Wide Management has picked up international sales on Jean Renoir’s 1939 picture The Bitch (La Chienne), which is screening in Cannes Classics this year.
The tale of a humble clerk who falls victim to a prostitute and her violent, scheming pimp, was Renoir’s second sound film.
It recently restored by Les Films du Jeudi - the historic production company of Renoir’s late producer Pierre Braunbreger - and the Cinémathèque Francaise with the support of France’s National Cinema Centre and the DGA and WGA-backed Franco-American Cultural Fund.

Has Green Acres had a lasting cultural impact? Do the wacky antics of Lisa and Oliver Wendell Douglas (plus a pig that could read) still reverberate through our modern society? The answer: Not really, no. Sorry, Green Acres fans, but once you get past the theme song and its uncanny ability to remain stuck in your head for weeks at a time, there’s little staying power in CBS’s farm-based sitcom. Its only tie to contemporary society would be the official Green Acres Slot Machine, where if you win the Hot Cake Bonus, a tiny digital Eva Gabor dishes out plates of hot cakes to a tiny digital Green Acres cast, and the gambler must trade plates back and forth to collect the most cakes and the most money. Which sounds really goddamn confusing for a slot machine. But here’s another question: has Green Acres spent enough time out of the public eye to be...

It’s been a long enough time since Memphis Beat was canceled; it’s time for Jason Lee to move on and find a new series to be a part of. Unfortunately, it’s one of those crime dramas that gives its lead a strange talent that they will inevitably use to solve crimes in some bizarre, contrived way. Pardon my negativity, but this is just not the type of show I would be interested in, but you might so I will tell you about it in the hopes it catches your interest. Lee has been cast in Second Sight, a crime pilot for CBS.
In Second Sight, Lee plays a detective in the New Orleans Police Department with a secret so terrifying if anyone in the police found out about it they would kick his ass to the curb. He has an ocular disorder that causes him to have...

CBS is developing an American version of the BBC crime drama "Second Sight," TV Line reports. Jason Lee is attached to play the lead. The original series premiered in 2000 and ran for eight episodes. It starred Clive Owen as Detective Chief Inspector Ross Tanner, a maverick cop who undergoes an experimental treatment to hide the fact that he's going blind. The setting of the CBS version will be relocated from London to New Orleans. Michael Cuesta will direct the pilot with a script co-written by Gerald Cuesta. The former Cuesta will also executive produce alongside Phil Goldfine, Carol Mendelsohn, Paula Milne, Nick Reed and Julie Weitz. (Photo Credit: Daniel Tann)...

Onetime Memphis Beat lawman Jason Lee has a new beat, as a police detective on CBS’ Second Sight pilot.
An adaptation of the British crime drama fronted by Clive Owen, Second Sight stars Lee as Tanner, the lead detective with the New Orleans Police Department. Tanner, though, is concealing a troublesome secret: He has an ocular disorder that causes him to have horrifying, visually stimulating anxiety dreams and hallucinations.
Assured by his doctor that he will not go blind, Tanner is encouraged to think of the side effects as a “gift,” signposts from his subconscious that – hey! — help him solve crimes.

CBS has added one more pilot to its drama roster, greenlighting Second Sight, from Michael Cuesta, director/executive producer of the Emmy-winning Homeland and CSI executive producer/showrunner Carol Mendelsohn. He discovers that catching the killer depends as much on insight as eyesight. (watch the trailer for the original series below.) Cuesta wrote the adaptation with his brother Gerald Cuesta. The two previously teamed for another CBS drama project, the cult 2007 zombie pilot Babylon Fields, which Gerald co-wrote and Michael directed. Michael Cuesta is set to direct Second Sight, which he is executive producing with Mendelsohn, her executive Julie Weitz, Paula Milne, who created the original series, and Nick Reed. Steven Seagal's A&E reality show is getting a sequel.
The network has renewed "Steven Seagal: Lawman" for a second season. A&E is picking up 16 episodes of the docudrama from ITV Studios and Steamroller Prods., an increase from the first season's 13.
Seagal and his Sheriffs Department colleagues again will protect the people of New Orleans, but this time the production filmed during Mardi Gras.

Season 1 of "Lawman" was a success for the network, averaging 2.1 million viewers and 1.3 million adults 18-49, making it A&E's best freshman performance by an original series in total viewers.

A show following Steven Seagal's exploits as a sheriff's deputy in Louisiana set a record for a series launch on A&E Wednesday.
"Steven Seagal Lawman" debuted to 3.5 million viewers Wednesday night, breaking A&E's record for the premiere of an original series -- which had stood for all of two days. The season premiere of "Hoarders" on Monday drew 3.2 million people.
"Lawman" also drew 2 million people in the adults 18-49 demographic, again breaking a mark set by "Hoarders" (1.9 million) on Monday.
"Steven Seagal Lawman" follows the martial artist and action-movie star on his patrols as a deputy for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana (where he's moonlighted for the past 20 years). Critics have highlighted its unintentional comedy, but viewers didn't seem to mind (or maybe were hoping for it). Wednesday night's second half-hour episode drew 3.6 million viewers, up from 3.4 million for the first episode.

It took a few days to get to the bottom of this... On Tuesday, various outlets were directing their attention to the website of production outfit Freefall Films . On their "upcoming projects" roster, they had the Terror Train remake - which we gave you the exclusive dirt on - listed as going into production next month with director Alex Wright attached. It's a load of bunk. I reached out to Freefall on Tuesday morning and did not receive any response to my queries. But after making a few phone calls to those close to Terror Train , I was told there is no script ready, furthermore, no director involved. There is a bit of truth to the info on Freefall's site - Emmet/Furla Films is producing. And, as we stated in our previous report, Phillip Goldfine of...

When is a Terror Train remake NOT a Terror Train remake? When it's a movie called Train, which kinda began as a Terror Train remake, but definitely isn't anymore. And we know this for sure because someone out there is very interested in making an actual Terror Train remake.
Will all this going on, you might actually be duped into believing that Roger Spottiswoode's Terror Train somehow demands a remake -- when in fact it's just another slasher flick that Jamie Lee Curtis did right after Halloween because that's all she was being offered at the time. Aside from the fact that the flick features unlikely co-stars like Hart Bochner, Ben Johnson and David Copperfield (as "Ken the Magician"), there's not much to distinguish Terror Train from, say, Killer Car, Eerie Elevator, or Satanic Scooter. OK, so I just made those up.

Ryan Rotten over at ShockTillYouDrop.com says he heard that producer Phillip Goldfine is ready to develop a remake of Roger Spottiswoode’s 1980 horror flick “Terror Train.”
Goldfine said he wants the remake to stay close to the original. Although no director or writer is on board yet, he would also like to have the film ready for fall 2009.
In the original, a bunch of fraternity guys throw a party on board a chartered train, where a cold-blooded killer joins in on the fun. The film starred Jamie Lee Curtis, David Copperfield and Hart Bochner.
Goldfine’s project is not the only “Terror Train” remake currently in development. Gideon Raff recently wrapped filming for “Train,” which tells a similar story and stars Thora Birch. No release date has been announced yet.
Goldfine’s producing credits include “Lost Boys: The Tribe,” “Half Past Dead” and “The Art of War II: Betrayal.
