Stephen King made it very well known that he wasn’t a fan of Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 adaptation of his book The Shining, so seventeen years later he took the chance to bring the story to the screen himself. He wrote the script for a three-part mini-series that was directed by Mick Garris and aired on ABC back in 1997 – and tomorrow, March 12th, Scream Factory is giving the mini-series version of The Shining a Blu-ray release! Copies are available for purchase at This Link.
The mini-series version of The Shining has the following synopsis: Jack Torrance and his family move into the sprawling, vacant Overlook Hotel to get away from it all. Away from the alcoholism that derails Jack’s writing career. Away from the violent outbursts that mar Jack’s past. But Jack’s young son Danny knows better. He possesses a psychic gift called the shining — a gift...

Back in 1990, legendary scream queen Linnea Quigley – whose many horror movie credits include The Return of the Living Dead, Night of the Demons, Witchtrap, Graduation Day, Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama, Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers, Nightmare Sisters, A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, and Silent Night, Deadly Night – made her own hour-long, horror-themed workout video. A release that was appropriately called Linnea Quigley’s Horror Workout… and which has now been given a special edition Blu-ray release! Copies can be purchased at This Link.
Directed by Kenneth J. Hall, Linnea Quigley’s Horror Workout has the following synopsis: After a nice shower, Linnea does some warm-up stretches and then goes for a run. She encounters some flabby zombies who follow her back to the house, where she leads them in some poolside aerobic routines. Later she unwinds by inviting some girlfriends over for a slumber party and some exercise.

Mick Garris isn't just a prolific horror filmmaker who's created multiple horror classics and worked with the very best in the industry. He's also a champion of the genre and other filmmakers, and it's what's made him a true master of horror! That's why I'm very excited for the August 13th release of the official biography of Mick Garris from Atb Publishing, appropriately titled "Master of Horror." Here are the release details and a look at the official cover art:
What makes a true Master of Horror?
If you’re a horror fan, you may know Mick Garris as the creator of the television series, Masters of Horror, and the anthology film, Nightmare Cinema, as well as the director of multiple television adaptations of Stephen King novels like The Stand and The Shining. But although you may know his work, you may not know much about the man that so...

If ever there was an advocate, or, better still, an ambassador for horror cinema worldwide, it would have to be Mick Garris. As Garris quite rightly points out over the course of the following interview, the majority of his colleagues, active within the genre, have, for the most part, been motivated by a sincere appreciation for the narrative opportunities horror naturally encapsulates, but it is hard to find a director as involved as he has been, and continues to be, in the promotion of new talents, genuine themes, and potential the often belittled genre has to offer in interpreting and decoding the times in which we live. Since the seventies, the soft-spoken director of such films as Sleepwalkers (1992) and Quicksilver Highway (1997) has, through his television talk shows, interviews, and more recently his podcast, given a voice to a new way of interpreting horror, and if it is now true that...

Angelina Jolie was forced to miss the premiere of her latest film, Unbroken, but she had four stellar stand-ins on the red carpet. Husband Brad Pitt and kids Maddox, 13, Pax, 11, and Shiloh, 8 - all three of whom were coordinated in dark suit-and-tie ensembles - turned out Monday night at the Los Angeles premiere of the WWII drama directed by Jolie. Pitt's parents, Bill and Jane Pitt, also attended in support of their newly official daughter-in-law. "She's doing great," Pitt, who turns 51 on Thursday, said of his wife, who revealed last Friday that she has the chicken pox. But things are...

The enigma of spontaneous human combustion (Shc) is considered the most bizarre and frightening of all the phenomena in the world of the unexplained and the unknown. Some believe that stories of Shc are only urban legends, eerie tales of people bursting into flames that never really happened to real people. But this is not the case. Urban legends happen to a friend of a friend, but are really untraceable back to any true original narrator of the event. In the case of spontaneous human combustion, one is left with the charred remains and ashes of individuals who were once fully living, breathing, feeling human beings. [Unexplainedstuff.com]

It's a shame The Psycho Legacy didn't come out a couple years ago. True, this year marks the 50th anniversary of Hitchcock's classic, so the timing is perfect. But released on the heels of Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy, one can't help but compare the two, and the Psycho documentary comes up lacking.
That should not be the case. After all, Psycho has deeper roots, interwoven into generations of moviegoers since the 60's. One can argue that Freddy might not have appeared on the big screen had Norman Bates not paved the way. But the filmmakers stumble at the start, spending less time discussing the...
