“Bad ass bitch” are the first words used to describe June Carter Cash in the official trailer for June, the documentary premiering via Paramount+ on Jan. 16. Kacey Musgraves assigns the label to her — and the remainder of the trailer ticks off all of the reasons why it’s a more than accurate descriptor.
In addition to Musgraves, the film features appearances and insight from Reese Witherspoon, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Larry Gatlin, Robert Duvall, Ronnie Dunn, and more. Having walked in the light of Carter Cash’s legacy and influence,...

After a string of performers pulled out of this weekend’s planned NRA “Grand Ol’ Night of Freedom” concert in Houston, the musical event apparently has been canceled.
The concert was to have taken place during the organization’s annual conference. “American Pie” singer Don McLean, Larry Gatlin, Larry Stewart, Lee Greenwood, T. Graham Brown and Danielle Peck all canceled in the past few days, and this morning the only remaining act, country singer Jacob Bryant, posted on Twitter, “The show has been cancelled since yesterday.”

“Stranger Things” Season 4 Volume 1 will now include a warning card following the massacre that took place at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, where 19 children and two teachers were killed. Netflix’s acclaimed sci-fi show takes on a darker tone this season, with the first eight minutes of the premiere episode depicting graphic images of dead children.
The warning will read, “We filmed this season of Stranger Things a year ago. But given the recent tragic shooting at a school in Texas, viewers may find the opening scene of episode 1 distressing. We are deeply saddened by this unspeakable violence, and our hearts go out to every family mourning a loved one.”

A country music concert slated for this weekend’s NRA Convention in Houston just lost another performer. Larry Gatlin, a member of the country trio the Gatlin Brothers, has dropped out of the lineup. The 74-year-old vocalist and songwriter behind Gatlin Brothers hits like “All the Gold in California” and “Houston (Means I’m One Day Closer to You)” says in a statement that he “cannot, in good conscience, perform at the NRA convention in Houston” following Tuesday’s massacre at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, that left 19 students and two teachers dead.

Born May 3rd, 1919, in Manhattan, Seeger’s songwriting and political activism would for decades go hand-in-hand, leading to the folk revival of the late Fifties and early Sixties, which were bolstered by such Seeger compositions as “Where Have All the Flowers Gone,” “Turn!, Turn!, Turn!” and the civil-rights anthem “We Shall Overcome.”

Welcome to the February 4, 2015 edition of Outrage Watch, HitFix's daily rundown of everything folks are peeved about in entertainment. Today's top story? "Fox and Friends" co-host Steve Doocy has some concerns about Disney's "Frozen." Look out, men: the Mouse House is out to destroy your confidence. "Are movies like the Disney smash hit about an ice queen and her sister empowering girls by turning our men into fools and villains?" Doocy asked on the Fox News morning program. Oh, boy. "It would be nice for Hollywood to have more male figures in those kinds of movies." Added guest Penny Young Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America (!): "Hollywood in general has often sent the message that men are superfluous, that they're stupid, that they're in the way, and if they contribute anything to family it's a paycheck." Head just exploded. [Mediaite] Want more? There's plenty of indignation to go around.

Nashville, Tenn. -- A yearlong celebration of Johnny Cash's legacy will come to an end this week with the issue of a new postal stamp and free public concert.
The new Johnny Cash Forever stamp goes on sale Wednesday and to celebrate Cash's son, John Carter Cash, and several friends and family members will gather at Ryman Auditorium. The stamp is based around a promotional shot for the 1963 album "Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash." To Cash it looks like a 45 or 78 Rpm record cover and is unlike the usual offerings – matching his father's legacy.
"It just truly embodies my father's spirit, who he was," Cash said. "It's different. That's one thing: It stands out to me as being unique. It's very commanding when you see the stamp."

As of yesterday, conservatives were on attack about Michelle Obama's invitation of the svelte-and-sexual rapper Common to a poetry reading at the White House. Ostensibly bored with its own content and mimetic design, Huffington Post's conservative counterpart, The Daily Caller, went looking for a most-readily decontextualized piece of Common's backstory. In a segment recorded for Def Poetry, he defends Kobe and the King of Pop and suggests burning a Bush of the presidential variety. The piece was such political fodder that even Sarah Palin managed to fire off 25 thoughtful characters about the situation, via Twitter: "Oh lovely, White House..." Fox News, of course, diligently covered the story; the White House retrenched, sort of.
It's easy to launch racism charges at the right's criticism of Common, but that's problematic for two reasons: First, we're betting black country star Darius Rucker wouldn't get the same treatment from Palin and her pals; after all,...
