Barry Levinson To Direct Apollo 11 Limited Series From Kevin Costner, Stephen Kronish & Mike Medavoy
Exclusive: Barry Levinson is attached to direct a limited TV series that will be exec produced by Kevin Costner, and comes from 24’s Stephen Kronish and Zodiac producer Mike Medavoy.
The Oscar-winning director behind Rain Man, Good Morning, Vietnam and Diner is set to helm One Giant Leap, a series that will tell the story of the moon landing.
The project is being written and showrun by Kronish, who was a producer and writer on 24 between seasons three and seven, and was also an exec producer of The Kennedys minseries.
It will look at one of the most historic events in U.S. history from a slightly different angle, stressing the personality conflicts within the flight team that almost doomed the mission before it left the launch pad – and how a NASA psychiatrist’s predictions of disaster for astronaut Buzz Aldrin were ignored by her superiors. The Gurin Company, run by Phil Gurin, whose credits include exec producing ABC’s Shark Tank, has teamed with Jeremy Fox’s format firm Action Time to bring back British entertainment format Game for a Laugh.
This comes after Fox relaunched Action Time, the formats firm that he ran after creating The Krypton Factor. Fox left Drg, the international distributor that he founded, in September 2018.
The Game for a Laugh reboot is the first Action Time project to emerge since he relaunched the company that he first started 40 years ago.
The show ran between 1981 and 1985 on the UK’s ITV and revolved around a variety of practical jokes, pranks and studio games such as the Dunk Tank and Pie Chair.

Did Brian Malarkey truly live up to his name last week on the All-Star season of “Top Chef”? First, for a vegetarian challenge he decided to streamline his usual overloaded creation by basically serving mozzarella and tomatoes with a vinaigrette. All I know is, if I can make a dish served on the show, it is no winner. Disappointed head judge Tom Colicchio thought the dish was too simple, adding that, “It’s ubiquitous. We’ve seen it.” Even though Brian’s offering was the red team’s first course, it was already clear he was in danger of being on the bottom three.
But his own dish might have been the least of his sins Brian later seemed to throw a teammate under the bus. Because it was a team challenge, many of the chefs helped their cohorts when it came to plating their six-course menu. That was the...

It’s Fritz Lang versus CinemaScope, for the first and last time. The format suited to snakes and funerals effectively hamstrings the great filmmaker’s expressive camera direction, yet the movie is one of the best of MGM’s last-gasp ’50s costume dramas. Corrupt smuggler Stewart Granger is redeemed by the faith of a young boy who believes in him; in this story the words “He’s my friend” take on a big significance. Come see director Lang struggle to adapt the wide-wide screen to accommodate his brand of real cinema.

Drama “commissioning club” Atrium TV has launched a second slate of projects with new dramas from Michael Douglas, Ava DuVernay, David Simon and the producers of Sherlock.
Atrium is the brainchild of former Sony Chairman Howard Stringer, Drg CEO Jeremy Fox and Mtg Evp/Head of Programming and Content Development Jakob Mejlhede. Based in London and Los Angeles, the team develops projects then shares them with club members who decide if they want to invest. If they buy into a project, members can license the series for their territory and can exploit it in their local market. Sales in the rest of the world are handled by Drg. Members, including Televisa, Viaplay, BT TV, and Deutsche Telekom, gathered in L.A. on Sunday at the La Screenings to get a first look at the high-profile new slate.

Before confronting Greg Garcia's ("My Name is Earl") new Fox family sitcom, "Raising Hope," -- a show that most critics, so far, have been fairly divided on -- I think it's illustrative here to offer some background on my own perspective, so perhaps you'll better understand why I liked the pilot episode as much as I did. Here's a picture, the only one I seem to have of my teenage years (the rest were lost after my father failed to pay the monthly fees on a storage unit, but he had a fairly good excuse: He was fucking dead).
That's me (in the yellow, pre-braces, big fucking glasses) at around the age of 17; my father (with the Bluto T-shirt, probably high at the time); my younger sister (not too long before she became pregnant); Jeremy Fox (who used to write here, and this may have been after his father...
