An official YouTube channel dedicated to the classic sitcom The Munsters and the franchise it spawned was launched three years ago, and as the years have gone by a whole lot of clips from the 1964 – 1966 show have been added to that channel. The Munsters are, by design, a comedic reinvention of the classic monsters – Herman is Frankenstein’s monster, Lily is a vampire, Grandpa is Count Dracula, and Eddie is a werewolf – but other interpretations of iconic creatures occasionally made appearances.
Before TV’s first family of fright returns in Rob Zombie’s The Munsters, let’s look back at six classic monsters that have appeared in The Munsters Universe up to this point.
Creature from the Black Lagoon
Despite only appearing on screen for about a minute and a half, Uncle Gilbert is perhaps the most memorable member of the Munsters’ extended family. The reason is simple: he’s the Gill-man from the Creature from the Black Lagoon franchise.
In “Love Comes to Mockingbird Heights”, Uncle Gilbert sends the family 180,000 worth of gold doubloons from the old country for safekeeping until he arrives to visit. This inciting incident sets the plot in motion,...

FX is stepping into the standup comedy ring, with comedy specials from Kate Berlant and Byron Bowers to premiere exclusively on Hulu on Sept. 15, the network announced.

Page Hurwitz had a plan to tell the story of LGBTQ+ comedians with the help of one big historic show — and then the pandemic hit.
But as the global shuttering put a pause on her original plans, it opened the door for an invitation to the Netflix Is a Joke festival, where the director, writer, producer and comedian’s planned show — a featured part of Stand Out: The Documentary, which will debut on Netflix later this year — was able to be part of the streamer’s first major live comedy festival.

Billy Eichner and Mae Martin have called out Netflix’s support of Dave Chappelle’s jokes about queer and trans people — in a comedy special released by Netflix itself.
Both comedians appear in “Stand Out: An LGBTQ Celebration,” which debuted on June 9 after being taped at Netflix Is a Joke Fest in May. The event, hosted by Eichner, was the largest-ever gathering of LGBTQ+ comics in one stand-up special, according to Netflix.
“We all know how backwards and dangerous the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ laws are,” Eichner says in the special. “Queer people, and especially trans people, are under legislative attack in this country. Trans people are being demeaned. They’re trying to dehumanize trans people. They’re trying to erase trans people. And I’m not even talking about Florida. Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio have created the extreme fan-boy documentary of counterculture comedian George Carlin’s life, times and personal struggles. It’s jam-packed with juicy bits, particularly highlights of Carlin’s memorable routines like his timeless riff on environmental doomsayers: for decades, he joked that “the planet is fine,” people not so much (“the planet will shake us off like a bad case of fleas”). Hilarious, driven, able to change with the times, obscene, the wiry Irish Catholic New Yorker appeared 130 times on Johnny Carson over a fifty year career, and inspired comedians from Chris Rock to Stephen Colbert – and, of course, Apatow.
Born in Manhattan in 1937 and dead from long-term cardiac problems in Hollywood in 2008, Carlin gets the behind-the-music treatment. His heavy-handed father was a loquacious drunk. The W.C. "He's The Beatles of comedy." HBO has revealed the first official trailer for George Carlin's American Dream, a two-part documentary coming to HBO Max later this month. Featuring interviews with Carlin's family and friends, material from his stand-up specials and footage from his own personal archive. George Carlin's American Dream, directed by Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio, chronicles the life and work of the legendary comedian who passed away in 2008. "He dared to wake us up." There's also interviews with Carlin & Brenda's daughter, Kelly Carlin, offerring unique insight into her family’s story and her parents enduring love and partnership. Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Patton Oswalt, Stephen Colbert, Bill Burr, Bette Midler, W. Kamau Bell, Sam Jay, Judy Gold and Jon Stewart are among those interviewed for the doc. I've been waiting for someone to make a "definitive" doc about Carlin, and in the hands of these two filmmakers it's going to be gold.

Few names in comedy history loom larger than George Carlin. The legendary comedian was fearless in his takedowns of social norms, constantly pointing his razor-sharp wit toward our worst societal ills. From his early days as a free speech advocate to his multitude of Johnny Carson appearances to his politically charged specials at the end of his life, Carlin never stopped speaking out for what he believed in.
His approach to comedy inspired legions of the medium’s top artists, and many of them paid tribute to him in “George Carlin’s American Dream,” the new documentary on his life from director Judd Apatow. The special provides a deeper look into Carlin’s personal life than ever seen before, pairing his early family life with his iconic performances to paint a detailed picture of the comedy icon. It also digs into the drug problem that plagued Carlin for much of his adult life.

Peacock has released the first trailer for Season 2 of its original comedy series “Girls5eva,” which follows a ’90s girl group of the same name as they attempt to rise to pop star relevance once again.
The trailer picks up with the characters played by Sara Bareilles, Busy Phillips, Paula Pell and Renée Elise Goldsberry united behind a piano, ready to write an album that represents their own creative vision for the first time. The creative opportunity quickly shows that it has some strings attached, with a six-week deadline fast approaching.
