There's a great-looking new anthology series coming to AMC from producer Ridley Scott called The Terror. We have the first trailer for you to watch today and it looks awesomely impressive. The teaser definitely got me excited to watch this thing! It looks like it's going to be a high-quality series that audiences will get sucked into.
Inspired by a true story, The Terror centers on the Royal Navy’s perilous voyage into unchartered territory as the crew attempts to discover the Northwest Passage. Faced with treacherous conditions, limited resources, dwindling hope and fear of the unknown, the crew is pushed to the brink of extinction. Frozen, isolated and stuck at the end of the earth, The Terror highlights all that can go wrong when a group of men, desperate to survive, struggle not only with the elements, but with each other.

AMC is in the process of developing a really cool new series called The Terror, and they've just cast Mad Men's Jared Harris in the lead role.
The series will be an adaptation of a novel by Dan Simmons, the story of which is set in 1847. It follows the real life story of a Naval expedition searching for the Northwest Passage and in the process disappears. The series will take a fictional spin on the events that took place as the crews are attacked by a mysterious predator that stalks the ships.
Harris will play a character named Francis Crozier, "Captain of the Hms Terror and second in command of the expedition. He is a brilliant sailor and captain, but an Irishman who has reached his glass ceiling in the British Royal Navy and has become disillusioned with its pomp and politics."
Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV,...

Author Dan Simmons knows how to spark scares and intrigue with his writing. His 1991 novel Summer of Night is essential reading for those who love a good coming-of-age horror tale, and his historical fiction novel The Terror offers an eerie experience of its own. AMC will bring the latter to the screen with their upcoming anthology series, which has just cast Jared Harris in the lead role of Captain Francis Crozier:
Press Release: New York, NY, September 29, 2016 – AMC announced today that Jared Harris (Mad Men, The Crown) has been cast as the lead actor in the networks’ anthology drama series, The Terror, an adaption of the bestselling novel by Dan Simmons. David Kajganich (True Story, A Bigger Splash) and Soo Hugh (The Whispers, The Killing) are serving as executive producers, writers and co-showrunners with Scott Free, Emjag Productions and Entertainment 360 producing the series in association with AMC Studios. AMC is moving forward with the development of a new anthology series called The Terror, and this sounds like it’s going to be an awesome show! The series is based on a novel written by Dan Simmons, and the script will be written by David Kajganich (True Story, A Bigger Splash).
According to Variety, the series is set in 1847, and it centers on a “Royal Naval expedition crew searching for the Northwest Passage.” In the process, they are attacked by “a mysterious predator that stalks the ships and their crew in a suspenseful and desperate game of survival.”
Ridley Scott and his Scott Free Productions are producing the series, which has received an order of 10 hourlong episodes from AMC. As of right now, they are looking at premiering The Terror in 2017, and they’ve hired Kajganich to be a co-showrunner on the series with Soo Hugh (The Killing). Joel Stillerman,...

You might say that naming a naval ship the ‘Hms Terror’ is, in some ways, a bad idea – particularly when that ship is to be sent off into the Arctic wilderness in search of the Northwest Passage. But, name it they did, and a century and a half later, this forms the basis of a novel of historical fiction, by Dan Simmons, named The Terror. It is this novel that is now being adapted into an anthology series for AMC, to be executive produced by Ridley Scott.
The Terror was published in 2007, and presents a fictionalised account of the quest of Sir John Franklin, as he led an expedition into the Arctic Circle – the personnel of which were aboard the Hms Erebus and the Hms Terror. Both ships were trapped in ice near King William Island for more than a year, and the harsh environment – coupled with increasing disease and...

Bangarra founder and frontman Stephen Page has just returned from Melbourne, where he screened Spear, his first feature, at Acmi.
The dance film, which premiered at Toronto last September, sprang from an early Bangarra piece of the same name.
"When I created Spear in 2000, we had Archie Roach singing his poetic, streetwise songs onstage. Hunter [Page-Lochard, the director's son and star of both Spear and the upcoming Cleverman] was a six year-old onstage. It was one of Wayne Blair's first acting jobs".
So many years later, Spear is now Page's first feature, though the director is no stranger to filmmaking..
"I did a dance film called Colours in 1990 that I choreographed with Victoria Taylor for the Sydney Dance Company. It was all based on colours, so each colour had a short dance story and then it was all patched together. I think Screen Australia was involved. I only got reminded about it four months ago, I forgot I actually did it".

Reese Witherspoon and Jean-Marc Vallée making Wild
Jean-Marc Vallée’s eighth feature film Wild is just about to begin its theatrical release in North America. The film stars Reese Witherspoon, who plays Cheryl Strayed as she goes on an incredible, though unprepared, hike across the Pacific Crest Trail to morn the death of her mother. This new release provides a great opportunity to reflect on the director’s career and survey the literature surrounding him.
Even though I’m sympathetic to Barry Hertz’s article in Maclean’s, "Jean-Marc Vallée: Film’s redemption man" (Sept. 15, 2014), for acknowledging the director’s talent and growing international reputation, it still doesn’t do Vallée justice as it concludes with vague generalizations that, instead of enlightening, overlook his actual merits. Hertz overemphasizes Vallée’s work with actors and argues that he ‘lacks’ a unique style of directing, criticizes him for his modesty, and...

