus in season 9. “Something to where we can see where these people are. These people in the entire cast that we’re curious about. We wondered at the end, where did they go? What did become of them?”
Fischer and Kinsey were all for it. “I would do it,” Kinsey said. “I would do it for my kids, because I think they would think that’s fun.”

Fans of NBC’s beloved sitcom “The Office” got huge news at the start of 2024 when it was revealed that showrunner Greg Daniels had opened a development room to officially begin planning a reboot. Details on a new iteration of “The Office” are scarce, but Emmy winner Bryan Cranston recently floated the idea to some of the sitcom’s original cast members of doing it as a film instead of a series.
“Let’s say that there’s not a reboot series, but what if there was a movie?” Cranston asked Jenna Fischer (Pam) and Angela Kinsey (Angela) while guesting on their “Office Ladies” podcast. “Something to where we can see where these people are. Lindsay Lohan did not appreciate a line in the new Mean Girls film that appears to reference a crude comment about the actress that made headlines nearly two decades ago.
A scene in the Paramount movie, which topped the domestic box office over the weekend, includes Megan Thee Stallion portraying herself as she offers support for Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) by saying, “Y2K fire crotch is back.” Back in 2006, a TMZ video made headlines over oil empire heir Brandon Davis’ insulting comments about Lohan, which included him referring to the actress as a “fire crotch.”
“Lindsay was very hurt and disappointed by the reference in the film,” Lohan’s publicist, Leslie Sloane, said in a statement shared with People and other media outlets.

As much as people complain about Hollywood putting out the same things year after year, the fact remains that name recognition gets people into theater seats. Moreover, remakes and reboots give filmmakers an opportunity to retell beloved stories from a different perspectives. In this age of high-budgets and higher-expectations, reboots and remakes are among the only types of movies that major studios like to make these days.
So whether you’re feeling cynical about this year’s offerings or optimistic about the second swings filmmakers are taking, here are the biggest reboots and remakes coming in 2024.
Mean Girls (January 12)
Although the promotional materials tried to do their best to conceal it, the 2024 Mean Girls doesn’t so much adapt the beloved 2004 comedy, but rather the Broadway musical that followed. Which means that, yes, viewers will hear more songs than “Jingle Bell Rock.” Singer Reneé Rapp reprises her stage performance as lead Plastic Regina George,...

MLK Jr. weekend offered something for everyone at the movies, but two new movies exceeded expectations as they took the top two spots despite weather issues across the country. Read on for the weekend box office report.

Shine your Dundie and break out the Jell-o mold because The Office may be coming back…sort of. After years of the threats of downsizing and mergers, the Dunder Mifflin universe is actually looking at an expansion, as showrunner Greg Daniels is planning on meeting with writers this week to discuss potential ideas.
With an ensemble cast that remains nearly unmatched in how they were utilized in both office-wide stories and through their own individual arcs, there would no doubt be plenty to explore in a spin-off of The Office. And there is plenty of fan support – hey, the Kickstarter for the failed Stanley Hudson spin-off raised well over $300,000. But it should be made clear that it’s likely that this project will “be set in a new office with new characters but live within the same world” as the hit NBC mockumentary.

Exclusive: The long-awaited expansion of The Office universe appears to be getting closer to becoming a reality.
Greg Daniels, who adapted NBC’s The Office for American audiences based on the hit BBC series of the same name from Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, is setting up a development room with his trusted writers, sources tell Deadline. It is set to begin work on Tuesday to explore ideas for a follow-up series.
The potential new series, which is not a reboot, would likely be set in a new office with new characters but live within the same world as the Steve Carell-led mockumentary series which follows employees at the Scranton, Pennsylvania, branch of the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company.
A documentary crew doing a documentary about a different subject is a possibility as a premise for a possible Office universe extension, Daniels has said.

Get in, loser. We’re going to make some money at the box office. Regina George (Reneé Rapp) and the Plastics of Paramount‘s Mean Girls wore green on Thursday when the cult classic comedy musical adaptation banked $3.25M in previews. The latest iteration of Mean Girls began burning books on the silver screen (again) at 4 pm on Thursday, giving the film written by Tina Fey a solid start to the weekend. Before Mean Girls was destined for the big screen, it was planned as a Paramount+ exclusive. However, test screenings made it clear the musical could put asses in seats, thus the pivot to cinemas.