Doctor Who may be a British series, but its audience is increasingly an international one. With its American fanbase as big as it’s ever been, it’s time the Doctor investigated some of the many mysteries the Western Hemisphere has to offer. While the excellent two-parter “The Impossible Astronaut”/”Day of the Moon” is distinctly American in its setting, “The Angels Take Manhattan” is decidedly less successful and the less said about “Daleks in Mahattan”/“The Evolution of the Daleks”, the better. Here are seven American settings or mysteries just waiting to get the Doctor Who treatment.

Jim Beaver guest-stars on "Revolution" Wednesday (Oct. 23) in a role that seems tailor-made for him: commander of the Texas Rangers and interior minister of the Texas government.
Given his history with "Revolution" creator Eric Kripke, the part may very well have been created with Beaver in mind. The two worked together for years on "Supernatural," and Beaver says he has "enormous fondness" for Kripke.
"If he wants to shoot the telephone book, I'm going to be there and just ask him which letter he wants me to start with," Beaver tells Zap2it. "We've remained in touch sporadically even after he left day-to-day operations of 'Supernatural,' so I wasn't entirely surprised to hear from him when this part came up. But I've got a handful of producers in my past that all they've got to do is call and I'm ready to go to work for them, and...

Slowly but surely, Revolution creator Eric Kripke is flooding his series with his favorite Supernatural veterans. We’ve seen Mark Pellegrino, Todd Stashwick, and Colin Ford all make appearances on the NBC drama and it was only a matter of time before Jim Beaver, known as the grumpy yet beloved Bobby Singer on Supernatural, graced the show with his presence. Here’s the thing though: I think Beaver is better than this. I’ve seen him do some great work and I’m not afraid to say he’s above what Revolution has become. I’m sure he only took the gig because Kripke is attached to it.

Deadline is reporting that AMC, alongside Ridley Scott's Scott Free production banner, will take on The Terror, an adaptation of award winning horror/sci-fi/fantasy author Dan Simmons' fictional account of just what happened to the non-fictional Captain Sir John Franklin and his lost expedition to the uncharted portions of the Arctic Ocean's Northwest Passage in 1845.
His fourth expedition to the arctic, renowned officer and explorer (and governor of Tasmania from 1836-43) Franklin, his team and their two ships, the Hms Erebus and the Hms Terror (of where the novel partly takes its title) were icebound and suffered from pneumonia and starvation, with some eventually resorting to cannibalism. Following the third presidential debate Monday night (Oct. 22), conservative pundit Ann Coulter tweeted, "I highly approve of Romney's decision to be kind and gentle to the retard," in reference to Mitt Romney's perceived debate style versus President Obama.
There were many responses, from both sides of the political spectrum, dressing down Coulter, including conservative pundit Michelle Malkin, who calls it "stupid" and "shallow" and says that Coulter may be a conservative, but she does not speak for "all of us."
But the most eloquent response has been written by Special Olympics Global Messenger John Franklin Stephens, a 30-year-old man with Down Syndrome, in an open letter on the Special Olympics blog. Some excerpts:
I thought first of asking whether you meant to describe the President as someone who was bullied as a child by people like you, but rose above it to find a way to succeed in life...

Stephens wrote in an open letter to Coulter: "After I saw your tweet, I realized you just wanted to belittle the President by linking him to people like me. "You assumed that people (more)...

In an age when partisanship is starker than ever, poor Ann Coulter has to act more and more outrageous just to get people to pay attention to her. This may explain why the outrage-generating machine sent the following tweet after Monday’s presidential debate:
I highly approve of Romney's decision to be kind and gentle to the retard.— Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) October 23, 2012
Oh, and then there was this one:
Obama: “Stage 3 Romneysia” – because cancer references are Hilarious. If he's “the smartest guy in the room” it must be one retarded room.— Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) October 23, 2012
Eeeesh. While we’d love...

Ah, cult leaders. So evil. So persuasive. Such great fodder for movie and TV characters! Cult leaders (and the hapless souls who follow them) have proven to be endlessly fascinating -- both on-screen and in real life. Remember when the Waco siege in the early '90s made David Koresh a notorious household name? People just couldn't learn enough about this nerdy dude who convinced dozens of devout followers that he was a true prophet.
It's easy to wonder how one person (or, in some cases a small group) can talk others into a blind adoration. That's probably why cults are such popular subject matter for the big and small screen alike. Last year, we saw a psycho hippie cult leader creep out Elizabeth Olsen in Marcy Martha May Marlene. Another cult-focused flick, Sound of My Voice, has been generating buzz since it opened at Sundance. The movie, which is opening in limited release now,...

“Yorkshire Noir. Dickens on bad acid.” -- Tony Grisoni on Red Riding. Tony Grisoni did it. Wrote the whole lot. All 278 minutes of the Red Riding Trilogy, which was adapted from David Peace’s noir epics. Dread Central recently sat down with him to get the scoop on the details, the process, Poe, and even Terry Gilliam.
What we present now are only the facts — under the grim light of day. They say it’s a nightmare town out there, filled with corruption and woe. I’d say beware of wolves and stick to the path.
Heather Buckley: What is the origin of the title Red Riding?
Tony Grisoni: For administrative purposes, the English county of Yorkshire is divided into three; one of these is known as West Riding. So the title Red Riding plays off these historic boundaries. But, of course, there’s also the allusion to the...