Paramount’s “Mean Girls,” a musical adaptation and more Gen Z-skewing version of the iconic teen comedy, is coming to the big screen this weekend. It has made $3.25 million at the box office in Thursday previews.
The 2024 film is based on the popular 2018 Broadway musical, which is based on the 2004 comedy, which is based on the 2002 book “Queen Bees and Wannabees.” The new version stars Angourie Rice as Cady Heron, the homeschooled fish out of water originally played by Lindsay Lohan. She joins a new school and befriends The Plastics, the “cool girl” squad played in this reimagining by Renee Rapp, Bebe Wood and Avantika — who take over from Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert and Amanda Seyfriend.
“Mean Girls” is expected to make $30 million over the four-day MLK Day weekend. For a movie originally envisioned to go straight to streaming,...

Get ready for another “full circle film”, an IP (intellectual property) that began in one medium, was adapted to another, and then returns to that original medium. One of the more recent Broadway trends, along with the “jukebox musical”, has been taking an often beloved feature film and adapting it into a big splashy stage musical. And when they’re big hits, then bring the musical take to the big screen. Back in 2005, The Producers did the big “whip-around” when the musical based on the 1967 Oscar-winning classic played (briefly) at the multiplex. A couple of years later saw the tune-filled return of Hairspray. Just a few weeks ago (it’s still playing in many markets) The Color Purple did much the same,...

We don’t really need a reboot of Mean Girls, or indeed a film adaptation of the stage musical. But there you go, we are where we are. And that’s 2024, 20 years after the release of the seminal high school movie starring Lindsay Lohan which was based on the non-fiction book Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman. Fashions have changed, social media is now ubiquitous, but teenage girls are still cliquey and judgey so the story hasn’t required a massive update. Perhaps that’s to its detriment, because this movie, directed by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr., is really an example of pop culture eating itself. The musical came because people liked the film. Now the new film exists, presumably for people who like the musical, while not having the unique selling point of it being on the stage. But if you can get over the audacity...

Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com audio film review for “Mean Girls,” a movie adaptation of the Broadway musical, which in turn was born from the 2004 comedy … with Tina Fey adapting the screenplay and featuring Jenna Fischer and Jon Hamm. In theaters January 12th.

Yes, the mean gals and school life of North Shore High are on display musically, and updated from its 2004 roots to present time, as transfer student Cady (Angourie Rice) is trying to fit in, with help from outcasts Janis (Alee Cra-val-ho) and Damian (Ja-quel Spivey). When Cady is invited to the alpha girls lunch table, with mean leader Regina (Renee Rapp), she is about to begin a journey that makes her an insider to all the nasty tactics that the gang uses to rule their high school domain. Which attitude will Cady adopt?

Tina Fey stopped by The Tonight Show to promote the Mean Girls musical movie and host Jimmy Fallon challenged her to a new game called “Friendzee.” The game basically involves trying to guess the name of a mutual pal by asking random and “not helpful” questions from a pile of cards. Funny and a chance to humble brag about the famous people they both know.
The first friend was Rachel Dratch, who Fey had to guess with Fallon describing what sort of breakfast cereal she would be (Fruity Pebbles or...

Exhibitors are lighting candles and saying prayers that Paramount’s feature musical redux Mean Girls carries them big-time throughout January after a dry spell caused by the double strikes. Ya see, for the next three weeks following Mean Girls, there isn’t a major studio wide release until Apple Original Films’ Argylle arrives on February 2 via Universal.
On tracking, Mean Girls is excellent with women, and poised to clear $30 million over the four-day MLK weekend at 3,782 theaters. Meanwhile, Amazon MGM Studios’ R-rated Jason Statham action title The Beekeeper, solid with men and multicultural audiences, is looking at $16M Friday-Monday.
‘The Beekeeper’
Comscore reported that the first week of 2024 box office at $172.6M was lagging 8% behind the same frame in 2023. However, last year’s MLK weekend will be hard to beat: It was led by the fifth frame of 20th Century Studios’ Avatar: The Way of Water with $39.8M, and the...
